Dr Homm always took the time to listen to my concerns and explain anything that I had questions on. He was a calm steady presence during a very turbulent and emotional time...Due to that, I felt more assured and ready to tackle what was next. He took the time to explain what I needed to better understand anytime I asked...was able yo retrieve 31 eggs. Of those 13 made it to day 5 as embryos. 8 of those embryos were tested, resulting in 6 genetically normal embryos...
They [nurses at Fertility and Endocrine Associates] were friendly from the front desk all the way through patient care. I felt like they really knew me and were rooting for me. I absolutely loved them...Call first during business hours to get ahold of someone. I found this was the easiest way to get through and really get the process started. If you do not get an answer leave a voicemail! I never had any issues reaching anyone...
How was your experience with Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
Dr Homm was the doctor that I needed during a very difficult time. He was calm and assured in his treatment plans. Due to that, I felt more assured and ready to tackle what was next. He took the time to explain what I needed to better understand anytime I asked.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
Trust your gut and ask questions when you are unsure. The process can be tedious but it is worth it.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
Dr Homm always took the time to listen to my concerns and explain anything that I had questions on. He was a calm steady presence during a very turbulent and emotional time.
Describe the protocols Robert Homm (retired) used in your cycles at Fertility and Endocrine Associates and their degree of success.
I started out by taking letrozole. I took this for 3 cycles with no success. We decided to move on to IUI. After 3 failed cycles, it was explained that my endometriosis could be impacting my path to motherhood. We elected to have laparoscopic surgery to remove the endometriosis and he was able to confirm that it was severe. From there we waited a cycle and tried 2 more rounds of IUI which ultimately were unsuccessful. We then decided to move to ivf. I took medicine to stimulate egg growth and was able yo retrieve 31 eggs. Of those 13 made it to day 5 as embryos. 8 of those embryos were tested, resulting in 6 genetically normal embryos. These 6 and the additional 5 were frozen. I began medicine again to prepare for a transfer and transferred my first embryo (a girl). This transfer was unsuccessful. We followed the same procedure, this time with a boy embryo and we’re successful. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
I hate that I’m awful with names because they were genuinely amazing. They were friendly from the front desk all the way through patient care. I felt like they really knew me and were rooting for me. I absolutely loved them!
Describe your experience with Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
Call first during business hours to get ahold of someone. I found this was the easiest way to get through and really get the process started. If you do not get an answer leave a voicemail! I never had any issues reaching anyone but I have heard a few people have. This was what I did and it worked for me.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
About 1,000 for IUI About 5,000 for laparoscopic surgery About 20,000 for IVF meds, treatment, and transfers
Describe Robert Homm (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
I was told that multiple embryo transfer was not the better option because the high quality of my embryos made it likely that they would “stick” and that multiples pregnancies were inherently more complicated.

Dr. Homm always takes lots of time to answer questions, speaks to me like an intelligent person while offering good explanations. He’s been compassionate and honest...I did feel discouraged when he started suggesting that we didn’t have options beyond surrogacy. My biggest complaint is I felt like all the attention has been on getting me pregnant and less focus on my being healthy to get pregnant- doing so we missed some issues. I wish I would’ve asked more questions about why my body was doing what it was. We’ve stayed with him because of his honesty and compassion and we felt like he would keep trying to learn more to help us.
We’ve outlasted some of the nurses [at Fertility and Endocrinology Associates] but they’ve all been kind and helpful. They ask after how we’ve doing and are compassionate...Great location and nice organized office, great explanations of finances. Very clear breakdown of cost. Office staff is helpful and great with scheduling. I would say they’ve gotten more busy recently but they still provide great care. Generally great about timeliness.
How was your experience with Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
Dr. Homm has been a great doctor. I feel like he is personally invested. I do think he expected by case to be way easier and had used words like “curve ball” and “unexpected” - I did feel discouraged when he started suggesting that we didn’t have options beyond surrogacy. Describe the protocols Robert Homm (retired) used in your cycles at Fertility and Endocrine Associates and their degree of success.
I tried clomid but just made cysts, then went to letrozole with estrogen, moved then to IUI with super ovulation and menopur, oral estrogen and progesterone. With IUI I made a lining and had eggs but never got pregnant. I’ve continually struggled to make a lining and have tried all different types of estrogen. Did menopur for IVF with oral estrogen, estrogen shots, and estrogen gel. I still haven’t made a lining over 5 mm in order to do FET.

Not 100% I remember but an emergency retrieval was $10,000. Frozen embryo storage is $120 a quarter.

Dr Homm and staff have always made me feel like an individual and taylored treatments to my specific needs.... Dr Homm doesnt sugar coat anything- which I appreciate it. He has always been candid about the treatments and success rates. He never pushed more aggressive treatments and let us decide when we were ready to take the next steps... Since we were able to get pregnant before, we started with genetic testing, amh, semen analysis, and karotyping
Clinic [Fertility & Endocrine Associates] is easy to find. Staff are well organized and answer questions promptly. Be prepared to see all the Drs at the clinic. Appointments run as scheduled the majority of the time. Only one of my visits has been delayed more than 15min. Billing department has helped me work to get the most out of my insurance.... All nurses have been friendly and helpful. Messages are answered and calls returned quickly

Dr Homm doesnt sugar coat anything- which I appreciate it. He has always been candid about the treatments and success rates. He never pushed more aggressive treatments and let us decide when we were ready to take the next steps. Although our journey is taking longer than expected, Dr. Homm has outlined and explained everything well.

Be your own advocate no matter which Dr you choose. If you go with Dr. Homm, be prepared to also see the other Drs on staff.

Describe the protocols Robert Homm (retired) used in your cycles at Fertility and Endocrine Associates and their degree of success.
We came to Dr. Homm after ttc for 1.5 years and having 2 chemical pregnancies. Since we were able to get pregnant before, we started with genetic testing, amh, semen analysis, and karotyping - just to rule out some common RPL issues. All came back normal. We started with letrozole, trigger and TI (also progesterone and estradiol support). We had a chemical pregnancy the first TI cycle. We then tried another 3 TI with no luck. Moved onto IUI (same meds) for 4 cycles (one was cancelled due to thin lining). No luck with the IUIs. All TI and IUI cycles were monitored to make sure follicles were growing appropriately. After those failed I had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy (all looked good). IVF is our next step.

Indurance covered testing and regular visits. Each IUI cucle (less meds) cost about $500 (including sperm prep). TI cost was just the office visit copay.

The first step with Dr. Homm was to remove the right fallopian tube, which was closed on one end. Doing so, it will prevent me from having a tubal/ectopic pregnancy. So far, that is the only thing I have done with him is the surgery a few days ago, which went great by the way. Before hand, he also recommended doing some genetic testing, we followed up with that to make sure we were healthy and there wouldn't be any potential risks. I'm glad we did that because it helped us to decide on treatments in the future.
Everyone [at Fertility and Endocrine Associates] has been very nice and helpful, gentle when I have to give blood samples for testing. I don't feel like another person passing through, they are very sweet and kind....I think the clinic has everything that a patient would need to continue on with their fertility journey. Dr. Homm and the nurse practitioner in the practice have been together for I believe over 20 years
How was your experience with Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
Dr. Homm has been great with explaining different options for our fertility journey. He doesn't waste time when it's time to move on to the next step of treatments. I recently had surgery to remove my right fallopian tube and he was amazing. He is very warm and welcoming with his patients and it really feels like he cares and wants to help. He doesn't make you feel like just another number walking in. He's compassionate and hopeful, therefore helping me to be less anxious and more confident.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
Don't hesitate, he is the best around and you will not regret choosing him to be your specialist for your fertility journey!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
Dr. Homm has been amazing at explaining everything and all of the different options we can take to conceive. He makes myself and my husband feel very welcome and easy to talk to. He has given me hope that one day we may actually be able to have a baby.
Describe the protocols Robert Homm (retired) used in your cycles at Fertility and Endocrine Associates and their degree of success.
We have recently just started seeing Dr. Homm a few months ago after finding out from my OBGYN that I have a unicornuate uterus. I think the clinic has everything that a patient would need to continue on with their fertility journey. Dr. Homm and the nurse practitioner in the practice have been together for I believe over 20 years. That right there says a lot about a clinic when you can work with the same people for that long. They have every treatment option available to choose for each individual's needs.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
Insurance has covered most of my visits thus far. I usually just have a copay. I just had surgery a few days ago so that was the first step in our journey. We will be deciding what's next and that's when the costs will be evaluated.
Describe Robert Homm (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
We haven't gotten to this part of our journey yet, but with my condition it is recommended that I only have a single embryo transfer, due to the smaller size of my uterus.

Dr Homm was very kind and positive. He made me feel at ease during all procedures.... He also was very flexible and willing to change his schedule around to accommodate whatever would increase chances of success. Initially I was scheduled for one date for retrieval, however, my body responded super quick so he rearranged to move my surgery up by a week. This would result in a weekend transfer which he was willing to do despite the fact they would be closed.

Monitoring appointments were easily scheduled. They were able to work with our schedules.

Dr Homm was very kind and positive. He made me feel at ease during all procedures.
Describe the protocols Robert Homm (retired) used in your cycles at Fertility and Endocrine Associates and their degree of success.
My first cycle: I was placed on 3 vials of menopur per night but later decreased to 2. I was prescribed estrogen tablets as well as estrogen gel. This was a frozen cycle so i began progesterone suppositories prior to transfer. Second cycle: i was prescribed 3 vials of Menopur per night. My body responded well but I did not decrease this time. My follies were growing extremely fast so my retrieval had to be moved up. I was a tad concerned I did not decrease (due to the growth rate) and unfortunately during retrieval, many had overmatured. I began progesterone in oil injections the night of retrieval. I was not prescribed estrogen tabs this time, but was prescribed the gel. However, i began the gel 3 days prior to retrieval so with the retrieval being pushed up, I am not sure if my body had enough time to respond before transfer. This part was out of anyone’s control.

What specific things went wrong at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
My husband has had a vasectomy so his sample had to be provided by testicular aspiration. When our first cycle failed (frozen) we were told we may have better luck with a fresh transfer. At this time we were informed my husband would need to undergo the procedure again because he would need to have fresh sperm. We disposed of what we had left and scheduled for the second procedure during our second cycle. At this time we were told he did not have to dispose, or undergo the procedure again, and we could have used what we had. Next, at the time of our second cycle, we were told this sample was way better than the last. We were told they were more motile and there was a high concentration. When this cycle failed, we were then told his sperm was immature, not able to swim and we could not do IUI with it. The conflicting information was confusing.

Dr Homm doesn't have the best bedside manor, but that's why I usually see Dr Divine in the office. Dr Homm does seem to be very knowledgeable and he did manage to give me the baby I wanted. I've not been as successful at having a second, though....Know that though his demeanor can seem somewhat off putting, he's still a good doctor. If bedside manor is important to you, see Dr Divine for your visits.
The original IVF cycle [at Fertility and Endocrine Associates] cost us around $20,000 including the meds and the ICSI procedure...The only weakness I've found has to do with billing. They switched systems, and started sending me a bill for $120, when I know that I paid in full up front, because they required me to. They can't tell me what the bill is for, because it's from their old system and they can't look it up. Other than that, I've never had a problem with anyone there.

Describe the protocols Robert Homm (retired) used in your cycles at Fertility and Endocrine Associates and their degree of success.
I do not have a good memory for these types of things. I do not recall the specific meds that I was on for the original IVF cycle. I just know that there were injections and pills and creams. The retrieval surgery was done under general anesthesia. Then more meds to build my lining, and the transfer was done in the office. I also had a lap and D&C before we started, after a uterine fibroid was found. That was when I was also diagnosed with endometriosis. My two subsequent unsuccessful FETs included Lupron injections (I don't think that I used this for the original cycle), estrogen pills and gel, antibiotics, steroids, and crinone vaginal cream. The transfers both also took place in the office. They thawed the frozen embryos that morning I believe, made sure they expanded, and then implanted them. There were always ultrasounds done before each transfer was scheduled to check the uterus and ovaries, and then another one done a week before transfer to check the lining. Nothing was done after each failure. We still have one more embryo to transfer, and I was advised at my last appointment that they've started to also include a uterine "scrape" before each transfer now. It's a procedure done in the office that's like a mini D&C, to increase the likelihood that the embryo will stick. But I haven't had that procedure previously.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
They are all very friendly and compassionate, and they all seem to have a real connection with their patients, or at least with me.

My expierence with Dr Homm was always great. We sat down in our first meeting together for hours talking about history. At first I was a little hurt with him discussing my weight as an issue but came to the conclusion he was only trying to help me get the results I wanted. Being as healthy as possible to have the a healthy pregnancy. He was willing to listen to my concerns and take them in to consideration.
[Fertility and Endocrine Associates-Louisville's] Weakness would be trying to schedule a quick appointment sometimes it was hard. Also no appointments on the weekends. Strengths- good patient care. Trustworthy. Knowledgeable Dr homm and Dr Devine are a great team. They work together to figure out your personal treatment plan and will do whatever it takes to make you comfortable. It’s very hard to deal with unexplained infertility especially when you have had one child. There are many fears going through this process but these doctors do everything they can to make you comfortable and feeling like your dreams can come true.

Being as healthy as possible to have the a healthy pregnancy. He was willing to listen to my concerns and take them in to consideration.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility and Endocrine Associates. (Assigned nurse: Julie and Dr Homms assistant )
Dr Homms assistant was always compassionate. Would answer any questions or concerns and also tried to make you feel as comfortable as possible even when your nervous as can be. Would always give a shoulder to cry on when you need it.
Describe your experience with Fertility and Endocrine Associates.
Weakness would be trying to schedule a quick appointment sometimes it was hard.

Dr. Homm is very patient and explanatory of every aspect of the fertility process. He treats me as if I matter and speaks with pronouns that shows that he is in this process with us, no matter what. When we have had results that weren't what we wanted, he consoled us and then adapted our plans to hope for the next round.... Due to my weight, Dr. Homm has advised me to lose weight, but since that is not a quick fix, he adapted the amount of meds used to work well with my current weight.
This clinic [Fertility and Endocrine Associates] is very welcoming and treats all patients with respect at all times. They also know the delicacy that topics and issues like infertility deserves. All members of the clinic team are well versed in how to interact with couples undergoing fertility treatments.... Also, the office informed me that they were not the cheapest place to get the HCG shot, and set me up with Glenrock pharmacy to help save me some money.

Every employee [Fertility & Endocrine Associates] was kind, remembered my name, and took time to check in on how I was doing and showed compassion. Success w/ Doc Too early to know
I would recommend not having new clients watch a sales pitch video for another pharmaceutical company prior to meeting with the doctor [Dr. Robert Homm]. Almost didn’t return to clinic because of this. I felt like I was being sold to at first. The doctor came in and first started talking about this instead of getting to know me...he took the time to explain everything including the list of options...explained everything very thoroughly. Maybe too throughly.

How was your experience with Robert Homm (retired) at Fertility and Endocrine Associates?
The next step is to start the IVF cycle as it seems to be the only reasonable solution. I cannot comment on the future, but this far he is explained everything very thoroughly. Maybe too throughly. Everyone is nice at this office. I will say that it is not as warm and inviting as it could be. Very old out dated clinic; however, the results will matter in the end.
