[Dr. Phillip Romanski has a] calm demeanor and how clearly and patiently he explains things...would take the time to talk with me sometimes for quite a long time sorting through the complicated decisions...endometriosis...donor embryos...was also willing to veer off of normal protocols in order to individualize my care plan
Isabel was absolutely amazing...They were an incredible team to have on my side. Isabel is a nurse practitioner and very knowledgable, very patient with my MANY questions, very responsive by phone and portal, very warm and caring...allows as much time and individualized care as I received
How was your experience with Phillip Romanski at RMA of New York?
I switched to Dr. Romanski after having a one off visit with him while seeing another doctor at the clinic. I switched to him because of his calm demeanor and how clearly and patiently he explains things. That was the best decision I could have made. I'm truly amazed at how much time Dr. Romanski gave me. Whenever I requested a call, he would take the time to talk with me sometimes for quite a long time sorting through the complicated decisions I had to make with such exquisite patience, care, and knowledge. He was also willing to veer off of normal protocols in order to individualize my care plan such as planning for a day 3 transfer of my embryos because of my age and the possibility of the embryos surviving better in utero than in the lab if we had waited until day 5. He was open to my suggestions from my own research and absolutely never made me feel silly even though I ask A LOT of questions and often have to go back over the same questions again for reassurance.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Phillip Romanski at RMA of New York?
Know that you are in good hands with Dr. Romanski. He doesn't have a very outgoing personality, so I can imagine to some he might be hard to read at first, but he's actually very warm and caring.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Phillip Romanski at RMA of New York?
Dr. Romanski was always extremely kind and patient. I felt that he truly cared. He went above and beyond several times spending a long time talking with me on the phone when I was having a hard time sorting through what should be done next. I've never experienced such patience from a doctor.
Describe the protocols Phillip Romanski used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I came to Dr. Romanski at a time when I had already had unsuccessful IVFs with my own eggs and had decided to use donor embryos. I have endometriosis so in order to reduce inflammation in my body, I did a course of Lupron Depot for 2 months before doing the first donor embryo transfer. We did a medicated FET cycle, so 4 weeks after the second Lupron shot, I started on estrogen and then progesterone injections. The embryos were stored at another Shady Grove facility in Maryland, so I traveled there for the transfer. That one unfortunately didn't take. At that point, I began to consider having a laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis in hopes of having a better chance with my one remaining donor embryo. Dr. Romanski was very patient in helping me sort through that decision. I decided to go ahead with the surgery, but before doing so I wanted to take one more shot at IVF with my own eggs (since surgery for endo can potentially reduce egg count). We tried a cycle (with a moderate dose of Gonal and Menopur), but I only had one follicle and so we decided to do an IUI rather than a retrieval. I did not get pregnant, so I went ahead with surgery for endo (with Dr. Peter Sticco who I also highly highly recommend!). After surgery, I again did two months of Lupron Depot this time adding Letrozole. I had previously heard about this protocol from another doctor and Dr. Romanski was open to trying it. We again did a medicated FET cycle, so four weeks after the second Lupron shot, we started estrogen and then progesterone injections. I did the second donor embryo transfer and it worked!!

Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
I saw Dr. Romanski when he was at Shady Grove Fertility before Shady Grove was taken over by RMA. SGF was lovely and I hope for Dr. Romanski and his patients that RMA allows as much time and individualized care as I received with SGF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Phillip Romanski at RMA of New York.
My insurance luckily covered most costs.
Describe Phillip Romanski's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
It wasn't a question for me since I did my transfers with PGT tested donor embryos, it made sense to to do single embryo transfers. When I tried doing a retrieval for my own eggs with Dr. Romanski, we had discussed that he was open to either doing a day 2 or 3 transfer with multiple untested embryos (which makes sense for someone who is 42 years old and more likely to have only one if any normal embryos from one retrieval) or to waiting until day 5 so we could test the embryos. Dr. Romanski is willing to individualize care.
I can’t say enough positive things about Dr. Romanski...During one of the most difficult times in my life, he was kind, knowledgeable, and supportive. We really received personalized care. Good news or bad, a phone call from Dr. Romanski was always a positive...He was very kind in managing expectations, I really felt his empathy when things were not going well...The physicians do rotate for the egg retrieval.

We had male factor but decided to do an IUI. The day of procedure, we found out the seamen we had was really low…our odds had dropped to 5%. He was honest but gave me the chance to make the decision to proceed. After that, we went straight to IVF. I had to stim for like 17 days, so there was a lot of monitoring. We considered a fresh transfer, but my progesterone had started to rise. We did a frozen transfer, and so far so good!

Describe Phillip Romanski's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility New York (closed).
I think doing a single transfer made the most sense given my medical history. We had a concern (rational or not) of multiples.
[Dr. Phillip Romanski] did some testing and recommened a plan of action in order to improve our chances...got pregnant after the 1st attempt by following his recommendations...prescribed ovasitol in order to regularize my cycles and improve egg quality. He also prescribed prenatal vitamins.
[RMA of New York has] an in house dietitian as and the consultation is free of charge for their patients....open early in the morning and have a few locations in the city, so it's easy to do bloodwork before work...was always available to answer any calls or any questions/ concerns and even followed up with us to check in after the visits
How was your experience with Phillip Romanski at RMA of New York?
We went to see Dr. Romanski as we were looking to start a family. I'm in my mid 30's with a history of PCOS and irregular cycles. He did some testing and recommened a plan of action in order to improve our chances. We got pregnant after the 1st attempt by following his recommendations. Once we got a positive test, we called him and he offered to monitor the early weeks of pregnancy (usually OBGyns see you after the 9th week). I had some concerning symptoms during the first few weeks and he was always willing to see us right away and make sure that the baby was ok.

Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Maddie Madeleine Moore)
I'm very appreciative of Maddie. I had a spotting episode during early pregnancy and she stayed with me on the phone for a good half an hour comforting me and trying to see if I was more prone to this due to my blood type. She also called every afternoon with bloodwork results. I didn't have to follow up with the clinic, just waited for their call.

Describe Phillip Romanski's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
Dr Romanski has a calming, reassuring bedside manner and was patient with all my questions. He goes above and beyond, making sure all my personal health risk factors were evaluated before starting my cycle. Dr Romanski calibrated my injections on a daily basis, and prompted a trigger which was so perfectly timed that all my eggs retrieved were mature...pretty chill and methodical
The team at SGF NY also took amazing care of me during my first (and hopefully last) egg retrieval cycle. I cannot recommend Dr Romanski and SGF NY enough...The team at SGF NY is amazing. Besides Isabel, there’s Sara who gave me a foolproof tutorial on injections and explained how to contact my pharmacy. Jenelle made blood draws bearable and gave me great tips on how to reduce bruising. Not forgetting, Nana their in-house financial counsellor, who helped me navigate the insurance payments. Bonus: The clinic has never made me feel bad about being late…. And I’m so grateful for that!

Dr Romanski lowered my Gonal F since my ovaries were reacting well. I was at 7000+ pg/ml for E2 when I triggered and had 29 eggs retrieved.

Isabel was fastidious in following up on when to order/refill medications and always remembered to check in on how my body was reacting. She’s so positive and encouraging - it really helps with the process!
