During my treatment, I only saw Dr. Randall Dunn twice, and unfortunately, my experience as his patient was not positive. Developing a meaningful relationship with him was difficult as he rarely communicated or answered our questions. It felt like we were just a number in the system, and he didn't take the time to see us as individuals with unique concerns and needs. Overall, my interaction with Dr. Dunn was disappointing, and I didn't feel he provided the level of care and attention I hoped for.
The [Aspire Houston Fertility Institute] strengths are that the main location has all the procedures in one place. however, they schedule remodelling and other closures without notifying their clients, even those that are right in the middle of the process...No one was consistent in communications. They didn't call but sent laconic messages through the portal. They were always too busy to talk or answer questions and could not reach me via phone. Multiple times people said they would call back and never did. Questions were answered rudely like we were waiting their time. Several mistakes in the instruction were made, and no one took responsibility or attempted to correct them.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Randall Dunn at Aspire Fertility - Houston Fertility Institute (Prelude Network clinic)?
During my treatment, I interacted with Dr. Dunn twice - once during the initial consultation and on the day of transfer. However, he was absent during the ultrasound checks, and his staff was not approachable or easy to reach. He proposed tests without stating they were exploratory, framing them as necessary, and then refused to provide a referral. The clinic team insisted that for any questions, we ought to schedule a consultation meeting with him (with additional payment outside the paid procedure). His team gave wrong medication instructions, and no one took responsibility.
They provided instructions over the portal without ensuring we understood what the drugs do, and they scheduled appointments without confirming our availability. Whenever we had questions, we received short and rude responses. Unfortunately, our experience with this clinic was disappointing, especially because we initially chose it for another doctor who left midway through our treatment.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Aspire Fertility - Houston Fertility Institute (Prelude Network clinic).
During egg retrieval the day before the procedure, when I had to take the trigger, the nurse forgot to call with instructions, and I had to panic and call them multiple times after hours to their on-call until I could reach a person with information.
The nurse gave the wrong instructions, and when I finally asked another nurse, she said I was supposed to take something else. disregarding it was an issue. The clinic scheduled a remodeling all the operations to another location without informing the patients. I found our when my ultrasound was scheduled in an extremely remote location.
Dr. Dunn keeps up with the latest trends/treatment options for fertility...a lot of knowledge in this area. He explains in more detail than any other fertility doctor I have heard of/had interaction with...thorough in monitoring during treatment...called me to discuss results even though he was not in the office during that week...Dr. Dunn discussed transfers of only 1 embryo
The clinic [at Aspire Fertility] is set up well. The only criticism I have is that during our very first visit we had to meet with many different departments and we were confused about what we had to do next. I have not had any issues like that since...[nurse] Ashley asked my communication preference and stuck to that mode of communication...When I was told they would follow up with results, they always did.

Describe the protocols Randall Dunn used in your cycles at Aspire Fertility - Houston Fertility Institute (Prelude Network clinic) and their degree of success.
My 1st treatment cycle Dr. Dunn started me off with birth control pills and then moved into the higher dose injections due to my age. Per the ultrasounds and bloodwork my uterus was responding well to all of the stimulation. Due to PCOS my ovaries were not responding as well however. He recommended we not retrieve and try a different protocol without the birth control for the second cycle.

Although we have not had a successful treatment, we would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Dunn. He is friendly, intelligent, empathetic, and truly cares about us. After our losses, he has hugged us and given us encouraging words. He has stated many times that he prays for us. He presents the facts along with latest evidence to support his plans, but always listens to us. We never feel pressured to move in a certain direction. After our first cycle of IVF ended unsuccessfully, he humbly stated that he would not be offended if we wanted to seek a second opinion. While some may call us naive, we put little thought into seeking a second opinion elsewhere. We are committed to Dr. Dunn because he is committed to us.

Do your research, ask questions, but trust that he has your best interest at heart. Although he is very busy and sometimes runs late, he recognizes that your time is valuable, apologizes, and gives you his full attention each and every visit.

Dr. Dunn always treats us with compassion and respect. We come to him with a list of questions, but before we even ask them, he seems to answer most of them demonstrating how prepared he is and how much he empathizes with his patients. Although he is not present for scans, we feel that we can a personalized experience regardless of who we see including the ultrasound tech, nurses, and front office staff.
Describe the protocols Randall Dunn used in your cycles at Houston Fertility Specialists (closed) and their degree of success.
Dr. Dunn started with the initial blood work panel to determine my AMH level and HCG to see if my tubes were open. We then found out that I had lean PCOS which is why we started on the letrozole route. After two unsuccessful months, we then moved on to a round of letrozole and IUI. When that didn't work, we had a surgery to look for any signs of endometriosis, which he found stage 1. We then, switch to 2 more rounds of IUI but with clomid. When that didn't work, we moved on to IVF retrival 1 resulting in 2 pgs normal embryos. We had 1 miscarriage and 1 negative result from that round. Then we moved on to round 2 of IVF, this time with 6 normal PGS embryos. One chemical pregnacy and 3 unsuccessful transfers so far!

The nurses, technician, and entire staff are like family to me now! They know us by name. They cheer us on, cry with us after each loss or fail treatments, and remind us daily that our miracle is coming. It's just taking a little bit longer.
Describe your experience with Houston Fertility Specialists (closed).
It's hard to get in touch with the nurses. You need to leave a voicemail and they will return the call back to you. If you are a person that needs immediate answers, please know that this will not always be the case. The nurses have set patients that they are working with. IVF schedules are more complex and requires more of their attention. So if you are just starting out its important to be patient. The staff is kind and caring but let's remember that they're all doing their best to provide the best care. Fertility is a tricky thing. Treatments are based on the women's menstrual cycles which is not always predictable. Ask lots of questions when you see your doctor. This is the time to ask clarifying questions, tell them about your concerns, advocate for yourself. Doctor Dunn does a great job catering to my specifics needs and medical history. I never feel like he's prescribing the exact same medications

We trust Dr. Dunn and want a healthy pregnancy for both mom and baby.
We saw him [Dr. Randall Dunn] 2 times.. first time for our initial meeting to start ivf and then on the day he discussss our results with us. He was never present for one ultrasound and not even for my retrieval, he never called to tell us our results. I felt like all we did under his care was write a check and see his nursing staff..... He did a bloodwork panel, no ultrasound to check to make sure all looked good. He put me On menupor and gonal.... he also suggested my eggs be frozen until my husband could do his tese, I didn’t like this idea and questioned it several times after much of my own research but he always assured us it would be fine. We got 11 eggs, 6 fertilized and none made it past blast day3.
Front desk staff [at Houston Fertility Specialists] is friendly... nursing staff is not friendly or warm, your just another number when you walk in...I always felt like they were in a hurry to get to next patient. The ultrasound lady would never show me my follicles and told me not to ask there’s even a sign... how ridiculous is that? You give your blood down the hall and there’s always a wait, you have to take a number... feels like a cattle call.

He was nice at our Initial consultation and seemed to really care and seem to think our situation was easy but we never once saw him or discussed my care or how things were going along the way. Dr. Dunn was very motivated and confident, he knew what we have been through and wanted it to work just as bad as we did. He explained everything very well, even though we had been experience with the process. He was/is very passionate about what he does.... Even though we had 2 unsuccessful rounds of IVF, Dr Dunn didn't give up and still has hope. If there is a will there a way..It may not be the way we thought, but it's still possible. When/if we are able to try again we will defiantly use Dr. Dunn!
Very helpful, calming. We had to go multiple weekends/late nights & there was always someone directing us. I felt like a regular at HFS from the front desk staff , financial office, ultrasound/blood work (love them all!) and of course the calming rooms.... I didn't get to know one nurse very well, during my 2 treatments with Dr. Dunn. I always requested to talk to my previous nurse to answer my questions & to make sure my orders were set up.

Dr. Dunn has been compassionate and caring throughout our process. When we came to a crossroads in our treatment plan, he encouraged us to seek a second opinion. The [Houston Fertility Specialists] clinic is efficient, generally runs on time, and communicates well. For IVF cycles, I was disappointed that the lab doesn't provide daily (or every other day) updates on the embryo progression like I had seen with other clinics...While I was not assigned a primary nurse, I came to know most of the nurses that I would interact with. Typically, one of two nurses would be the ones calling me with U/S and bloodwork results, and I met them on my visits to the Fannin office (I used the Sugar Land satellite office for most of my monitoring appointments). The nurses were always compassionate and kind with any news they were delivering, and I never had any communication issues via the portal, phone, or in person...

Dr. Dunn has been open and honest with us, but I sometimes feels he chooses his words with the intention of being as gentle as possible. My IVF cycles were covered in large part by my insurance, but I found that the way the appointments and procedures were billed seemed to keep costs down under what even the financial counselor estimated. Each cycle cost in total under $2000 - again, that was with great insurance coverage.
Describe Randall Dunn's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Houston Fertility Specialists (closed).
Dr. Dunn explained to us the probability of pregnancy with each scenario including fresh transfers, frozen transfers, and PGS tested embryo transfers. Because we chose to go with PGS, he encouraged us to transfer one at a time. I do not believe Dr. Dunn was opposed to multiple embryo transfers, but he did not feel it was the right choice for our situation.
He [Dr. Dunn] immediately diagnosed me with PCOS, based on my lab results and medical history, and he set forth a plan of care. He always made me feel that, no matter the outcome of the next step, that he was on my side and determined to help.... After the surgery, I did two rounds of femara. The first round was the first time I ever ovulated. I did a trigger shot (ovidrel), but the cycle was not successful. I was pregnant on the second cycle.
The staff [Houston Fertility Specialists] is very friendly, and the offices are always clean. They did some reorganization of the rooms between my first and second times, and it just all seems like a series of small rooms and waiting rooms - which is something small to complain about.... Although the nurses there are very nice, it is always hard to get in touch with them. I wish the response time were quicker.

When I was trying to get pregnant with my first child (who is now an amazing almost 3 year old), Dr Dunn diagnosed me with PCOS and hypothyroidism. Since starting ovulation at home testing, I had never once ovulated - and he said that was due to the PCOS and thyriod issues. I started oral medication for those two and was told I needed to be on them for 12 weeks prior to let my body adjust. In that time, he did a test to check my uterus and found that I had fibroids. We scheduled my surgery, but he allowed me to take two rounds of clomid in the mean time - I never grew follicles large enough to ovulate on either cycle. After the surgery, I did two rounds of femara. The first round was the first time I ever ovulated. I did a trigger shot (ovidrel), but the cycle was not successful. I was pregnant on the second cycle. The second time I started seeing Dr. Dunn, we did the same protocol. I got pregnant on the second cycle again.

I am fortunate to have insurance coverage, so I'm not completely sure about the total costs. However, the costs were cheaper that the first clinic I went to - the IUI procedure was several hundred cheaper.
Dr. Dunn explained that we needed to do IVF, due to stage IV for endometriosis and for PCOS. The FSH he recommended was Follistim pen. I did use the pen and followed the directions according to the nurse. I did use the pen directing from the nurse at 275 IU but the next day I was told not 275 to use 225. I was misinformed. Overall, I was able to retrieve 9 eggs, (I only have my right ovary) 5 was turned into embryos. Only, 2 transferred and as a result it was a negative cycle.
The clinic [Houston Fertility Specialists-Houston] overall is great. The front desk is really welcoming, The financial coordinator was very through and was very helpful. She answered all my questions. As, a new patient be prepared to wait and wait. Bring a book or a tablet to keep you entertained as you wait.... The staff was excellent. They treated myself and my husband with compassion and wanted us to clearly help us achieve pregnancy. They were very through with everything and explained everything. The only issue that I encountered, was a phone call about the FSH amount to be given. I was told one amount on the phone and I administered the amount. The next day, I was told a different amount that I was suppose to use by the same nurse. 275 IU vs. 225 IU. Overall, I did not have any issues with the nurses.

Dr. Dunn overall was a great doctor. I felt that he described everything from the beginning of getting tested, to the hormone treatment, to the egg retrieval, to the actual IVF transfer. The wrong amount given on my FSH pen. I was told one amount of 275IU and 225 IU was the correct amount that should have been administered.
Dr. Dunn was very compassionate and expressed great confidence in our plans to get pregnant. He made me feel very comfortable while I’m his office when I learned about my unicornuuterus and he took the time to draw it out for me. While going over the findings of my laparoscopic surgery he pointed out all the visible Endometriosis and enlarged cyst on left ovary.
This clinic [Houston Fertility Specialists] is very professional and polite. They are very organized and their system runs smoothly. Always have your questions handy and you will have them all answered. I am very pleased with their service and would highly recommend their clinic. ... Also, any time I called I was not placed on hold and forgotten about. The staff always returns my calls the same day with instructions from the doctor.

While going over the findings of my laparoscopic surgery he pointed out all the visible Endometriosis and enlarged cyst on left ovary. He was very honest when I asked if he would be willing to transfer more than one embryo to increase our chance of having multiples-he explained the risks involved of me not being able to carry full term and that I would be a high risk pregnancy.

Describe Randall Dunn's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Houston Fertility Specialists (closed).
He said it would be too risky to transfer more than once embryo due to my Unicornuate uterus, and knowing my medicinal history (I’m also Type I Diabetic) which makes me a high risk.
Dr Dunn has been incredible. This was my 2nd IVF cycle, but my first one with Dr Dunn managing my protocol. The outcome was astoundingly better this cycle! I have nothing but positive things to say about him. I already had a lot of anxiety going into another cycle worried I’d have another not so great outcome. He always reassured me that they would take care of me...He is wonderful about providing you the education you may want...takes the time and care to speak with you one on one and always wants to ensure you leave with no questions unanswered. He is very much research based and doesn’t mind educating you if you want to know more. He is truly caring and has excellent bedside manner

They [nurses at Houston Fertility Specialists] are all well experienced and responsive...2nd IVF cycle with the clinic, so I received a discount. A full IVF cycle with PGS and unlimited frozen transfers until live birth or all embryos used. Total was around $15,000...The clinic is beautiful and does not feel like a hospital setting at all. The ultrasound tech and nurses for Dr Dunn have all been there for 20+ years. The entire staff seem compassionate and caring. Parking is easy and getting into the building and to the office is quick and simple.

I felt like a human because Dr. Dunn took his time to explain our infertility to us and remembered all details about our situation. He is very kind and intelligent....I appreciate he prefers eSET to give the best chance for one healthy baby....I specifically remember Dr. Dunn prescribed me a vitamin D supplement. I had no idea vitamin D was so important for conceiving, so that was very helpful to me....
The staff [Hou Fert Specialists is very welcoming and helped calm me down when I was nervous about my consultation. They let me know everything was going to be ok and answered questions I had. There was a miscommunication with the office location and they were quick to apologize and validated my parking at the hospital...

Dr. Dunn was great upon first meeting. I had several complications and as time went on his visits were more about taking notes and less about options. He wanted me to use donor eggs before trying with my own eggs. I had egg retrieval and wanted to try again and he was against trying again with my own eggs....He was always abrupt when speaking one on one. He was watching his computer and had very little eye contact. He never gave me a good explanation for my egg retrieval not working out.
Great staff from front desk to nurses [at Houston Fertility Specialists]. I would have the nurses get back to the patients in a more timely manner. I would have the nurses answer the telephone instead of leaving a message and waiting for them to return the phone call... IVF costs were the cheapest in the city. I really liked this about the clinic. All of the other clinics are charging $2000 or more for the same treatments

Make sure you are under the age of 38 and trying to conceive. He told me he wished I would have came to see him when I was 38 or younger. I think he has had more success with that age group versus the 40 and older club

He seems compassionate and caring. He would take the tome to get to know us and I never felt Like we had less than his full attention while I was his patient.... We did iui with clomid bc my husband has retrograde ejaculation.... Everyone was friendly and empathetic
I had Trouble ever speaking to a person via phone. They [Houston Fertility Specialists] almost never answer the phone You have to leave a vm or send an email and get a call back. That was very frustrating. Once they responded however they were very thorough and friendly. It’s just the initial frustration of never being able to get in touch with someone on the first try. It’s important if you know your cycles to keep great records or use an app to track for a bit before you visit.

[Houston Fertility Specialists has] 2 locations in sugarland and Houston which was convenient for my work schedule. Their facilities were clean and comfortable. They had early morning and lunch hours for blood work and other check ins... Dr Dunn was conservative in his approach to embryo transfer. He recommended fewer embryos for the transfer but also discussed this with us and let us make the final decision.
