Paul Magarelli

I'm not sure where to even begin.. From the beginning I didn't have a great gut feeling about Dr. Magarelli, but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and move forward as a patient of his (we were referred to him by Tricare, so our options were a bit limited). He put on a really good show at our first appointment, telling us that he would most certainly help us have "one healthy baby" - his motto. We felt hopeful that this would be the case. However, our first cycle ended with two abnormal embryos. Dr. Magarelli was less than compassionate when giving me this news, and even went as far as to get upset with me for not saying anything (I was in shock and very upset). Despite this happening, Dr. Magarelli assured us that changing my medication protocol would yield better results, so we moved forward with a second cycle. This cycle resulted in zero embryos. When Dr. Magarelli called to give me this news (I was expecting it by this time and had already started seeking a second opinion), he was joking about how he had a cold and didn't feel good.. as if that was appropriate. When I told him we'd be looking for another doctor his response was, "Sounds great, good luck!", and I never heard from him again.

Run in the other direction. Seriously. He might be the cheapest in town, but you get what you pay for.

My first IVF cycle began with birth control for a few weeks, followed by Lupron, and then Gonal-F & Low Dose HCG. I was on 10 units of Lupron, 10 units of Low Dose HCG, and 75 IU's of Gonal-F morning and night. I was on a very low dose due to the fact that I have no known issues, and responded very well to it. After my retrieval however, it was clear that I had hyper-stimulated even with the low doses. We retrieved 18 eggs, 10 mature, 5 fertilized, and 2 made it to freeze. Those 2 were chromosomally abnormal. For my second cycle I was again on birth control, followed by Lupron, and then Menopur. I was on 10 units of Lupron and started out at one vial of Menopur a day. After a few days and no response, my dose of Menopur was upped to 4 vials per day. I injected the Menopur intramuscularly, for a reason that I still don't know. This cycle we retrieved only 4 eggs, 2 mature, 2 fertilized, and 0 making it to freeze. Dr. Magarelli believes that I ovulated on my own prior to the retrieval.

Initally, Dr. Magarelli charged $7500 for IVF w/ ICSI, plus $400 for anesthesia, plus medications. They provided a $500 military discount, but required the payment in full before the start of the cycle. However, just before our first cycle began, they lowered the price to $4500, plus $400 for anesthesia, plus medications. At this time they didn't offer us the military discount. There was also a $1000 fee for the embryo biopsy each cycle.

Due to my age Dr. Magarelli highly recommended that we only transfer one embryo, however, we never made it to that phase with him.

Dr. Magarelli is a brilliant man, but does struggle to communicate at times. He can be rather Frank, which my husband liked but I struggled with. Overall, I was pleased with the care I was given, and I'm grateful to their team for helping us get pregnant.

Be familiar with the process and advocate for yourself if you don't think something is right. I feel my questioning helped keep things on track...my track.

I don't remember enough to speak knowledgeably. It was almost three years ago.

The cost was half of what we paid for our first round in another state. Even with travel and additional lab work (because we were out of state) we came out ahead.

He told us that he recommended transferring two, but I think he would have transferred one if that was our preference.

Magarelli was the friendliest RE we have come across. My husband and I were treated like dollar signs at every clinic we went to except Magarelli's, who went out of his way to make sure we felt comfortable and treated like we were visiting an old friend. We knew what to expect at every appointment, and he talked to us like we were equals. I love his sense of humor and ability to make us laugh even though we were beyond stressed and anxious. Every time I walked away from the clinic, I felt excited and positive.

Give him a chance. I do not understand why there are any negative reviews of him. We felt so taken care of and respected by him, and he made us feel so at ease. He explained everything to us in detail and why our protocol made sense, but I encourage all new patients of any RE to make sure you ask the right questions from the start (research important questions to ask your RE), and you won't leave with unrealistic expectations.

Magarelli decided a freeze all cycle with PGS would help us after 8 years of TTC with no results. With PGS, we were able to determine that we had a chromosome abnormality when my husbands sperm met my eggs, and this could not be tested by any other kind of genetics blood test. We did BCP, egg retrieval, sent off our embryos to be tested, and then did a transfer one month later, with a positive pregnancy test in the end.

Exactly as described. 8k for IVF, unlimited FET's, egg retrievel, egg transfer, ICSI, PGS testing for 8 embryos. About 4k for medications.

This office is run like a factory, it is not at all individualized. Not everyone has the same cycle or length of cycle, so if you do not fit into their schedule they will cancle your IVF cycle. You never see the doctor and the physicians assistant is incredibly rude and very difficult to deal with, especially when you are on significant hormones and she is nasty to you. I had to have my husband come to all my appointments on our second cycle after I started injections because I was tired of leaving in tears. They convinced me to buy medicine that I didn't need, and so many of my follicles ended up being over mature and useless, I went to 3 different physicians after leaving Dr Magerelli and they all told me that its very probable that they were not monitoring me the way they should have been. The number of eggs retrieved and the number that ended up fertilized was most likely the result of a very poor lab and uneducated staff/techs. The lab and procedure area do not seem like they are at all professional, I remember thinking "this can't be sanitary" quite a few times. I will agree with the last poster, they will sometimes tell you to continue with medicine, you aren't even on, they have no clue what is going on and it's scary to think they might be telling me the wrong thing. I missed a call once and they didn't specify which medication or what dose and didn't return my call till the following day at noon, I spent my evening guessing on what they could have meant, it's an unorganized disaster. Do yourself a favor, take out the loans, wait and save, do whatever you have to do, but avoid this place at all cost. Trust me, you will end up spending WAY more than they say it costs, its definatly a bait and switch. The price is a lie and it's a very dishonest office.

Find a different doctor...one who is honest about their success rates!

It cost nearly 12k, they make you feel like you NEED to do CCS, and if you don't your cycle will probably fail. So the $4500 price is absolutely not true at all, and is VERY deceptive

He is a very direct person. My experience with him, he told me what is involve and possible outcome also assure me that if one procedure does not work for me we will try another approach. And he keeps to that since my treatment with his facility.

Just listen and follow the instructions as they give them to you but make sure to ask questions when you don't understand something, so that there wouldn't be a mixup.

The cost of treatment depends on individual situation because protocol differs, it depend on medications and other things are involve such as acupuncture which is by individual choice. But the main IVF cost by CNY is $4000. Personal my medication, outside monitoring, Acupuncture and traveling expenses everything put together $15000.

Dr. Magarelli deserves 5 stars!! If his staff could come up with a management system that matches his enthusiasm for fertility treatment they would be unstoppable!! Being in the office is amazing, but when you are not face to face they fall short, OFTEN!

Be patient, pun intended!

I am too early in IVF, but he believes it’s relatively standard for all woman with a few slight tweaks.

$11000 for IVF WITH ICSI AND CCS TESTING AND 2 transfers

He will allow you to decide, not over 2 and recommends CCS testing.

He would be positive almost to a fault. He comes across as a salesman in some ways, but I do believe he does care. He will breeze over things that can be very important, but spend a lot of time on things that don't apply to the situation at hand. He will take the time to answer questions if asked.

Make a list of detailed questions if you want the details.

I was put on high doses of hormones due to DOR, but I didn't feel like I understood my protocol and it was not explained to me well.

$6400.00 for IVF and $4000.00 for medication.

He is a very straight forward doctor and some might interpret him as rude but he's just honest. He told me my chances of conceiving at the beginning of the process and didn't sugar coat anything. He did not do any of my monitoring scans except the last one but I felt like I could talk to him if needed, as he was always in the office. He did my egg retrieval but the other doctor he works with did my transfer, though he was in the room. I think he's a great doctor who has a lot of knowledge and experience to offer.

Have tough skin

The cycle itself was $5900 I believe and medications were about another $3000

We did not have our embryos genetically tested. Because of that he agreed to let us transfer two.

A lot of people say that he pushes IVF and most of the time there is something "wrong" with the husband's sperm. I didn't feel like he pushed anything. But at the same time, I did feel like IVF was the area he was most knowledgeable in. He won't talk money with you, if you have questions about finances or how to pay he will direct you to his other staff. Mostly my experience has been pleasant.

His bedside manner isn't the greatest. He does have a "know-it" all attitude, but don't take it personally. Wouldn't you want a doctor who is confident in what he does?

8,900 for IVF with ICIS and genetic testing, $400 for anesthesia, meds vary by age

We were told that we would have an opinion on how many were transferred. But his goal is One Happy Healthy Baby.

He knows how to explain all procedures very well so we understand why he’s doing what and how. His bedside manner can be a little cold but knowing him now it’s something I’m used to. I like that he will answer all questions even if he has answered them before.

Just be patient with the clinic and go in with an open mind. He has a big personality but he’s good at what he does.

It costs 11,000 for IVF with genetic testing plus medications.

I felt like he was knowledgeable about everything. Many of my questions were met with a quick response with several levels of detail. Sometimes I felt like the information was going to be impossible to retain, but once I got started with treatment, I caught on soon.

He seems like he really wants to help you.

He always made sure we knew everything and we understood the process thoroughly. He was very upfront and honest about what was going on during the process. He was always willing to help and answer any questions at anytime.

Make sure to be honest with him so he can help you the best way and can take the right course of action.

We went in unsure of what route we were going to take. He explained both routes and which one he thinks might be better. He also did preliminary testing to let us know our chances for each route. We went with his protocol which was RIVF and it worked the first time!

The cost for everything was very reasonable. They also helped with medications

He explained the approach on transferring a single vs multiple and the outcome it could have.

I was very nervous and apprehensive in the beginning but was reassured and had all of my questions answered. I was walked through my options and they made sure I was informed throughout my treatment. it was like having my own cheer leading squad.

He's an energy ball. Don't be put off by it. He really wants to help.

Had to take some stimulation meds which made me ovulate more. After that, I had an egg retrieval. They inseminated the eggs to make 4 embryos. 3 were healthy.

The costs were great. I didn't realize how much more money other clinics were charging for the same level of care.

Dr Magarelli took his time to explain all information and I felt he was trustworthy from the beginning when I first met him. He answered all questions my husband and I had and always showed compassion and understanding.

Be patient, this whole process takes time.

$14,000 per IVF cycle including genetic embryo testing

The max amount he would transfer was 2 embryos due to the chance of them splitting. His motto is “one healthy baby”

Dr. Magarelli did not have good bedside manner. He was very blunt and did not show compassion. He seems to be knowledgable though.

Don't expect to see him often at all and don't expect someone that will ask how you are doing after a failed cycle and say they apologize.

He used the same protocol for almost of all his patients except for the dosages. For my 2nd IVF, we used the same medications just increased the dose and same exact protocol for the third.

It was a package deal not including medications.

Dr. Magarelli was okay, I didn't have a lot of interaction with him and I felt like his nurse practitioner was the driving force in many of the decisions.

Don't waste your time and money here!

He's straight to the point and doesn't beat around the bush. He cares about how you feel but never baby's you. I appreciated the quick responses he had for the questions I couldn't get answers to from other clinincs.

He'll tell you like it is and won't b.s. you.

Our IUI treatment was covered by insurance mostly, but it was only $750.

HQA Fertility as provided us with the help we needed to have our chance at pregnancy we wouldn’t otherwise have had. It has been a difficult journey and Dr. Magarelli and his wonderful, caring and supportive team have shown us nothing but care and enthusiastic support all along the way.

Bring a book to the waiting room. It is a small place and see's many patients who sometimes take a while.

cheaper than any other clinic we researched

I am getting ready for my 1st retrieval and right now in the process I am very happy with the level of communication, responsiveness and the treatment plan. My first appointment put me at ease and I felt I could ask any question and not be judged. I felt comfortable and that's been important.

Give the clinic and Dr. Magarelli a chance to impress you.

It was a package and everything cost $9300. Meds were $5500. No hidden costs at all. It was great.

Every time we left his office we felt ready to continue this incredible journey. The following appointments were never a disappointment – all the staff has been very supportive and friendly. HQA fertility offers an online portal that is very helpful and useful. Nurses and staff are very prompt in responding to your questions or concerns.

He is compassionate but be prepared to hear answers you maybe were not expecting about yourself

He was friendly and helpful. Took the time to explain things, etc. he’s always realistic with you. I like his bedside manner a lot. He was helpful to me and a nurse helping me at an apt. He helped fund eggs through nurse couldn’t see. He was so patient and kind. He also remembered me from a FB live, where I asked questions. He also remembered me the next time I saw him for an apt. It was 3 months apart, He always has helpful ideas to help.

Just go in with a positive mindset and being open to suggestions. He’ll help you get what you want in the long run. He is a good doctor and. wants to help people.

We did an immune protocol. It did help. Gonal f cetrotide and letrozole etc. I’ve done two cycles. But I have dor and am 46., No fault of his by any means.But my eggs don’t make it to be tested (my insurance requires it, to pay for my ivf) But I am jumping to donor egg. I love how this clinic will work with you in your wants for your fertility journey. They just try to guide you to tbt best decisions.

I have to do outside monitoring. It’s hectic usually. I wish I was closer abs could monitor with them lol

They are a low cost clinic. It’s been great in general. Just a learning curve with my ins and what’s covered. They only downfall is how busy they are. It’s hard to get through on the phone

I haven’t done a transfer yet. But they work with you abs listen to what you want. I feel confident in using them for this. I’m doing 2 more cycles with donor eggs and then implanting.

Magaralli is very knowledge about the process. He explains everything in pretty good detail. Very understanding. He makes it clear that what you want, is what he wants. I didn't get to see him much but I know he is only one person, and extremely busy.

Keep an open mind. Give them a chance.

Started on bc cycle day 3 Started meds around day 5. 150units menopur (pm) 150units of gonal f. Went up to 225 for both. After second ultrasound showed fluid around my left ovary. Was also instructed to up my protein to 200grams a day. And start electrolytes. Started cetrotide on day 7 of medication. Also took on day 8 of meds. Day 9 of meds I triggered that night. Day 9 of meds was on a Thursday. Retrieval was Saturday. Got 10 eggs, 7 mature, 5 icsi, 2 blast. Waiting on pgs testing.

Good experience, haven't done too much into our treatment but as of right now, it seems like he's the right doctor for us.During our visit he treated us well, explained everything he was going to do, and also helped us stay calm during our visit. He explained the next steps that we would need to take in order to continue on our fertility journey.

Nothing yet. Have not done our full cycle.

Dr Magarelli is extremely knowledgeable and really great to talk to as a patient. He did a great job gauging what our level of previous knowledge was and talking to both myself and my husband on our own levels of knowledge-making sure we both understood what was going on.

Be open and upfront and make sure to ask every question you have.

Have not yet begun treatment but was previously recommended to use IVF for male factor infertility (while my (F) fertility seems normal, my husband has poor shape, giving us a 1-3% chance of conceiving on our own). Dr Mag recommended IVF with ICSI to overcome the male factor to give us very high probability of conceiving. (We took a break and now are repeating our tests to begin treatment soon).

Dr Mag posts the costs for IVF, IUI and Testing on his public website. https://magarellifertility.com/for-patients/low-cost-ivf/ Low Cost IVF is his main priority! There is also a finance person on staff to answer any other detailed questions about costs. The costs on the website are what we were billed. (Our insurance doesn't cover anything fertility related). They also were willing to work with us around a payment plan as needed. The only main thing that doesn't get posted is costs for blood work since that is through a separate lab (and sometimes/often is supposed to be covered by insurance).

Dr Magarelli takes into consideration every factor of fertility in his recommendations. For IVF he has a partnership with a genetics lab for embryo chromosome testing which is our highest likely hood (and is our choice). With genetics testing it seems like he always recommends single embryo. Without genetics testing I think he would make the recommendation on a per-patient basis (we declined this route so no extra information).

He is very very straight forward but also compassionate. He was very very understanding en we went in to discuss why we didn’t end up with any usable embryos. He hugged us and told me it was ok to cry. He has been very thorough with all of our testing and explaining what we need to do next. He was also respectful when we declined the suggestion to use doner sperm. I really really like him and would recommend him to anyone.

Be persistent with the staff. It’s hard to get through to him but once you do it’s a great experience.

The egg retrieval including one transfer is $11,000. That also includes all the monitoring appointments and blood work and ultrasounds. That is not including meds. Everything at this clinic is way more affordable than any other clinic I have looked into.

I was not able to get this far. We had one inconclusive embryo so we will be doing another retrieval.
