Robert Straub

I found Dr. Straub to be very smart and able to explain my options effectively. He is a little bit blunt and to the point, but not to the point of being rude. I had four failed IUIs before moving on to IVF, three of which were natural/unmedicated, and I wish that I had a better understanding of the reasons to choose a medicated cycle beforehand. To Dr. Straub's credit, he did explain what was involved with each, but I didn't fully comprehend the differences that monitoring timing and using a trigger shot could make. My first IVF cycle and transfer were successful, and I have gone back to him for my second transfer for baby #2.

Don't be afraid to ask him questions. He may seem a little short at times, but I promise he welcomes questions and likes to answer them for you.

My one medicated IUI cycle was using clomid and a trigger shot. Then I moved to IVF and started with birth control pills before beginning injections of Follistim. I can't remember the exact amount, but I do recall that Dr. Straub said that it was on the upper end of the spectrum. He said that I "responded modestly" to the medication. I had 18 follicles at baseline, 12 follicles grew, 9 eggs retrieved, 8 were mature, 7 fertilized with ICSI, 3 grew to blasts, and all 3 were PGT normal. My first FET was successful with my son. For the FET, I was on Lupron injections for approximately 4 weeks before starting Estrogen patches, and then PIO injections a few days before transfer. I am repeating the same transfer protocol beginning the end of Oct to try for baby #2 in mid Dec.

Since I was going to the office close to me and not the main location, they were super flexible with scheduling. They just required it be before the lab pickup so that they could get the bloodwork results back in time.

I believe that an IUI was ~$400, egg retrieval cycle was ~$14,000, and I just paid for an FET cycle, so that was $4,600.

Dr. Straub only recommended a single embryo transfer to me and never even brought up multiples

I was very pleased with Dr. Straub and the nursing team at RBA. I felt taken care of each step of the way. All of my questioned were answered and they were always available. I was very nervous and unaware of what to expect and they went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable.

It's okay to not know. Go in and have your questions ready to be answered.

We used a traditional IVF with ICSI. My protocol included Gonal F and Ganirelix. We had a very successful cycle resulting in 19 eggs and in the end we ended up with 7 healthy embryos.

We paid for about $15,000 up front because our insurance did not cover anything and then another $3500 in medications

He is very matter of fact and wants you to have your baby through the way he scientifically knows it will happen. I was very pleased to learn that what he was recommending was in line with the best practices I had read up on. He is there for you if you are ready for IVF. He won't try to talk you into it but he really doesn't want to do other options when he doesn't think those things will be successful. But I prefer he to-the-point style.

Look for results, not hand-holding.

I cannot undergo IVF yet because of Covid-19 but I am in line for when it is allowed again. I am 35 with low ovarian reserve and my husband is 52. He wants to do high dose injections, ICSI, 5 day embryos with genetic screen, ultrasound guided frozen transfer the next cycle, assisted hatching, and post-transfer course of steroids and progesterone.

It is around 10k for if no insurance for just the egg-collection. If you have insurance they raise the price high enough that you end up paying 8k out of pocket. Labs and genetic testing are extra. Medications are additional and expected to cost 5-7k, then there are fees for egg/embryos frozen storage.

He appears to transfer the number recommended by the guidelines. It is age dependent and stage of embryo dependent.

Dr Straub has taken the time to explain every step of the process, all our options, and providing guidance with our selected next steps. He's direct with his information and interpreting our diagnosis, but compassionate to our emotions when talking things through.

Come informed: Cycle dates, dates of any procedures/GYN visits, family history.

My husband and I tried 3 cycles with letrozole, unsure on the dosage. We then tried 2 cycles with a trigger shot and timed intercourse. Due to my diagnosis, Dr Straub advised that IVF will give us the highest chance of success, but was open to us trying less invasive treatment first. Both letrozole and the timed intercourse was not successful, so we're currently moving on to IVF.

We're currently going through treatment. I would estimate that we've currently spent ~$2000 for testing, ultrasounds, medication. We have not yet gotten to the 'expensive' part.

Dr Straub said the clinic prefers to do a single embryo transfer, but I cannot remember the logic nor have I done further research on my preference.

Dr. Straub's strengths are in the way he explains the processes and makes you feel comfortable to ask questions. I never felt rushed through the process and my questions were always answered. One of the weaknesses I believe is the sheet that is filled out when he is explaining the process. He draws out the chart while explaining the process. This all makes sense in the visit however I think there should be a form with some info printed and then he could draw the process for the situation. I understand everyone's situation is different and a template can feel a little impersonal however after the visit the writing is hard to read and it is hard to review the sheet later.

If you are from Fayetteville or the surrounding area be prepared to travel. Many of the appointments will have to be at the main office in Sandy Springs. He is only at the Fayetteville office twice a month and they do not do ultrasound or blood work.

We attempted 2 rounds of IUI prior to IVF. IUI was a long shot due to a blocked tube. For the process I did clomid, vaginal estrogen and a trigger shot. Neither attempt worked. IVF- blood work and ultrasound on day 2 of cycle. Started taking 225 iu/ml gonal F. Ultrasound and blood work on day 6 of cycle. Continuing with gonal F and started Ganirelix. Completed the gonal F day 11. Completed ganarelix day 12 and took Lupron trigger shot night of day 12. Egg retrieval day 14. 16 eggs retrieved, 9 were mature, 8 were able to fertilized, 4 made it to blastocyst. Waiting on PGS results to see how many are normal and to do FET.

Approximately 1200 for each IUI IVF- process 14,100 includes all blood work and ultrasound and retrieval Medication for IVF- 2700 PGS-550 Unlimited FET until a viable pregnancy- 7000$

He was very straight to the point and helped us make the most realistic decision that would best fit what we were wanting to achieve. He was very informative and was clear on the plan. I had surgery to remove a polyp in my uterus and he did a great job. He does a great job of comforting during this emotional time.

Bring a note pad to write info discussed down because he tends to talk fast.

We first tried IUI which I started on 100mg of clomid daily and triggered with HCG on day 12 and underwent IUI 36 hours later. After the failed attempt, we embarked on our IVF journey. We started on a high dose of Gonal-F for my age due to my AMH being low. I started with 300units twice daily. On day 7 it was determined my ovaries were not responding and we cancelled egg retrieval. So the next protocol is called a "flare" protocol and Ill will be the max dose of Gonal -F 600units twice daily with Lupron. Have not started yet, if this doesnt work we will try max dose of other protocols

$14,100 for monitoring, transfer and PSG testing. This does NOT include $5700 that was paid twice due to one cancelled round.

He recommended single embryo transfer with PSG testing

I really liked him. I saw him about 6 times, either for consults, plan of action, scratch biopsy and he called when I was pregnant the 1st time. I felt like he was very smart a knew what he was doing .

ask questions. He always ask if you have any questions and it's your own fault if you don't ask them. He is willing to answer anything, even multiple times.

1. We did fresh transfer with ICIS. I was young and my fertility issue is a tube blockage and my husband had a vasectomy reversal so his sperm was an issue as well. It worked the 1st time, our baby is 2.5 years old 2. went in to use one of our frozen tested (PCG and PDG) embryos) did a typical transfer (BC, Estrogen, PIO). 1st beta was 20. 2nd beta was 6. 3. Currently in cycle. This cycle we did Lupron and a scratch biopsy.

RBA gives a military discount. Our Fresh cycle was about 8K and our 2 frozen were 2K a piece. We had genetic testing that was 1000 to take the sample.

I asked on our 1st consult if we could do 2 embryos and was told no. I was also 26 and it was my first cycle. I understood why he said no, the risk associated with multiple is high.

Dr. Straub is very knowledgeable and explains treatment thoroughly, but can come off as dry. I can’t say I imagine him to have the best bedside manner, but I would say he’s trustworthy and takes his patient’s care seriously.

Don’t take it personally when you first meet him and he doesn’t seem thrilled to see you. Be patient and you’ll see that he draws out your entire care plan and explains your history to you. You’ll appreciate his knowledge and personality in the end.

I had already been prescribed clomid and letrozole at my OB. But I had not yet done an HSG. And my OB didn’t think I needed metformin. The first thing Dr. Straub did was order the metformin 1500mg and HSG. It was clear. I took the metformin for a month and a half before we started a new cycle with a doubled dose of letrozole (5MG) and an IUI. We are waiting to see the results. But the actual IUI procedure was done by another doctor in the practice who was fantastic. Great experience. We feel heard and we feel this was the appropriate protocol for the moment.

Dr. Straub is direct and to the point. He draws a diagram as he speaks and lays out all of the details for you. He answered all of my questions and was pretty patient with me because I had a lot. He is not emotionally supportive at all. I cried when he told us ivf was our best option and he pointed to the box of tissues on his desk and kept talking.

Go with this doctor if you want an efficient, smart doctor who will cater to your timeline. Get a therapist elsewhere.

We had a lot of tests run on me including amh level, hormone levels, femvue test and maybe more tests. My husband had to do two semen analyses and ultimately they found male factor infertility was the issue. Due to his numbers ivf using ICSI and a frozen transfer were presented as our best option. We are about to start the egg retrieval process.

So far we have paid about 13,000 but expect to pay 26 or so for IVF with ICSI.

He recommended transferring only one embryo for us as it is lower risk.

The first time I met with Dr. Straub, he was compassionate yet blunt. Blunt due to the issues my age may play a role in success of any fertility procedures. I understood that. The last time I met with him was after the failure of my procedure. He was extremely encouraging, as my body did everything it was supposed to do to prepare with the help of the fertility drugs and we had a great looking embryo. It was the "flip of a coin", as he put it, whether the pregnancy would happen. Because everything set up so perfectly, he is completely on my side in taking 1 more chance.

He's a good guy. You can't go wrong choosing him to be your physician.

I started with Lupron injections. Then, patches and internal suppositories were added. These were simply to control my cycle and prepare my uterus. I was lucky as I had no apparent side-effects of any of the medications. The results were excellent as my uterus did everything it was supposed to do in the expected time frames.

My costs for embryo transfer were ~$6000 + medications. Insurance covered the cost of the initial consultation and the FemView (maybe?).

We never discussed multiple embryo transfer. I'm not sure that is even a consideration due to my age.

He is very knowledgeable and not afraid to move on to a more aggressive treatment quickly. I feel like our money is well spent and we are not wasting time and money on tests and procedures that are a waste of time.

Expect the appointment to be more of a no nonsense business discussion. His bedside manner in not all warm and touchy.

We did one round of IUI with Clomid at 50mg. We had a low response to this and learned of MFI. We switched to IVF and I took Gonal-F 150 and Ganirelix. We had 27 eggs retrieved, 26 were mature, 22 fertilized (ICSI and conventional), 15 embryos made it to 5 day blast. We froze all to prevent OHSS. We decided then to do PGS testing and had 6 normal embryos make it out of that. I just went in (today) for my first frozen transfer and now am waiting for the results.

IUI was $1,500; IVF with PGS was $13,830; unlimited FETs (until we bring home a baby) was $6,500

After 18 months with my OB including PCOS, 5 negative cycles with Femara, and a laparoscopy to remove severe endometriosis, I finally saw Dr. Straub. He was no nonsense which I appreciated. He outlined why IUIs would not work for us and we're on the same page to move forward with IVF. I thought it was great that he recognized we should pursue frozen transfers. I've felt comfortable asking direct questions and getting a clear answer. While I did a ton of research prior to seeing Dr. Straub, my husband did not and he felt Dr. Straub did a good job of explaining our issues, potential courses of treatment, why he recommends IVF, and how it would work. Dr. Straub is visual and lays it all out on paper for you. When he feels like the conversation gets de-railed, he brought it back. I'm a structure person and he seems to be as well so that works out.

Know your health history. Ask direct questions. While the process can be very emotional, go in to appointments with the goal of answers and plans.

Dr. Straub was very clear to recommend a single embryo transfer for my age and first IVF cycle.

Dr. Straub seemed like a great choice at first. He answered all my questions and explained everything thoroughly even drawing diagrams. But when it came down to it he was just to cut and dry. My husband (who had a varicocoele and subsequent surgery)...his doctor said we definitely had options as far as treatments, but Dr. Straub made it appear like IVF was the ONLY way to go. When asking if there was anything else to investigate on my end he was a bit flippant and said he could always find more tests to do. I was going to go ahead and do IVF and after try to look at treating any underlying issues, which I honestly felt he was overlooking due to the fact his goal is to get a baby and the way to do that was IVF regardless of any other issues. I ordered and received all the IVF drugs, but I couldn't go through with it because I just didn't feel comfortable with the decision and his pushiness of IVF over anything else. I should be at peace with my decision and happy to be starting to get somewhere on our fertility journey and maybe finally get our baby. Also after reading versions blogs on infertility and others experiences with egg retrieval I learned that some retrieval cycles are aborted for various reasons, which he never even mentioned as a possible outcome. He was very natter of fact about the process...not optimistic, or giving false hope....but more like this is how it goes...only that is the case when everything goes exactly according to plan.

Do not expect to get any emotional support from him.

I first met with Dr. Straub to assess if I had any issues contributing to our infertility. My husband had a varicocoele and subsequent surgery to correct it. There was originally low motility with 20% acrosomal defects. The surgery improved his numbers and his specialist (within the same practice) said the numbers were good enough for various treatment options. Dr. Straub had me complete bloodwork and a FemVue. Everything turned out normal. I am on thyroid meds and that was ok. My AMH was low normal so he suggested IVF based on some low sperm results (bad sample). Even after a new sperm analysis with good numbers...still pushing IVF, and was flippant when I asked if anything else to look at on my end (due to husbands doctor reporting an increase of 10% natural conception to now 60% now after surgery...but still no success) I wonder if there isn't some underlying issue on my end...but It seems Dr. Straubs goal is Baby, not treatment. I was supposed to start IVF (the drugs are in my fridge) but I did not feel confident or happy about the decision. I will now be transferring to another Dr. Within the practice.

Luckily we do have insurance coverage, which it has been suggested to me was the reason behind him pushing IVF so hard

I have a long history with Dr. Straub and from the very beginning I have had an amazing experience with him. He takes time to really make sure you understand everything he is going over. He has a habit of drawing pictures to help demonstrate exactly what he is talking about. When I experienced a ruptured ectopic pregnancy he gave me his personal cell phone number and fought with the ER staff on my behalf to make sure I had the best possible care and in order to have me transferred to a hospital that he worked with. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Straub.

Bring your questions. He has no trouble answering them, no matter how crazy they might be. He actually asked me one time what other crazy wives tales are going around in the infertility community.

I do not remember all the specifics in protocol.

As a young, otherwise healthy woman, Dr. Straub was conservative with the amount of embryos he wanted to transfer. He always suggested one but allowed my husband and I to make the final decision on whether or not we wanted to transfer 1 or 2. Both of my kids were conceived from a single embryo transfer.

Dr. Straub showed a great deal of compassion and expertise as we were undergoing the IVF treatment. He is extremely efficient and specific when it comes to explanations and reasons for the process and methods we used to get pregnant. He displayed wonderful planning skills and went through a timeline of the treatment.

Dr. Straub is trustworthy and an expert in his field. He gave us confidence that we needed throughout the IVF treatment.

It was a high-risk pregnancy due to my age and my husband's chromosome displacement. I had hysteroscopy (due to previous miscarriages), endometrial scratching (to stimulate uterus for IVF transfer), took synthroid to control my thyroid, and we used injections (progesterone, estrogen, etc) to prepare my body for pregnancy and beyond.

Treatment cost (procedure plus medicine) cost for a total of around $25,000.

Dr. Straub might be lacking a little in the bedside manner, but he is very straightforward and I can appreciate that. My husband, however, didn't like it very much. He could seem callous at times, but things get very emotional and you have to tone it down a little to get on with things. He is extremely intelligent and an excellent dr.

Dr. Straub is very smart and knows what he is doing. He may come off a little sharp, but he means well.

Egg retrieval used follistem, due to a big response, we froze the eggs/embryos for a frozen transfer. First frozen embryo transfer went great, positive test. Low BHcg, however. Saw/heard heartbeat at 6 weeks, 2 weeks later, no more heartbeat. D & C was done at 8 weeks. Did blood test to see if there was a clotting disorder with me and came back heterozygous factor V Leiden gene. Second transfer went great, again and added anticoagulant injections (heparin). First BHcg was a higher positive, 2nd Bhcg went down. Chemical pregnancy.

IVF is very expensive, but RBA does offer a military discount. 25% off for veterans and 50% off for active duty.

I live in NYC and used donor eggs at RBA. I actually dealt exclusively with Dr. Straub over the telephone and traveled to Atlanta for embryo transfers. Each time we spoke, I found him intelligent and compassionate and felt I had time devoted to me to have any questions answered.

If you live out of town, it is possible to do it all remotely if you have been through the IVF/embryo transfer process elsewhere.

I was pleased that Dr. Straub didn't mind when I requested not to have to go on birth control pills prior to the transfer protocol. He also suggested an alternative to progesterone injections (Crinone) that my other doctor wouldn't let me do. He was flexible after hearing what I liked and did not like about my other experience.

Since I used donor eggs, I felt that my success was different than if I was using my own 41-42 year old eggs and since I did not want twins, I was all for the single embryo transfer.

I didn’t see Dr Straub as much as I saw his nurse and nurse practitioner. The office always answered my calls and called me back in a timely manner. I did experience an ectopic pregnancy while under his care and his office was very sensitive about the situation. I loved the ultrasound tech, she always made me feel relaxed.

Do not hesitate to make an appointment and get started. Wish I had started sooner. 2/3 cycles ended up with a positive pregnancy test.

He believes I doing all baseline testing then coming up with a personalized plan. We started with clomid as I have PCOS. We did 2 cycles of monitored clomid, I had an ectopic then we moved on to femara. I am currently pregnant from my femara cycle.

Around $1000 per clomid/femara cycle including a trigger shot.

He was very personable, explained all our options. And what he thought would bring us the most success. When we had a scare he made sure to see us the following week to sit us down, and explain that they misread the ultrasound and that everything looked good.

To stay open minded that with every treatment there are different tests that have to be done before you can start. Stay patient. And take care of yourself

Dr. Straub is very direct and lacks a warm bedside manner. He even used the words "lousy" to describe my husbands semen sample at one time. While he is smart and knowledgeable, I often feel rushed when asking questions. My IUI and IVF attempts have been unsuccessful so far.

Be prepared to not have things sugar-coated.

He was very direct and explained every option and the rates at which each option would work. He gave us 3 different options and told us which one would work best if we wanted to conceive. He advised us to see a counselor as well to make sure we were on the correct path.

If you want a doctor who is blunt ans direct and will not sugar coat anything he is the guy.

We have not started IVF with donar eggs yet.

Very educated and felt very taken care of. Straub and his team were amazing to our family. Now we are a family of three after one doctor told us we would have to do sperm donor to even get pregnant. That wasn’t the case at all. First try and we were pregnant with our baby boy.

He was very good at explaining things. Very nice doctor and straightforward without being harsh. We liked how he drew things out to explain and answered all our questions. He wasn’t outwardly expressing that he was empathetic, but he also wasn’t showing that he had no empathy, he just acts more professional to fix the issue.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, he will answer and explain well if you are confused or need more information.

We had an initial appointment where he explained thoroughly what can cause infertility and the course of actions that can come from it. I went through bloodwork and an HSG test to make sure my tubes etc. we’re not blocked. My husband went through several sperm tests as well as bloodwork. He came back low each time, low enough that IUI seamed to not be favorable. He was recommended to a urologist to try to get an answer on why his sperm results were not ideal and try to fix the issue to try IUI.
