My experience with Dr. Klatsky in 2018 for the egg retrieval was flawless. He kept me updated and educated on why he was doing particular procedures or prescribing medications and was very empathetic to all of the side effects throughout the process. When I came back in for the embryo transfer in 2020, I felt more disconnected. He relies heavily on his IVF nurse lead (who was great) to keep track of medications and cycle stages. There was one appointment i particular that he wasn't aware of what medications I was currently taking and he made recommendations to change medication and move up the cycle. I then received an email from his nurse later that day stating to not make the changes the Dr. had recommended, because he was not aware of exactly what meds I was on and to keep things as originally scheduled. Dr. Klatsky did follow up after our failed embryo transfer, answered all of our questions and was very empathetic and apologetic about the miscommunication that had occured throughout the FET cycle. He discussed in depth the plan for our next FET and why we would take that approach and it has been scheduled to happen within the next two months.
Overall Spring is a good clinic. ... The billing department is very responsive, but it took many emails and hours over the phone with them to get the proper paperwork to try and submit to my out of network insurance. My Dr. was changed the day of my transfer to Dr. Tran (whom I have never met or interacted with) and I was not informed until he came into the room to do the transfer and introduced himself. This was very off putting to me and added a lot of stress on a day when you do not want your stress levels to be high. The clinic was very apologetic about it and I trust that they will have better communication with me for our next FET.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
The advice that I would give to a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky is to make sure you ask a lot of questions and don't hesitate to request for a follow up phone call if more information is needed or questions need to be answered after an appointment or consultation.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
The first time I came into the clinic in 2018 I felt like I was treated like a human and not just a number. My Dr. and all of the nurses knew me by name and by the end of my egg retrieval the started to feel like family. When I came back in Feb 2020 to start the embryo transfer process, my experience was a bit different. It seemed like the waiting room was more crowded, procedure dates and times were changed 2-3 times due to scheduling issues (not due to my cycle) and there was some miscommunication happening. Thankfully, the missteps that were made were quickly corrected along the way and did not affect my treatment protocol.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility San Francisco and their degree of success.
My husband and I had been trying for over a year to get pregnant before we came into the clinic. Dr. Klatsky preformed a saline sonogram, and HSG, an ultrasound and ordered blood work for both my husband and I. He then diagnosed me with Unexplained Infertility saying that all of the tests came out clear. He also took into account the results of my husbands sperm sample that we had previously had done. He recommended IVF, stating that IUI has less chances of working to get us pregnant. We went with his recommendation and started IVF asap. We did a retrieval under his care and did pgs testing at his recommendation to prevent miscarriage or failed FETs. We then did a medicated FET that was not successful. Dr. Klatsky recommended a medicated FET (with intramuscular progesterone shots and estrogen patches), because during the retrieval he stated that my lining was pretty thin and that the medicated protocol would rule out the lining being a factor. Dr. Klatsky, as well as my husband and I were all pretty surprised when the first round didn't work, since everything went well, lining looked good and the embryo was a "perfect" 5AA. After following up after the transfer, Dr. Klatsky has changed his approach for our next FET to a natural transfer, as I reminded him of my history of pelvic tension issues, interstitial cystitis and spotting. He wants to make sure that endometriosis isn't a factor, although I don't have many of the symptoms and he has done the majority of non- invasive tests to rule it out. Just in case I do have it he does not want to give me estrogen for the next cycle, which causes endo to flare. It will be a risk because there is a chance my lining may not be thick enough on transfer day, but he thinks it is best to try something different than last time to rule out endometriosis or any other factors that may be preventing us from getting pregnant.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Spring Fertility San Francisco. (Assigned nurse: Laurel Maley)
Laurel Maley is our nurse coordinator. She is a great communicator, responded promptly, is compassionate and always in the know of what medications I am taking and was stage of my cycle I was in. She was great and one of the best parts of my experience at Spring.
Describe your experience with Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Overall Spring is a good clinic. From the waiting room to the Dr.'s offices it is very clean and welcoming. The nurses and staff are all very nice and greet you with a warm smile every time you are in the office. It seems like their client load has increased since we first came for our IVF retrieval in 2018, which I think was the cause to procedures times being altered multiple times and long waits for appointments.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
I believe the IVF retrieval was around 12,000-15,000. The FET with consultation, tests, monitoring and transfer was 5,100.
Describe Peter Klatsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Dr. Klatsky recommended against putting in multiple embryos at my age (33) and with my diagnosis (unexplained infertility) as it could cause a high risk pregnancy (multiples). I don't even think the clinic allows people to ask for multiple transfers at my age or with my diagnosis, but I am sure there are certain exceptions that they may do so. We allowed the clinic to pick the best out of our 3 pgs tested embryos and asked for the gender to be confidential and not shared with us.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
My tansfer procedure was rescheduled to 3 different times the day leading up to it, one of the times being only an hour and a half before the procedure was originally scheduled for. Dr. Tran did my transfer the day of and I was not informed that it would not be my primary doctor Dr. Klatsky until Dr. Tran walked in to do the procedure and introduced himself. The changing of appointment multiple times and not knowing that the Dr. for my transfer had changed until the moment of my transfer added a lot of stress to an already stressful process. It was apologized for by the nurse and Dr., but was definitely very upsetting and frustrating.

Dr. Klatsky from the moment on our first zoom call was the first doctor to listen to my medical concerns. He let me know what was happening was wrong and validated my feelings. He took a course of action to actually find out what was wrong and why after five years I could not get pregnant...Even though it didn't work for me I was do happy to finally have a diagnosis of why...He truly is an amazing doctor and I'd recommend anyone to him.
The [Spring Fertility New York] clinic is clean, well organized, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, everything from check in to checkout goes smoothly...I could call [nurse] Kris at anytime and she was always there. She would give me the best medical advice and treatment plans, if she didn't know the answer she called me back within an hour after asking the doctor. It felt like she was my nurse and counselor. When the transfers didn't work she was right there on the phone with you making sure that you were okay.

He took a course of action to actually find out what was wrong and why after five years I could not get pregnant. He found each medication to put me on that I wasn't going to be allergic to, he got my lining where it needed to be! Even though it didn't work for me I was do happy to finally have a diagnosis of why. He was the only doctor that figured it out for me. I would go to him time and time again of I could just for the quality of care and honesty he gives. He truly is an amazing doctor and I'd recommend anyone to him.

Listen to him and let him do a fresh start for you, he will help you get to your end goal. If not the end goal then the exact reason why it is not working.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
I felt like a human because they truly care. I traveled there from six hours away and saw him in the hallway and he knew who I was. You get your own nurse as well. I call and she answered. I felt cared for, listened to, and everything was not sugar coated it was explained in full detail.

For me mine was tricky because I was allergic to everything! We just used Letrozole and a steroid to get my lining thick.

Nothing negative to say, they are top notch. The clinic is clean, well organized, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, everything from check in to checkout goes smoothly. They are one of the best in egg quality I had a friend go here who had three failed egg retrieval. She came here and was able to get 4 viable embryos! They are just truly the best.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York.
Costs were around $4,500 per transfer
Describe Peter Klatsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Spring Fertility New York.
We just transferred one embryo at a time due to embryos not implanting. We did not want to do two just incase it did not work.

Dr.K was easy to get a hold of and his team was always readily available. He gave us a very detailed consultation BEFORE we even joined Spring, and was very clear and positive when it came down to our decision to go through another round of IVF. I had multiple questions about the treatment strategy and we also had a very important conversation about a potential surgery that we decided not to go with prior to preparing for our embryo transfer. All in all, he felt like someone who actually cared about us!!
[Spring Fertility has] Clean, nice facilities. They always have coffee, which I really appreciated. Lovely front desk, everyone is really nice, knows your name, and actually care about you. They over-communicate which is fantastic, and its easy to get a hold of your care team even during non-working hours...Dr. Klatsky spent more time talking to me than my previous clinician at world renown university. He spoke to us in both clinical and laymen terms and felt completely at ease throughout the entire process.

We went a different route than my previous fertility clinic. Dr. K was clear as to why we went this route and why we chose a different strategy for our embryo transfer. I felt comfortable and empowered and our outcomes were better than before, so clearly it was an optimal choice.

Dr. Klatsky has a lovely, calming presence. He’s obviously brilliant, given what he’s able to accomplish, but it’s his bedside manner and his ability to put you at ease that makes him wonderful. He is patient and soft spoken and thoroughly explains everything so you’re well informed...Dr. Klatsky provided facts and guidance which ultimately led to us deciding to do another retrieval, which was even more successful. I had been eager to transfer after the first retrieval but am so glad Dr. Klatsky explained how we might be more successful at my age with another retrieval - and we were! Dr. Klatsky never pressured us, but explained all options and offered us a choice, which we hadn’t always been given in the past.
Spring’s facility is clean and state of the art, but doesn’t feel cold. In fact, every detail was curated with the patient’s comfort in mind - from the chairs that patients sit in before procedure, to the bandages used after blood draws. Everything was well thought out to put the patient at ease. Appointments run on time, which is helpful when scheduling prior to work. The receptionists at the front desk are friendly and discreet. My only hope would be that Spring would accept more insurance providers. We were fortunate enough to be able to pay out of pocket, but supplements from insurance would have been helpful.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
As with any practitioner, be honest and candid. After one successful retrieval, we wanted to transfer. Dr. Klatsky provided facts and guidance which ultimately led to us deciding to do another retrieval, which was even more successful. I had been eager to transfer after the first retrieval but am so glad Dr. Klatsky explained how we might be more successful at my age with another retrieval - and we were! During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
Dr. Klatsky’s team always treated my husband and I with respect to identify the best go-forward solution. Having been to three prior fertility clinics, where we were told our unexplained infertility was just a “war of attrition”, Dr. Klatsky and his team sat with us, discussed our options and determined the best way forward. It was novel to be listened to, and not treated like we were desperate to have just any procedure performed. Dr. Klatsky used our data to try to determine the next, best steps for our family.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility New York and their degree of success.
We had previously been to three fertility clinics, and had three rounds of IUI and four rounds of IVF, all of which were unsuccessful. Looking at the data, Dr. Klatsky recommended lower doses of medication for a day or two longer than I had previously taken. The strategy was to allow my slower growing follicles to become more mature. As a result, we retrieved high quality grade embryos, which were successfully transferred.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Spring Fertility New York. (Assigned nurse: Maggie)
Maggie was our nurse coordinator. She was the most patient, empathetic and fast responding nurse we’ve ever dealt with. Maggie communicated instructions in a clear, calm manner and was patient when responding to questions. She eased a lot of worry and anxiety with her demeanor. I found that all of the nurses at Spring shared the same professional, compassionate and emotionally intelligent qualities. From morning blood draws to egg retrievals to transfers - everyone involved in the process helped to reduce the level of worry and anxiety you’re naturally feeling.

Spring did not accept our insurance so we were fortunate enough that we could pay out of pocket. So far, we’ve paid for two egg retrievals and one transfer, which was successful. We hope to transfer our remaining embryos in the future.

Dr. Klatsky customized my treatment from beginning to end, adjusting my meds throughout the cycle in response to every scan and blood test. How was your experience with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
I was blown away the amazing treatment I received under Dr. Klatsky's care, and am so thrilled with the results of my egg freezing cycle with him. Dr. Klatsky understood that I have some irregular factors (low ovarian reserve, irregular cycle.) He also knew that I'd gone through a cycle 1 year prior at a different NYC clinic that did not go well. The biggest differentiating factor is that Dr. Klatsky customized my treatment from beginning to end, adjusting my meds throughout the cycle in response to every scan and blood test. His personalized approach made an incredible difference, and resulted exactly Double (!) the number of eggs frozen in a single cycle. He is also an incredibly personable doctor with excellent bedside manner, and I always feel like he is both the captain of my treatment team, and also rooting for me personally.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
Don't be afraid to ask questions!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
Never for a moment did I feel like a number or a run-of-the-mill case, which is exactly how I had felt after my experience at a previous practice. Dr Klatsky and the team did not rush me into starting a cycle, were patient with my irregular cycles, made a point of understanding what was going on with my body before going ahead with forming a plan, and generally treated my case with the level of attention and thought it deserved... And the result was a doubly successful cycle under his care vs my cycle at the other fertility clinic.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility New York and their degree of success.
Mid-Luteal start, 12 days of injections (Cetrotide in AM days 6-12; Menopur and Gonal in the evenings Days 1-12.) Trigger shots were lupron (.8) and Novarel 2500. I began with 8-9 antral follicles, 9 were retreived, and 6 were mature/frozen.

Dr Klatsky is straight to the point, but he is also personable. He presented the facts on likely outcomes (for the egg retrieval) from women my age, so when things went much better, it felt like he had underpromised and overdelivered. He is up to date on research. It was easy to schedule time with him to connect, but it was often on Friday afternoons where he was on the move, so those calls could sometimes be a bit frustrating if he didn't have our information in front of him...
[Spring Fertility] Very nice offices, though an annoying place to park (very tight garage). They have a lot of different "teams". Since we were using a gestational carrier, there was the doctor + nursing team, the finance team, the gestational carrier team, etc. They seemed fairly coordinated, but it was a lot of names to keep track of. They use a standard email (like Klatsky team), so that helped a lot...There were sometimes miscommunications, but broadly things were pretty smooth. I feel like it was not consistent who my nurse was, but they were all friendly and responsive...

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Come prepared to conversations. He is direct, but also thoughtful in delivery of news.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
While most of the process is managed through the portal and calls from the nurses, Dr Klatsky was always available to schedule calls to speak live. And the nurses always called directly and when they said they would.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
They always called as promised. There were sometimes miscommunications, but broadly things were pretty smooth. I feel like it was not consistent who my nurse was, but they were all friendly and responsive.
Describe your experience with Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Very nice offices, though an annoying place to park (very tight garage). They have a lot of different "teams". Since we were using a gestational carrier, there was the doctor + nursing team, the finance team, the gestational carrier team, etc. They seemed fairly coordinated, but it was a lot of names to keep track of. They use a standard email (like Klatsky team), so that helped a lot. Dr. Klatsky moved from SF to NY during our treatment, he finished the egg retrieval and put together the plan for embryo transfer, but another doctor did the actual transfer. This was still pretty smooth, since the Klatsky nursing team stayed with us. I found the billing department to be a bit unorganized, but not too bad. We did this during COVID (Sept/Oct 2020) and it felt safe and also it was not super hard to get appointments or attention.
Describe Peter Klatsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
My understanding is that Spring will only transfer one embryo.

I cannot recommend Dr. Klatsky highly enough! He never gave up on our case even when there were multiple setbacks...He was patient and empathetic throughout our treatment. He was open to changing protocols based on prior outcomes...He is up to date on current recommendations and treatment plans...He was open to a discussion but was clear about the limitations of small studies and why he advised against these
Strengths [of Spring Fertility]- Great providers (doctors and NPs), incredible embryologists, wonderful nurses and care coordinators...It feels like they are invested in a successful outcome from beginning to end...Weaknesses - Busy clinic. Sometimes it can be hard to get in for your appointment at your preferred time; however, they always tried to accommodate me as best they could.
How was your experience with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
I cannot recommend Dr. Klatsky highly enough! He never gave up on our case even when there were multiple setbacks. He remained optimistic that we would have success even when we started to doubt it. He was patient and empathetic throughout our treatment. He was open to changing protocols based on prior outcomes. It felt like he was as invested in our success as we were.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Trust him. He is up to date on current recommendations and treatment plans. There were times when I wanted to try an add-on treatment if things weren't working but after we looked at the research together we decided against it. He was open to a discussion but was clear about the limitations of small studies and why he advised against these (cost, no clear difference in outcomes, etc.). In the end, the research based treatment protocol worked for us, we just needed to be patient and trust his instinct and years of experience.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. Klatsky went above and beyond to make me feel human during this difficult journey. He was patient and understanding of our emotional rollercoaster. He kept open lines of communication at all times and was open to different strategies if we did not have success with a prior protocol.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility San Francisco and their degree of success.
Standard egg retrieval protocol (cannot recall specifics) For our embryo transfers we tried multiple protocols: 1. Frozen transfer, modified natural cycle with Letrozole 2. Frozen transfer with estrogen patches and Lupron 3. Fresh transfer after egg retrieval cycle 4. Frozen transfer with Letrozole + vaginal progesterone 5. Frozen transfer with Letrozole + vaginal progesterone 6. Frozen transfer w/ Estrogen patches, Cetrotide, and progesterone in oil

Dr. Klatsky is very passionate about fertility preservation and helping individuals and couples achieve their family building goals. I was a very interesting case for him as I have a genetic mutation on Fragile X that impacts my fertility and that was a big surprise for all of us. We've been working to create an insurance policy for me should I experience early menopause.
Strengths: I chose this clinic [Spring Fertility] based on recommendations from friends (high NPS) and also because they have a reputation of having really good embryologists. Given I have few follicles, I knew that having the best people working in the lab would be really important for me to ensure I could have best possible results from the few eggs we could get. The clinic is working to be patient centric and I have seen an even greater focus on that since I have been a patient.

I was a very interesting case for him as I have a genetic mutation on Fragile X that impacts my fertility and that was a big surprise for all of us. We've been working to create an insurance policy for me should I experience early menopause. Initially I was very frustrated and felt sold to, but have now come to like having Dr. Klatsky as my doctor. I realize he just really believes in the work he does, but do recommend that you help ensure he knows if you are just looking for information instead of treatment in your first consult.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
He is very knowledgable and cares about making sure you achieve your plans. That said, if you are not sure about whether you want to do treatment, make sure you say that up front in a consult since he may assume you came and are planning procedures.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility San Francisco and their degree of success.
First retrieval - July 2019: did high stimulation protocol. I had 6 follicles so we debated doing high stim (a more typical cycle) vs low stim. He decided to go for high stim. Unfortunately, we ended up with nothing. 11 eggs retrieved, 5 were mature, 4 fertilized, 3 made it to day 3, 1 made it to embryo, did genetic testing and it was not genetically viable. 2nd retrieval - March 2020: Did low stim protocol. Primed with estrogen and then used Gonal-F and Menopur for about 2 weeks at a lower dose than before. Got 6 eggs. 5 were mature. 4 fertilized, all 4 made it to embryo stage. Did genetic testing and 3 viable embryos as a result. We were really happy with this outcome, given my number of follicles.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Spring Fertility San Francisco. (Assigned nurse: Kelsey McKinnon as Coordinator and Laurel as Nurse)
The care coordinator, Kelsey, at Spring is a great communicator and makes herself available to answer questions. Laurel, my nurse was great too.

1st embryo preservation round: ~$25,000 including medications for one round (paid for meds through Spring) 2nd round: Low stim round: ~$13,000 and then paid for meds separately (maybe another $3,000 to Alto Pharmacy)

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
I got incorrect information after my first genetic test. They corrected and set up a meeting for me to chat with the doctor when we realized they hadn't explained a certain genetic carrier status in the correct context, but I was upset about that, initially.

Dr. Klatsky is warm and meets each patient where they are. E.g., early on I wanted to leave most things up to him, but as we progressed I got more involved in the data. He is warm and compassionate, and has a quirky sense of humor...he will be candid and forthright...Mid-luteal cycle start for my second cycle as I responded poorly at the first retrieval...is kind, patient, and thorough...He followed up with me when the number of eggs retrieved at my first retrieval was not what we were expecting, with a commitment to figure out what was going on.
Spring is a nice clinic. I appreciate that it felt almost spa-like. For people with grueling work schedules, they are able to see you early morning (e.g., 7 am), and it runs like clockwork at that time. The receptionists are nice and remember your name/face. The early morning flexibility with appointments and the concierge-like service was the most important factor for me in choosing Spring vs. UCSF...Catherine is my patient coordinator, and she is absolutely wonderful in every way. I used to send long lists of questions at the beginning, and she never handled them with anything other than good cheer, a high degree of competence, and utter professionalism. I’m sure her case load must be high, but she is amazing at her job. I feel lucky to be working with her, given how on top of everything she is all the time.

We did an IUI cycle with letrozole and trigger shot [with Dr. Peter Klatsky]. I asked for letrozole over clomid because I had researched that it had fewer side effects...We’ve decided to start with 3 cycles of IUI and if need be go to IVF next. He was very warm and optimistic at all my ultrasounds and I didn’t feel rushed...he’s to the point but not dry. He’s optimistic but also realistic. We went in with unexplained infertility, he explained in detail both the IUI and IVF procedures.
My care coordinator Kelsey [at Spring Fertility] is fantastic! She’s always prompt in responding to my emails and helped me check off everything I needed to get done prior to starting out IUI cycle. I really like working with her. While she was gone on vacation, I still felt very taken care of by the other staff at Spring...Each IUI is about $1600. Letrozole and trigger shot about $100ish...Clean and modern facility. You get access to the Spring portal online that has everything you need for your cycle which is great. I’d get texts a few hours before I had to take my pills as a reminder and to check to make sure I had the correct dosage. The staff are all very friendly.
How was your experience with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. Klatsky is optimistic but also realistic. He’ll explain everything in detail if you ask him to. I came prepared with a list of questions at the consultation and he answered all of them with patience. My ultrasound appointments were smooth, I appreciated his positivity.

[Dr. Peter Klatsky] made me feel like I was his only patient. My wins were his wins. He stayed the extra hour to chat, always made the personal phone call, responded to emails...tempered my worries, managed my expectations, and put such an emphasis on the partnership that I never ever felt alone...sincerely invested in your care and goals to build your family.
Spring flipped our perception of a fertility journey on its head. They cared. They felt more like family than anything...The environment is warm, the team is kind and most importantly, their lab and approach are exceptional relative to even the oldest centers in the bay area. I'd go back to Spring or send any of my loved ones there 10/10 times.
How was your experience with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. K made me feel like I was his only patient. My wins were his wins. He stayed the extra hour to chat, always made the personal phone call, responded to emails. He tempered my worries, managed my expectations, and put such an emphasis on the partnership that I never ever felt alone. I remember thinking that I was at the end of the road when I had to find a new clinic and pursue IVF, but what I later learned was that going to Spring and seeing Dr K was actually just the start of the journey. It was like there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel and some semblance of control (as I knew I was in good hands).
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
I'd advise them to come in with questions and a notepad when you have your initial consult. He will have a lot to share with you and you'll have an in depth conversation on what's next for you. This meeting is important and can feel overwhelming so it's helpful to have some questions in mind and a place to put your thoughts. That said, his care team is incredible and will always follow up with detailed notes and ensure you have everything you need.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. K cares deeply about his patients. He is sincerely invested in your care and goals to build your family. He will take the extra time needed to make you feel comfortable. We trusted him whole heartedly and are so thankful we had the opportunity to work with him. The care we had prior to Spring was exactly what you'd expect from a big hospital setting. You felt more like a number. Physicians forgot who you were, what your protocol was, and frankly never felt invested in your success. Spring flipped our perception of a fertility journey on its head. They cared. They felt more like family than anything.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility San Francisco and their degree of success.
I went through a medicated IVF cycle (ISCI etc). I needed estrogen to build my uterine lining and progesterone shots to follow the pregnancy.

Upon meeting Dr.Klatsky, he did not ask us why we were there or what we were looking for. He immediately launched into a pitch about IUI and IVF. I told him that we needed to back track the conversation because we were there for fertility assessments, understanding if our bodies had any issues, and weren’t yet ready for IUI/IVF. He got pretty defensive, which tanked the remainder of the discussion. We got a little bit of information from him, but not nearly the amount we would have gotten if he had met us where we wanted information instead of trying to shove us into the IVF/IUI sales pitch box.
I had to constantly be on top of my nurses and coordinators [at Spring Fertility], especially to share results with me when they came from an outside lab (and therefore didn’t auto-update the Portal), to take my questions to the doctor and get back to me with answers, and to ultimately send my records to my new clinic...The Spring portal system is clunky and difficult to navigate. Staff needs to be contacted multiple times for follow through, no matter if it is a question about medication, scheduling, or trying to transfer my records to another clinic. I am constantly sending them reminder emails.
How was your experience with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. Klatsky was there to sell us IUI/IVF. We had to push him to get off that track and discuss our bodies, where we are physically, and where we are on this journey (at the time, we weren’t ready for IUI/IVF). When I redirected the conversation, I accidentally referred to embryos as babies, prompting a long, condescending lecture on how embryos are a distinct protected class. As a patient, it is not my job to get all of the terms right. I do not have an MD. I should not be spoken to that way when I slip up on fertility vocab. It is my job to get what I need out of an appointment and with Dr. Klatsky, that was a struggle. He didn’t connect to what we wanted, he was focused from the get go on selling us IUI/IVF, and he became defensive and condescending when we tried to direct the conversation to where we needed it.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Before he has a chance to speak, tell him your expectations for the appointment.

The Spring portal system is clunky and difficult to navigate. Staff needs to be contacted multiple times for follow through, no matter if it is a question about medication, scheduling, or trying to transfer my records to another clinic. I am constantly sending them reminder emails. I tried to work with two doctors at Spring and felt like I was being shoved onto their IVF conveyor belt by both. My input was outright dismissed by both doctors, a big no-no in a process that has to be collaborative. Both doctor experiences were an IVF/IUI sales pitch. (For context, I am seeing a new doctor now who doesn’t see IVF as a first or even second choice for me).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
I don’t remember much because it was covered by insurance. But the genetic testing was pricey. $250-$450 after insurance.

Dr. Klatsky is extremely intelligent and a very dedicated, hard working doctor. He's at the office everyday. I saw him every visit and he never seemed in a rush. I like to know ALL the details to be fully 100% informed, and every time I asked questions he was willing to explain. ... I felt most like a human in his care after my first failed fresh transfer. He called to inform me it was negative and genuinely sounded disappointed with me. During my visits he listened to all of my concerns and helped me discern what was "my fault" and what absolutely wasn't my fault.
Spring is an amazing clinic. It has a very calm, friendly, chic vibe with dim lights in the treatment rooms and top notch equipment. A weakness - be prepared to wait in the lobby at least 10 mins after your appt. time. I think they run behind and I've seen other patients get impatient. ... Some appointments were untimely for a full time employee, but I knew IVF was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, so I mostly did whatever the clinic needed for me timing wise. Sometimes there was flexibility in monitoring. They were always personal and always caring.

Dr. Klatsky is extremely intelligent and a very dedicated, hard working doctor. He's at the office everyday. I saw him every visit and he never seemed in a rush. I like to know ALL the details to be fully 100% informed, and every time I asked questions he was willing to explain.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. Klatsky is friendly, warm, gentle, direct and honest. I felt most like a human in his care after my first failed fresh transfer. He called to inform me it was negative and genuinely sounded disappointed with me. During my visits he listened to all of my concerns and helped me discern what was "my fault" and what absolutely wasn't my fault.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility San Francisco and their degree of success.
1 IUI with Clomid because I needed 3 IUIs in order to move onto IVF for my insurance. (I did 2 other IUIs through Kaiser.) No babies produced. Then I did 1 round of IVF resulting in 4 perfect embryos - 1 failed fresh transfer and 1 positive FET - currently 8 weeks. (I had NEVER had a positive pregnancy test, so it's possible!)
Describe your experience with your nurse at Spring Fertility San Francisco. (Assigned nurse: Helen)
Dr. Klatsky's team was VERY kind and compassionate. There seems to be a lot of nurses, which made for a confusing experience to begin with, but everyone was friendly and professional!
Describe your experience with Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Coming from Kaiser, Spring is an amazing clinic. It has a very calm, friendly, chic vibe with dim lights in the treatment rooms and top notch equipment. A weakness - be prepared to wait in the lobby at least 10 mins after your appt. time. I think they run behind and I've seen other patients get impatient.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Some appointments were untimely for a full time employee, but I knew IVF was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, so I mostly did whatever the clinic needed for me timing wise. Sometimes there was flexibility in monitoring. They were always personal and always caring.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
I was covered by insurance for IVF so I paid about $3500 for their facilities across the hall of the office (for retrieval and transfers), maybe around $5000 for things not covered, and around $4000 for meds all out of pocket. I also paid out of pocket $4500 for FET.
Describe Peter Klatsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
He would NOT have transferred more than 1 embryo. He was very vocally positive IVF would work for me.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
There were A LOT of names and nurses for me to keep track of. My perception was that they do this everyday as a job, but I was brand new to everything IVF. I had no idea I needed to stay on top of my inbox for an email from them, even though I had already discussed everything in detail with the nurse at the clinic after my appointment. Halfway through my IVF meds, they simplified and only had 1 nurse contact me with next steps, which was more organized and thoughtful. I knew what to look for. I would suggest for the patient to set expectations on communication from day 1.

Dr. Klatsky is very friendly and his calm personality always put me at ease. He explained the process simply and made sure I understood everything before I left his clinic. Since we have setbacks, he knew it wasn’t what either of us wanted so he was apologetic and ensured he’s trying everything he could so we can get started and get going. He informed me of what and when to expect to start our timeline and I felt more at ease.
Spring is a very new, modern and clean clinic. They offer free snacks, beverages, WiFi and they also have a water filling “station” so you could fill your thermos. All their staff is very friendly. Weakness is probably location since they are in downtown SF. They have a parking lot, but I haven’t parked in there. Metered street parking is not hard to find around there. If your appointment is early enough, street parking is free.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Take all of his classes because they’re really informative and if they want to meet him then they should take their free IVF information session.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. Klatsky asked me questions and valued my answers with complete understanding and validated my feelings. We chose to do IVF for the PGS/PGD testing and he understood that it wasn’t ideal to have to wait to start.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility San Francisco and their degree of success.
I’m not sure which specific protocol Dr. Klatsky put me on, but I had the saline sonogram and he saw that my uterus was healthy and smooth so I didn’t undergo a lot of testing. As I’m young, healthy and technically not infertile, I will be on menopur/Gonal-f/cetrotide/lupron. I have insulin injections as well. Dr. Klatsky said my injection amounts are a little more aggressive so they’re hoping I will produce more good quality eggs.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Spring Fertility San Francisco. (Assigned nurse: Helen)
Helen is really friendly and very responsive to her emails. I had a lot of issues with getting my medications and Helen was very accommodating and quick with helping me call and send prescriptions to different pharmacies. I am extremely appreciative of her friendly can-do attitude and speedy responses!

Describe the costs associated with your care under Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
IVF is covered through my work, but I realized their retrieval and transfer facility is out of my network so I had to pay for their facility fee which is not bad. Dr. Klatsky knows PGS/PGD testing is pricey so he works with a company that if they diagnosis you then they offer $99 PGS/PGD testing (not including shipping/storage fees). With all those fees included, the testing would cost $600 which is way better than $5k+.
Describe Peter Klatsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Because of my age he only agrees to do single embryo transfers, but I’m sure it’s case dependent.

We were so happy with Dr. Klatsky as our doctor. The whole fertility process can be unnerving and overwhelming and Dr. Klatsky eased our anxiety/concerns at every juncture. He was patient, pleasant, explained the scientific jargon in layman's terms and made sure that we understood what the process would entail....We elected to undergo a natural transfer cycle to limit the amount of injections needed. Besides that, our treatment plan was typical for the IVF process.
Strengths [Spring Valley - San Fran]: brand new, state-of-the-art facility; new equipment and technology; clean and comfortable rooms; helpful and courteous staff; best-in-class embryologists; great video tutorials and supporting resources Weaknesses: understaffed; could use technology better for treatment calendars and management of process... Helen was really supportive, responsive and showed great compassion. The only weakness we experienced was around proactive communication.

He was patient, pleasant, explained the scientific jargon in layman's terms and made sure that we understood what the process would entail. Furthermore, he empowered us to make the treatment choices we decided to pursue by presenting all the information about the alternatives and giving us space to make the right decision for us. He never pressured us to choose a course of action or even undergo subsequent fertility treatments, which he could have because it meant more revenue for him. For example, he even told us that we were likely to get pregnant on our own at some point and it was up to us whether we wanted to wait for that outcome or pursue treatments if unwilling to wait. We really appreciated that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Make sure that you understand the treatment calendar and the various steps of the process because that aspect can be really confusing!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. Klatsky took time to understand our challenges with conception and ran all the appropriate tests before diagnosing the problem. He was patient, knowledgeable and assured us that our situation was normal. He was always available to answer questions and even proactively reached out to us during the process.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Spring Fertility San Francisco. (Assigned nurse: Helen)
Helen was really supportive, responsive and showed great compassion. The only weakness we experienced was around proactive communication. There were multiple instances in which we had to email or call her to ask questions about the timing or process of the next stage of the treatment cycle instead of her reaching out to us. Furthermore, sometimes when she told us she would contact us with some update on X date, that date would pass with no contact requiring us to follow up. I think that much of this delay was due to the clinic being unexpectedly understaffed for the number of patients it treated so I think that Helen was just trying to stay afloat.

Describe Peter Klatsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
He allowed us to make this choice and informed us that PGS would improve the odds of a successful single embryo transfer by understanding the genetic conditions of our embryos before the transfer.

Dr. Klatsky is knowledgeable in his field. He has a lot of experience. He was always personable, and cared about my life beyond being a patient in the clinic undergoing a process that could make one feel.. dehumanized. He made himself available to talk more if I had questions and once I had absorbed difficult information. He made me feel valued as a patient. He was attentive to fine tuning the nuances of medication dosages so that I would have the best outcome possible, which I appreciated - his attention to detail.
[Springs Fertility's] Strengths - they are organized! They had everything prepared before my first appointment. I never felt like my treatment or information fell through the cracks - they have a lot to keep track of with a busy patient load and fast changing information, and they stay on it. Clean facilities, beautiful office. Weaknesses - little slow delay for labs to be uploaded to account online but really, those would be emailed to me within hours of my appointments.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. The hard questions, like how many egg retrievals have they done and how many successful pregnancies from those retrievals.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
The entire staff at the office is personable and greets you by name. While undergoing fertility treatments could make one feel dehumanized, harvesting eggs and having invasive frequent visits, Dr. Klatsky always asked about other areas of my life. He made me feel valued as a person beyond a very personal journey I was on in freezing eggs.
Describe the protocols Peter Klatsky used in your cycles at Spring Fertility San Francisco and their degree of success.
I was on a demi hault my second cycle - got 3 eggs at retrieval. My first cycle was with Menopur and Follistim - no Lupron as in second cycle - which got 4 eggs at retrieval.

They are great :) All super friendly, positive and upbeat, available, and quickly answer any questions via email. They really were a joy to work with and be around, and reason I had a good experience in this process.

He [Dr. Klatsky] was great and a pro. Not super soft bedside manner but very smart and funny. He presented facts in a clear and accessible way and was very direct. I trusted him completely and though he could be a little flippant, I felt like he had my absolute best interests at heart... Went on birth control to regulate predict my period. Then, I started on Menopur and Follistem for about 12 days. I was going in basically every other day while Dr. K monitored with ultrasound and blood draws. He adjusted the med levels accordingly and was very in tune. He explained why he made the choices he did and I was really impressed with how he calibrated.
The nurses [at Spring Fertility] are so incredibly kind and responsive and the doctors are just sharp as tacks. I trust them to get the absolute optimal outcome and are really invested in their patients. Also, lovely touches - no hospital atmosphere, nice little gifts (chocolates after my egg retrieval!) and amazing snacks in the waiting room. I also love that I had one doc and one nurse for the entire process so they KNEW me and my case.

I’m very pleased with my decision to have Dr. Klatsky as my provider during this process. He’s personable and appropriately empathetic with phenomenal bedside manners, which I found eased my trepidations quite a bit...Don’t hesitate to ask questions because he’ll gladly answer any questions you might have...took his time to explain every process to me, which made the experience feel individualized. The humanness allowed me to feel like a person and not a number.
My [Spring Fertility] care team was very attentive. Emails and calls were always addressed in a timely manner, even on weekends. The first night of injections, I panicked and there was an on-call doctor available to walk me through the process. I very likely wouldn’t have started my injections on time, if not for that compassionate, patient doctor that was on-call that night. I’m very satisfied with the quality of care I received at Spring.

My treatment consisted of Gonal-f, Menopur, and Cetrotice. I triggered with Novarel and 4mg of Lupron. Aside from the bloating, which was to be expected, I didn’t have any significant issues. The doctor projected 10 - 12 eggs would be retrieved; however, to my surprise, 21 eggs were retrieved and all matured.

I very likely wouldn’t have started my injections on time, if not for that compassionate, patient doctor that was on-call that night. I’m very satisfied with the quality of care I received at Spring.
Describe your experience with Spring Fertility New York.
The clinic had an inviting yet tranquil vibe. The set up, from the snack bar to the books, was intentionally done to allow for a less stressful environment. I was appreciative of the short, yet inspirational readings available in the waiting area.

We used a Luteal protocol [with Dr. Kaltsky] - a great way to follow my natural cycle...really cares about his patients and is super knowledgable in his field. He's driven and thoughtful...is at the top of my list in terms of favorite doctors...And, he's a great human being! He was very compassionate in understanding my reasons for being there. And, he has a vision for how the future of fertility might look. Definitely a leader in his field...He knows his stuff! Come in with questions and be ready to learn.
[The nurses at Spring Fertility are] Very easy to communicate with over email. I really appreciated how the whole clinic has organized extensive notes on medication for patients...Beautiful, new, clean and forward-thinking! I love going into Spring's clinic. Much nicer than most doctor's offices. And, they always have a snack which is so nice. I find myself more often than not arriving starving in between meetings and life responsibilities. They think of every detail!...We used a Luteal protocol - a great way to follow my natural cycle.

Dr. Klatsky was honest and compassionate. He initially suggested that I shouldn't move forward with egg freezing because I wasn't a good candidate and he didn't want me to waste my time and resources...to test my egg quality, I choose a sperm donor and had success freezing embryos. The first round of embryo freezing produced no embryos but the second time, Dr. Klatsky adjusted the treatment and I was able to freeze 5 embryos.
Spring Fertility was just getting established when I started my egg and embryo freezing treatment with them in 2016. In the beginning they were personable, accessible, easy to book appointments and consistent with the assigned nurses. Over the course of a year as Spring's profile and patient list grew it became it lost the flexibility to accommodate schedules, assign the same nurses, and have that extra personal touch, but nonetheless the experience and success of my treatments remained the same.
How was your experience with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr. Klatsky was honest and compassionate. He initially suggested that I shouldn't move forward with egg freezing because I wasn't a good candidate and he didn't want me to waste my time and resources. I decided to proceed anyway and Dr. Klatsky set expectations that my egg count would be low while also allaying fears that it didn't mean I couldn't get pregnant naturally or that my egg quality was poor. In fact, to test my egg quality, I choose a sperm donor and had success freezing embryos. The first round of embryo freezing produced no embryos but the second time, Dr. Klatsky adjusted the treatment and I was able to freeze 5 embryos.

Dr. Klatsky used a low-dose more natural approach knowing a higher dose treatment strategy would not change my outcome. Though I only had 2 egg retrievals with [him], I think his strategy paid off as the quality of my eggs seemed to have improved over my retrievals from the past. You can tell at every monitoring appointment he thought seriously about how I was progressing and adjusted and customized my protocol accordingly. It made me feel like I was in the best of hands.
It was great that I had 1 nurse to work with the entire time under the care of [Spring Fertility]. I felt like she knew me well, communicated everything with detail and care...Gorgeous, state-of-the-art facility. Compared to my previous clinic, I hardly had any wait time, was always greeted with a smile by Reception and was in and out during monitoring appointments in 15 minutes. Egg retrievals and my transfer was done so seamlessly as well. I always felt comfortable and supported.
How was your experience with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
From my 1st consultation to my last appointment when I was 8 weeks pregnant, I always felt supported by Dr. Klatsky. He always thoroughly explained things to me, went through pros and cons if there were any, and just showed he really cared. He's one of the best doctors I have ever met and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking fertility treatments!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility New York?
Dr. Klatsky is an excellent doctor. With me, he was always extremely thoughtful, taking into account my unique case and coming up with an action plan while explaining it all to me in detail. You can tell he cares immensely for his patients. He personally called me multiple times to deliver the results of my retrievals and testing which made me feel very connected to him and his practice.

I believe the costs were typical compared to other NY-based clinics but I fortunately had the majority of my costs covered by insurance.

Dr. Klatsky always took whatever time I needed to reassure me and make sure I had all the information needed to make an informed decision. He was comforting, understanding, and professional. He performed 2 out of my 3 egg retrieval procedures, and the only reason he didn't perform the other was because he was out on paternity leave!...He made me feel very at ease through every process and procedure and I had great results from every retrieval. The nurses and coordinators were also extremely helpful and organized and made me feel like I was in great hands. Everyone listened intently to my concerns and addressed them with care.
The nurses and coordinators [at Spring Fertility] were extremely kind, helpful, and organized and made me feel like I was in great hands...The only area of improvement I want to call out is the communication between the clinic and the company that was providing the egg freezing benefits through my employer. Every time I went through an egg freezing procedure it felt like a lot of back and forth as I tried to explain what was covered by my insurance. I think this was mainly an issue on the part of my insurance provider, but it still would have been nice to see cleaner lines of communication. (Q121) which of the following did your treatment with the include?

Strengths: Organized, professional, clean, nice refreshments (important when having blood drawn), usually speedy. Weaknesses: The only area of improvement I want to call out is the communication between the clinic and the company that was providing the egg freezing benefits through my employer. Every time I went through an egg freezing procedure it felt like a lot of back and forth as I tried to explain what was covered by my insurance. ~$15K per egg retrieval procedure, but all but some $20 copays were covered by my employer/insurance.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
We were a challenging case and Dr Klatsy did not back down from the challenge and entered each phase of treatment with a positive outlook. He was very willing to change the approach based on current information and either move forward or pause to ensure we got the best outcome. He’s also one of the nicest most caring doctors i’ve seen. He’s realatable and goes out of his way to help coordinate care with other physicians as needed.
[Spring Fertility-SF's] Strengths—doctors—you see your primary doctor most of the time for all appts (and they rotate on weekends)—all of the doctors are caring and talented. The front desk staff is well organized and helpful. All of the nurses are very knowledgeable and prompt with responses. Okay The medical assistants vary in their abilities and some struggle with blood draws which can be frustrating. Weaknesses The finance team is a nightmare to work with if you are using insurance.

He’s realatable and goes out of his way to help coordinate care with other physicians as needed. My only critique would be for him to slow down a bit when he’s explaining things and allow more time for questions—we had already been through IVF once before working with him but he thinks so fast so you need to be ready ahead of time with your questions. Luckily his nurses are amazing and can help get answers after the appointment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Do your homework ahead of time but be open to his tailored IVF protocols—he knows his stuff and you get great results even if the approach is different from the larger clinics.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco?
Dr Klatsy is committed to his patients, empathetic to the challenges of IVF and has a great balance of positivity and reality when discussing treatment options and results.

Laurel is a rock star—well organized, prompt and amazing at concisely answering your all of your questions and following up with the doctor as needed.

Okay The medical assistants vary in their abilities and some struggle with blood draws which can be frustrating. Weaknesses The finance team is a nightmare to work with if you are using insurance. Slow to respond if they respond at all and they struggle to effectively work with insurance companies on claims. I’ve learned a ton about medical billing during the process because of the errors and lack of proper communication with our insurance company. Be sure to understand the entire cost of treatment and check your bills and claims frequently.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Peter Klatsky at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Out of pocket costs were a bit more expensive than larger Bay Area clinics but they take insurance (big positive!) and you get more time with the doctor than in the larger clinics. They offer good deals for medication packages and genetic testing. Insurance costs have not been clearly described and it is extremely challenging to get clear answers (or any answers) from the spring fertility finance team.
Describe Peter Klatsky's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
Since we had pgs tested our embryos, he recommended single embryo transfer which was our choice too.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Spring Fertility San Francisco.
One time there was an issue with their message system and we did not get an update that the doctor wanted to see us earlier than our scheduled appointment. We worked through everything and got an appointment the next day and they fixed their message system. We been told conflicting financial information a few times.
