Robert Setton

Dr. Setton is terrific. We have been working with him for over a year, and while I haven't had a successful pregnancy yet, I am confident that if I'm to ever have one, it will be because of Dr. Setton's treatment and the care of his team. I've experience multiple miscarriages, IUI cycles, IVF cycles, and transfers under his care. After each event, Dr. Setton has sat down with us and reviewed all of the outcomes, discussed how he wants to change the treatment / protocol to achieve a better outcome, and thoroughly answered all of our questions. Each cycle so far has produced better outcomes due to the changes in treatment. Dr. Setton is also a kind person, very supportive and encouraging, as are all the nurses (the staff is amazing). Even though we've had setbacks, we feel optimistic working with the team.

Ask all of your questions! Dr. Setton will thoroughly answer all of them. No question is dumb - even if you're asking about myths you've read on the internet.

3 IUI cycles (2 with Letrozole, 1 with Clomid) - none resulted in pregnancy. IVF Cycle 1 - antagonist protocol. 12 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilized. All embryos arrested before day 5. IVF Cycle 2 - microdose lupron protocol. 6 eggs retrieved, all mature, all fertilized. Day 3 fresh transfer (because none of the embryos in first cycle made it past day 5). Positive pregnancy but pregnancy did not persist. Remaining embryos arrested. IVF Cycle 3: micro-stim protocol. 8 eggs retrieved, 5 mature, all 5 fertilized. 1 blast frozen & euploid.

Appointments are always well-run and efficient. I don't think I've ever waited for more than 5 minutes at most beyond my appointment start time, and if I show up early for monitoring, they can often take me in right away. There have been a few times when I've needed or wanted an appointment last minute and Dr. Setton has made himself or a member of the staff available within the hour itself to see me, even outside of monitoring hours.

The treatments seem on par with market prices. When doing a cycle, monitoring costs are included in the cycle package. Medications are separate.

Dr. Setton explained very thoroughly what the tradeoffs and risks were for eSET vs. multiple embryo transfer. We felt confident in his decisions.

Dr Setton is a very kind, smart, and caring doctor. You can easily tell that he knows what he's talking about and is passionate about his work. He also shared about his personal life and experience with me which helped to make me feel connected to him as a person and provider for my wellbeing.

First, that he is a wonderful doctor and his team is great. Second, that you can be totally open and honest with him and he'll always make you feel heard and give you a thoughtful response to your concern. Don't hesitate to choose Dr Setton.

My treatment was fully covered by my insurance. I appreciated that after my initial consultation there was a financial advisor who sat down with me and my husband to go over what potential costs could be associated and what was covered by my insurance.

I highly recommend Dr. Setton, from our first consultation, my partner and I felt like he gave all of the information we needed, but not too much, and asked us questions so he could understand our needs. I appreciated working with Dr. Setton even though we didn't have the outcome we wanted.

Ask questions, make sure you understand the treatment as it is happening. I ended up triggering on the weekend with the Manhattan office which was somewhat stressful because I didn't expect that to happen so soon and to not have a conversation with my dr about it. I would ask about those kinds of possibilities during your retrieval so you can set realistic expectations. Dr. Setton wasn't the one who did my retrieval either, which was fine, but a surprise I wish I had know about so I could be prepared. In retrospect, it makes a lot of sense but there are a lot of moving parts especially the first time.

I didn't quite understand the protocol only that it was meant to stimulate my ovaries without overstimulating them., which is exactly what happened. I did expect more eggs than I had retrieved, but in the end I had a great retrieval and maturation rate-which I believe is a result of his treatment protocol.

They are very convenient. I had no problem scheduling and could always show up even when the appointments weren't booked properly. I appreciated seeing the ultrasound during the appointments and wish i asked more questions of what we were seeing. For example, i have no idea what my lab results were outside of "everything looks good!" Which was helpful but I think if i asked for numbers I would have felt more informed about where I was in the process.

We had some insurance coverage and paid around $10K out of pocket

So far we have had a good experience with Doctor Setton. My husband and I liked him from our first appointment and throughout the process he has always been available, patient, warm and knowledgeable. He is straightforward so will let us know the risks and probabilities up front but always in a caring way. He also made the time to call me after important appointments where he was not able to make it in person.

Don't be shy of asking all your questions and understanding the why behind any recommendations/medications.

We first started with IUI and tried 2 cycles but based on the results we decided to move to IVF. For the first IUI I took Clomid which definitely affected my mood and for the second IUI I took Letrozole (did not have any side effects from this medication).

Insurance has covered most of the costs. I do remember that we paid $2,100 for embryo genetic analysis. This is a one time payment despite the number of embryos.

The doctor and clinic's recommendation is to go with single embryo transfer.

Infertility is never an easy journey but Dr. Setton is an amazing physician that does his best to make it "easier." He truly cares about his patients and is extremely easy to talk to about any and everything. He was an extreme source of knowledge, insights, and comfort during our journey and we were blessed to be cared for by him. I highly recommend him for anyone facing a difficult journey.

Don't be afraid to discuss any and everything with him - he is extremely open and no question is too small

The costs were coveted by my insurance, but when I initially looked I thought I’d be paying out of pocket and SGF was willing to work with me on the costs.

Dr. Setton was my fertility advocate from the start, even before I decided to officially become a patient with Shady Grove. He always made time to explain every option and answer every question- I never felt rushed in his presence. He made time to call me when he could not see me in person, even if it meant reaching out to me late at night. I felt like a priority- like I had someone who truly cared that I could become a mom someday. He told me at our first meeting that fertility medicine was his calling. A cynical New Yorker, at the time I thought it was a bit hokey. In hindsight, I recognize how true it is and how fortunate the community is to have him as a caregiver.

Ask all the questions you have! And then ask what questions you should have asked that you didn't. There is so much to know and you should never be shy about getting all the facts, big and small.

I came to Dr. Setton after an egg thaw of 21 frozen eggs my former clinic resulted in zero euploid embryos. I was shocked and devastated- I hadn't even known that was possible. I did two more egg retrievals once I started with Dr. Setton. The first resulted in 1 euploid embryo and the second resulted in 7 euploid embryos. I am currently 8 weeks pregnant after my first FET.

Dr. Setton was really helpful. I wanted to move quickly and he made that happen, getting me in to see him the same day as our virtual consult and answering all of my questions. He never made me feel like we needed to rush.

$7500 for the retrieval cycle, plus around $3k for medications, $450 for anesthesia for the procedure, and then $55/month for egg freezing storage.

From the first VC call during Spring 2021 until our graduation day in Fall 2022, Dr. Setton treated us like we mattered so much to him. His honesty, even in the toughest of moments, was always coupled with his unwavering belief in us being able to have our family one day. His warmth and patience made us trust in him. My insurance coverage was fairly great. I would pay co-pays for appointments and certain medications. For any procedures or medication that were not covered under my plan I paid out of pocket until I met my deductible or out of pocket costs.

Dr Setton is a wonderful doctor. He is caring, friendly and always gave me hope. He treated me like family. I can not begin to thank him enough for all he has done! I am lucky to have met him.
