Peter Klatsky

My experience with Dr. Klatsky in 2018 for the egg retrieval was flawless. He kept me updated and educated on why he was doing particular procedures or prescribing medications and was very empathetic to all of the side effects throughout the process. When I came back in for the embryo transfer in 2020, I felt more disconnected. He relies heavily on his IVF nurse lead (who was great) to keep track of medications and cycle stages. There was one appointment i particular that he wasn't aware of what medications I was currently taking and he made recommendations to change medication and move up the cycle. I then received an email from his nurse later that day stating to not make the changes the Dr. had recommended, because he was not aware of exactly what meds I was on and to keep things as originally scheduled. Dr. Klatsky did follow up after our failed embryo transfer, answered all of our questions and was very empathetic and apologetic about the miscommunication that had occured throughout the FET cycle. He discussed in depth the plan for our next FET and why we would take that approach and it has been scheduled to happen within the next two months.

The advice that I would give to a prospective patient of Peter Klatsky is to make sure you ask a lot of questions and don't hesitate to request for a follow up phone call if more information is needed or questions need to be answered after an appointment or consultation.

My husband and I had been trying for over a year to get pregnant before we came into the clinic. Dr. Klatsky preformed a saline sonogram, and HSG, an ultrasound and ordered blood work for both my husband and I. He then diagnosed me with Unexplained Infertility saying that all of the tests came out clear. He also took into account the results of my husbands sperm sample that we had previously had done. He recommended IVF, stating that IUI has less chances of working to get us pregnant. We went with his recommendation and started IVF asap. We did a retrieval under his care and did pgs testing at his recommendation to prevent miscarriage or failed FETs. We then did a medicated FET that was not successful. Dr. Klatsky recommended a medicated FET (with intramuscular progesterone shots and estrogen patches), because during the retrieval he stated that my lining was pretty thin and that the medicated protocol would rule out the lining being a factor. Dr. Klatsky, as well as my husband and I were all pretty surprised when the first round didn't work, since everything went well, lining looked good and the embryo was a "perfect" 5AA. After following up after the transfer, Dr. Klatsky has changed his approach for our next FET to a natural transfer, as I reminded him of my history of pelvic tension issues, interstitial cystitis and spotting. He wants to make sure that endometriosis isn't a factor, although I don't have many of the symptoms and he has done the majority of non- invasive tests to rule it out. Just in case I do have it he does not want to give me estrogen for the next cycle, which causes endo to flare. It will be a risk because there is a chance my lining may not be thick enough on transfer day, but he thinks it is best to try something different than last time to rule out endometriosis or any other factors that may be preventing us from getting pregnant.

I believe the IVF retrieval was around 12,000-15,000. The FET with consultation, tests, monitoring and transfer was 5,100.

Dr. Klatsky recommended against putting in multiple embryos at my age (33) and with my diagnosis (unexplained infertility) as it could cause a high risk pregnancy (multiples). I don't even think the clinic allows people to ask for multiple transfers at my age or with my diagnosis, but I am sure there are certain exceptions that they may do so. We allowed the clinic to pick the best out of our 3 pgs tested embryos and asked for the gender to be confidential and not shared with us.

Dr. Klatsky from the moment on our first zoom call was the first doctor to listen to my medical concerns. He let me know what was happening was wrong and validated my feelings. He took a course of action to actually find out what was wrong and why after five years I could not get pregnant. He found each medication to put me on that I wasn't going to be allergic to, he got my lining where it needed to be! Even though it didn't work for me I was do happy to finally have a diagnosis of why. He was the only doctor that figured it out for me. I would go to him time and time again of I could just for the quality of care and honesty he gives. He truly is an amazing doctor and I'd recommend anyone to him.

Listen to him and let him do a fresh start for you, he will help you get to your end goal. If not the end goal then the exact reason why it is not working.

For me mine was tricky because I was allergic to everything! We just used Letrozole and a steroid to get my lining thick.

Costs were around $4,500 per transfer

We just transferred one embryo at a time due to embryos not implanting. We did not want to do two just incase it did not work.

Dr.K was easy to get a hold of and his team was always readily available. He gave us a very detailed consultation BEFORE we even joined Spring, and was very clear and positive when it came down to our decision to go through another round of IVF. I had multiple questions about the treatment strategy and we also had a very important conversation about a potential surgery that we decided not to go with prior to preparing for our embryo transfer. All in all, he felt like someone who actually cared about us!!

Ask as many questions as you need to. Him or his team will be responsive and give you details, information, and solace.

We went a different route than my previous fertility clinic. Dr. K was clear as to why we went this route and why we chose a different strategy for our embryo transfer. I felt comfortable and empowered and our outcomes were better than before, so clearly it was an optimal choice.

Dr.K preferred to do a single embryo transfer in order to increase the outcomes of a live birth

Dr. Klatsky has a lovely, calming presence. He’s obviously brilliant, given what he’s able to accomplish, but it’s his bedside manner and his ability to put you at ease that makes him wonderful. He is patient and soft spoken and thoroughly explains everything so you’re well informed.

As with any practitioner, be honest and candid. After one successful retrieval, we wanted to transfer. Dr. Klatsky provided facts and guidance which ultimately led to us deciding to do another retrieval, which was even more successful. I had been eager to transfer after the first retrieval but am so glad Dr. Klatsky explained how we might be more successful at my age with another retrieval - and we were! Dr. Klatsky never pressured us, but explained all options and offered us a choice, which we hadn’t always been given in the past.

We had previously been to three fertility clinics, and had three rounds of IUI and four rounds of IVF, all of which were unsuccessful. Looking at the data, Dr. Klatsky recommended lower doses of medication for a day or two longer than I had previously taken. The strategy was to allow my slower growing follicles to become more mature. As a result, we retrieved high quality grade embryos, which were successfully transferred.

Spring did not accept our insurance so we were fortunate enough that we could pay out of pocket. So far, we’ve paid for two egg retrievals and one transfer, which was successful. We hope to transfer our remaining embryos in the future.

We transferred a single embryo, given my age and embryo quality.

I was blown away the amazing treatment I received under Dr. Klatsky's care, and am so thrilled with the results of my egg freezing cycle with him. Dr. Klatsky understood that I have some irregular factors (low ovarian reserve, irregular cycle.) He also knew that I'd gone through a cycle 1 year prior at a different NYC clinic that did not go well. The biggest differentiating factor is that Dr. Klatsky customized my treatment from beginning to end, adjusting my meds throughout the cycle in response to every scan and blood test. His personalized approach made an incredible difference, and resulted exactly Double (!) the number of eggs frozen in a single cycle. He is also an incredibly personable doctor with excellent bedside manner, and I always feel like he is both the captain of my treatment team, and also rooting for me personally.

Don't be afraid to ask questions!

Mid-Luteal start, 12 days of injections (Cetrotide in AM days 6-12; Menopur and Gonal in the evenings Days 1-12.) Trigger shots were lupron (.8) and Novarel 2500. I began with 8-9 antral follicles, 9 were retreived, and 6 were mature/frozen.

$9750 for full cycle, inclusive of all scans, appointments, day of procedure costs. $3800 for meds ( I paid this to the pharmacy, not Spring.

Dr Klatsky is straight to the point, but he is also personable. He presented the facts on likely outcomes (for the egg retrieval) from women my age, so when things went much better, it felt like he had underpromised and overdelivered. He is up to date on research. It was easy to schedule time with him to connect, but it was often on Friday afternoons where he was on the move, so those calls could sometimes be a bit frustrating if he didn't have our information in front of him. Overall, he delivered exactly what we needed, was practical and easy to deal with.

Come prepared to conversations. He is direct, but also thoughtful in delivery of news.

My understanding is that Spring will only transfer one embryo.

I cannot recommend Dr. Klatsky highly enough! He never gave up on our case even when there were multiple setbacks. He remained optimistic that we would have success even when we started to doubt it. He was patient and empathetic throughout our treatment. He was open to changing protocols based on prior outcomes. It felt like he was as invested in our success as we were.

Trust him. He is up to date on current recommendations and treatment plans. There were times when I wanted to try an add-on treatment if things weren't working but after we looked at the research together we decided against it. He was open to a discussion but was clear about the limitations of small studies and why he advised against these (cost, no clear difference in outcomes, etc.). In the end, the research based treatment protocol worked for us, we just needed to be patient and trust his instinct and years of experience.

Standard egg retrieval protocol (cannot recall specifics) For our embryo transfers we tried multiple protocols: 1. Frozen transfer, modified natural cycle with Letrozole 2. Frozen transfer with estrogen patches and Lupron 3. Fresh transfer after egg retrieval cycle 4. Frozen transfer with Letrozole + vaginal progesterone 5. Frozen transfer with Letrozole + vaginal progesterone 6. Frozen transfer w/ Estrogen patches, Cetrotide, and progesterone in oil

Dr. Klatsky is very passionate about fertility preservation and helping individuals and couples achieve their family building goals. I was a very interesting case for him as I have a genetic mutation on Fragile X that impacts my fertility and that was a big surprise for all of us. We've been working to create an insurance policy for me should I experience early menopause. Initially I was very frustrated and felt sold to, but have now come to like having Dr. Klatsky as my doctor. I realize he just really believes in the work he does, but do recommend that you help ensure he knows if you are just looking for information instead of treatment in your first consult.

He is very knowledgable and cares about making sure you achieve your plans. That said, if you are not sure about whether you want to do treatment, make sure you say that up front in a consult since he may assume you came and are planning procedures.

First retrieval - July 2019: did high stimulation protocol. I had 6 follicles so we debated doing high stim (a more typical cycle) vs low stim. He decided to go for high stim. Unfortunately, we ended up with nothing. 11 eggs retrieved, 5 were mature, 4 fertilized, 3 made it to day 3, 1 made it to embryo, did genetic testing and it was not genetically viable. 2nd retrieval - March 2020: Did low stim protocol. Primed with estrogen and then used Gonal-F and Menopur for about 2 weeks at a lower dose than before. Got 6 eggs. 5 were mature. 4 fertilized, all 4 made it to embryo stage. Did genetic testing and 3 viable embryos as a result. We were really happy with this outcome, given my number of follicles.

1st embryo preservation round: ~$25,000 including medications for one round (paid for meds through Spring) 2nd round: Low stim round: ~$13,000 and then paid for meds separately (maybe another $3,000 to Alto Pharmacy)

Dr. Klatsky is warm and meets each patient where they are. E.g., early on I wanted to leave most things up to him, but as we progressed I got more involved in the data. He is warm and compassionate, and has a quirky sense of humor.

Come armed with knowledge, or as you are - he will be candid and forthright.

Dr. Klatsky is optimistic but also realistic. He’ll explain everything in detail if you ask him to. I came prepared with a list of questions at the consultation and he answered all of them with patience. My ultrasound appointments were smooth, I appreciated his positivity.

We did an IUI cycle with letrozole and trigger shot. I asked for letrozole over clomid because I had researched that it had fewer side effects.

Each IUI is about $1600. Letrozole and trigger shot about $100ish.

Dr. K made me feel like I was his only patient. My wins were his wins. He stayed the extra hour to chat, always made the personal phone call, responded to emails. He tempered my worries, managed my expectations, and put such an emphasis on the partnership that I never ever felt alone. I remember thinking that I was at the end of the road when I had to find a new clinic and pursue IVF, but what I later learned was that going to Spring and seeing Dr K was actually just the start of the journey. It was like there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel and some semblance of control (as I knew I was in good hands).

I'd advise them to come in with questions and a notepad when you have your initial consult. He will have a lot to share with you and you'll have an in depth conversation on what's next for you. This meeting is important and can feel overwhelming so it's helpful to have some questions in mind and a place to put your thoughts. That said, his care team is incredible and will always follow up with detailed notes and ensure you have everything you need.

I went through a medicated IVF cycle (ISCI etc). I needed estrogen to build my uterine lining and progesterone shots to follow the pregnancy.

Dr. Klatsky was there to sell us IUI/IVF. We had to push him to get off that track and discuss our bodies, where we are physically, and where we are on this journey (at the time, we weren’t ready for IUI/IVF). When I redirected the conversation, I accidentally referred to embryos as babies, prompting a long, condescending lecture on how embryos are a distinct protected class. As a patient, it is not my job to get all of the terms right. I do not have an MD. I should not be spoken to that way when I slip up on fertility vocab. It is my job to get what I need out of an appointment and with Dr. Klatsky, that was a struggle. He didn’t connect to what we wanted, he was focused from the get go on selling us IUI/IVF, and he became defensive and condescending when we tried to direct the conversation to where we needed it.

Before he has a chance to speak, tell him your expectations for the appointment.

We did not pursue treatment with Klatsky after the initial meeting. I could not trust him as a partner on our fertility journey.

I don’t remember much because it was covered by insurance. But the genetic testing was pricey. $250-$450 after insurance.

Dr. Klatsky is extremely intelligent and a very dedicated, hard working doctor. He's at the office everyday. I saw him every visit and he never seemed in a rush. I like to know ALL the details to be fully 100% informed, and every time I asked questions he was willing to explain.

1 IUI with Clomid because I needed 3 IUIs in order to move onto IVF for my insurance. (I did 2 other IUIs through Kaiser.) No babies produced. Then I did 1 round of IVF resulting in 4 perfect embryos - 1 failed fresh transfer and 1 positive FET - currently 8 weeks. (I had NEVER had a positive pregnancy test, so it's possible!)

Some appointments were untimely for a full time employee, but I knew IVF was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, so I mostly did whatever the clinic needed for me timing wise. Sometimes there was flexibility in monitoring. They were always personal and always caring.

I was covered by insurance for IVF so I paid about $3500 for their facilities across the hall of the office (for retrieval and transfers), maybe around $5000 for things not covered, and around $4000 for meds all out of pocket. I also paid out of pocket $4500 for FET.

He would NOT have transferred more than 1 embryo. He was very vocally positive IVF would work for me.

Dr. Klatsky is very friendly and his calm personality always put me at ease. He explained the process simply and made sure I understood everything before I left his clinic. Since we have setbacks, he knew it wasn’t what either of us wanted so he was apologetic and ensured he’s trying everything he could so we can get started and get going. He informed me of what and when to expect to start our timeline and I felt more at ease.

Take all of his classes because they’re really informative and if they want to meet him then they should take their free IVF information session.

I’m not sure which specific protocol Dr. Klatsky put me on, but I had the saline sonogram and he saw that my uterus was healthy and smooth so I didn’t undergo a lot of testing. As I’m young, healthy and technically not infertile, I will be on menopur/Gonal-f/cetrotide/lupron. I have insulin injections as well. Dr. Klatsky said my injection amounts are a little more aggressive so they’re hoping I will produce more good quality eggs.

IVF is covered through my work, but I realized their retrieval and transfer facility is out of my network so I had to pay for their facility fee which is not bad. Dr. Klatsky knows PGS/PGD testing is pricey so he works with a company that if they diagnosis you then they offer $99 PGS/PGD testing (not including shipping/storage fees). With all those fees included, the testing would cost $600 which is way better than $5k+.

Because of my age he only agrees to do single embryo transfers, but I’m sure it’s case dependent.

We were so happy with Dr. Klatsky as our doctor. The whole fertility process can be unnerving and overwhelming and Dr. Klatsky eased our anxiety/concerns at every juncture. He was patient, pleasant, explained the scientific jargon in layman's terms and made sure that we understood what the process would entail. Furthermore, he empowered us to make the treatment choices we decided to pursue by presenting all the information about the alternatives and giving us space to make the right decision for us. He never pressured us to choose a course of action or even undergo subsequent fertility treatments, which he could have because it meant more revenue for him. For example, he even told us that we were likely to get pregnant on our own at some point and it was up to us whether we wanted to wait for that outcome or pursue treatments if unwilling to wait. We really appreciated that.

Make sure that you understand the treatment calendar and the various steps of the process because that aspect can be really confusing!

We elected to undergo a natural transfer cycle to limit the amount of injections needed. Besides that, our treatment plan was typical for the IVF process.

He allowed us to make this choice and informed us that PGS would improve the odds of a successful single embryo transfer by understanding the genetic conditions of our embryos before the transfer.

Dr. Klatsky is knowledgeable in his field. He has a lot of experience. He was always personable, and cared about my life beyond being a patient in the clinic undergoing a process that could make one feel.. dehumanized. He made himself available to talk more if I had questions and once I had absorbed difficult information. He made me feel valued as a patient. He was attentive to fine tuning the nuances of medication dosages so that I would have the best outcome possible, which I appreciated - his attention to detail.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. The hard questions, like how many egg retrievals have they done and how many successful pregnancies from those retrievals.

I was on a demi hault my second cycle - got 3 eggs at retrieval. My first cycle was with Menopur and Follistim - no Lupron as in second cycle - which got 4 eggs at retrieval.

He was great and a pro. Not super soft bedside manner but very smart and funny. He presented facts in a clear and accessible way and was very direct. I trusted him completely and though he could be a little flippant, I felt like he had my absolute best interests at heart.

Don’t expect kid gloves but he is a really kind and expert doctor.

Went on birth control to regulate predict my period. Then, I started on Menopur and Follistem for about 12 days. I was going in basically every other day while Dr. K monitored with ultrasound and blood draws. He adjusted the med levels accordingly and was very in tune. He explained why he made the choices he did and I was really impressed with how he calibrated.

8k for one round of egg freezing; 4K for associated meds. Annual $600 for storage of frozen eggs.

I was surprised to learn that Dr.Klatsky was the co founder of Spring Fertility. He was extremely down to earth, realistic about results, and didn’t “push” unnecessary retrieval’s. He set realistic expectations and felt more as a friend than a service provider.

Be prepared to enter your treatment full force. Once you’re committed you’re in!

Initially an extended protocol was used to elevate my reserves. Although lengthy, it worked and I was able to produce more mature eggs than anticipated. Every cycle thereafter followed a standard 2 week protocol.

Minimal as I have insurance

Very clear explanations of treatment. Was very considerate in choosing a regimen that would be suitable for me and have a good/easy recovery time. Great communication and availability. He made sure that I had a gentle ramp-up of meds to avoid OHSS. He went out of his way to call after to make sure I was doing OK as well.

Ask questions, he'll take the time to answer them.

lupron only trigger and gentle/lighter hormone doses, because my AMH was a bit high and he wanted to avoid OHSS.

there was a minimal (maybe $300?) consultation fee, but luckily for me due to the nature of the program I participated in there was no other cost to me.

I’m very pleased with my decision to have Dr. Klatsky as my provider during this process. He’s personable and appropriately empathetic with phenomenal bedside manners, which I found eased my trepidations quite a bit.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions because he’ll gladly answer any questions you might have.

My treatment consisted of Gonal-f, Menopur, and Cetrotice. I triggered with Novarel and 4mg of Lupron. Aside from the bloating, which was to be expected, I didn’t have any significant issues. The doctor projected 10 - 12 eggs would be retrieved; however, to my surprise, 21 eggs were retrieved and all matured.

I opted for the package at a set fee.

Dr. Klatsky is at the top of my list in terms of favorite doctors. I think he's one of the very best in his field. And, he's a great human being! He was very compassionate in understanding my reasons for being there. And, he has a vision for how the future of fertility might look. Definitely a leader in his field.

Dr. Klatsky was honest and compassionate. He initially suggested that I shouldn't move forward with egg freezing because I wasn't a good candidate and he didn't want me to waste my time and resources. I decided to proceed anyway and Dr. Klatsky set expectations that my egg count would be low while also allaying fears that it didn't mean I couldn't get pregnant naturally or that my egg quality was poor. In fact, to test my egg quality, I choose a sperm donor and had success freezing embryos. The first round of embryo freezing produced no embryos but the second time, Dr. Klatsky adjusted the treatment and I was able to freeze 5 embryos.

From my 1st consultation to my last appointment when I was 8 weeks pregnant, I always felt supported by Dr. Klatsky. He always thoroughly explained things to me, went through pros and cons if there were any, and just showed he really cared. He's one of the best doctors I have ever met and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking fertility treatments!

Dr. Klatsky used a low-dose more natural approach knowing a higher dose treatment strategy would not change my outcome. Though I only had 2 egg retrievals with Dr. Klatsky, I think his strategy paid off as the quality of my eggs seemed to have improved over my retrievals from the past. You can tell at every monitoring appointment he thought seriously about how I was progressing and adjusted and customized my protocol accordingly. It made me feel like I was in the best of hands.

I believe the costs were typical compared to other NY-based clinics but I fortunately had the majority of my costs covered by insurance.

Dr. Klatsky always took whatever time I needed to reassure me and make sure I had all the information needed to make an informed decision. He was comforting, understanding, and professional. He performed 2 out of my 3 egg retrieval procedures, and the only reason he didn't perform the other was because he was out on paternity leave!

I did injections with Gonal-F, menopur, and a few others I can't remember. I never had any negative reactions to the drugs.

~$15K per egg retrieval procedure, but all but some $20 copays were covered by my employer/insurance.

We were a challenging case and Dr Klatsy did not back down from the challenge and entered each phase of treatment with a positive outlook. He was very willing to change the approach based on current information and either move forward or pause to ensure we got the best outcome. He’s also one of the nicest most caring doctors i’ve seen. He’s realatable and goes out of his way to help coordinate care with other physicians as needed. My only critique would be for him to slow down a bit when he’s explaining things and allow more time for questions—we had already been through IVF once before working with him but he thinks so fast so you need to be ready ahead of time with your questions. Luckily his nurses are amazing and can help get answers after the appointment.

Do your homework ahead of time but be open to his tailored IVF protocols—he knows his stuff and you get great results even if the approach is different from the larger clinics.

Mid-luteal start protocol—3 and then 4 pgs normal embryos

Out of pocket costs were a bit more expensive than larger Bay Area clinics but they take insurance (big positive!) and you get more time with the doctor than in the larger clinics. They offer good deals for medication packages and genetic testing. Insurance costs have not been clearly described and it is extremely challenging to get clear answers (or any answers) from the spring fertility finance team.

Since we had pgs tested our embryos, he recommended single embryo transfer which was our choice too.
