Dr. Thomas is a very serious and business-like Doctor, but she still does a great job of making sure her patients are cared for and helping them understand what their options are and the reasons for those options...I was able to get pregnant immediately after an HSG. This pregnancy was followed by a loss and, after healing, Dr. Thomas was set to start IVF with me. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has halted this process, but before it did, her office was very helpful and candid with every set of the process.
Things move really fast in this office [CARE Fertility] and that can be a little overwhelming. But, they are always willing to answer any questions you have and do their best to be compassionate. The parking situation is also terrible, so always get there super early...They only do clomid with an iui cycle, which is $1000 per cycle. IVF is $10,000 plus the cost of medication...The nursing staff always seems kind and helpful. They are always willing to help out over the phone or in person.
How was your experience with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
I was able to get pregnant immediately after an HSG. This pregnancy was followed by a loss and, after healing, Dr. Thomas was set to start IVF with me. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has halted this process, but before it did, her office was very helpful and candid with every set of the process. They have been extremely helpful both in the office and over the phone throughout all of this. They are still in weekly communication with me while this is going on. Dr. Thomas has always been thorough with her explanations of what needs to happen and what choices we have. The staff in the office is kind and helpful and careful with what they say and how they act. You can really tell they want to protect the hearts of patients struggling with infertility.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Be ready to act. She moves fast.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Dr. Thomas is a very serious and business-like Doctor, but she still does a great job of making sure her patients are cared for and helping them understand what their options are and the reasons for those options.
Describe the protocols Robin Thomas used in your cycles at CARE Fertility Texas and their degree of success.
I had an ultrasound to see egg count and my husband had his sperm tested. I also had a few blood draws to test if I was a genetic carrier for any major issues. I had a Hysteroscopy, which was pretty straight forward, and an HSG, which was incredibly painful and terrible (but I was able to get pregnant immediately after). After my pregnancy loss, I had a new consultation to start IVF, but it got cancelled due to COVID-19.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CARE Fertility Texas.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CARE Fertility Texas.
When the COVID-19 panic started, we were scheduled to come in for some testing and when we arrived, we were welcomed in, only to be told after waiting 20 minutes that our appointment had actually been cancelled because they were cancelling everything. We were understanding, but it was a little frustrating that they hadn’t called us before we came out.

My transfer was successful but I came down with OHSS. She [Dr. Thomas] scheduled me for daily checks until I turned the corner. She also made herself available and even called an ER doctor in the middle of the night to let them know I was coming and explain my condition and advise...takes the time to explain what is happening during appointments. I appreciate that she uses medical terms and explains them as needed...
[CARE Fertility] Strengths- 1. most lab results are provided the same day. 2. Calls are returned the same day. 3. Same day appointments are available if needed...Although you might see the doctor, you have to be okay with not seeing your physician at every visit (i.e. baselines etc.)...National guidelines are used to determine the number of embryos transferred...The nursing staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They return calls quickly to answer questions and address concerns.
How was your experience with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Dr. Thomas takes the time to explain what is happening during appointments. I appreciate that she uses medical terms and explains them as needed. I also appreciate that the doesn't give you a hard time for having a list of questions and concerns. She will answer them without making you feel small.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Don't be afraid to ask questions or present your concerns. CARE Fertility has more than one doctor, so you may see a different doctor on your retrieval day and transfer day. I did, but my cycle was still successful. The physicians that I've met (and the nurses) have been competent and friendly.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
She was closely involved during my IVF cycle. My transfer was successful but I came down with OHSS. She scheduled me for daily checks until I turned the corner. She also made herself available and even called an ER doctor in the middle of the night to let them know I was coming and explain my condition and advise. (It was the smoothest ER visit I've ever had). I recovered and we "graduated" to an OBGYN. unfortunately, I went into preterm labor because of cervical insufficiency. When I returned to Dr. Thomas, she ensured I had a referral to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and I could tell that she truly cared about our outcomes, for the next time we decided to try again. My husband and I appreciated her expertise and how she invested in us as a patient.
Describe the protocols Robin Thomas used in your cycles at CARE Fertility Texas and their degree of success.
National guidelines are used to determine the number of embryos transferred. They will provide those details to you prior to starting a cycle.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CARE Fertility Texas.
The nursing staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They return calls quickly to answer questions and address concerns. They refer to the doctor as needed/appropriate.
Describe your experience with CARE Fertility Texas.
Strengths- 1. most lab results are provided the same day. 2. Calls are returned the same day. 3. Same day appointments are available if needed. Weakness- 1. Kind of loud music in wait (may not be a bothersome for many). 2. Although you might see the doctor, you have to be okay with not seeing your physician at every visit (i.e. baselines etc.)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas.
It's hard to tell the total cost because I had reached my out of pocket max prior to my retrieval. So my medication, sonograms, appointments, labs, and procedures were covered at 100%. This year, I did have to pay $1k for the embryo thaw because my insurance wouldn't cover it.
Describe Robin Thomas's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CARE Fertility Texas.
I was accepting of the doctors approach for transfers. She offered to talk to us about concerns regarding the approach.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Thomas explained everything in detail to myself and husband. She worked quickly to get the answers we needed to move forward. She worked quickly through the (sometimes) painful procedures. She is compassionate, knowledgeable, and I would certainly recommend her to anyone. ... Dr. Thomas was very kind. ... Dr. Thomas used her knowledge and experience to decide the right plan of action for us. She took our history and diagnostic results to create a treatment plan that was right for us.
The front desk clerk [at CARE Fertility] can be a bit unfriendly at times. ... The nursing staff has been excellent. Our primary nurse has been organized, relatable, and very friendly. ... There was confusion with my insurance benefits, so we paid the $45 copay at each visit. However, the insurance did not cover everything the clinic expected so we received a bill (for diagnostic phase) around $700. The IUI (self pay, insurance does not cover any treatment options) will be about $1,000, with everything included. If we have to do IVF, (again self pay) will be about $10,000, with everything included. Their website is has everything listed out for cost and what is included with treatment options. Their staff was also very informative and answered any questions we had regarding finances and cost.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Know how quickly you want to work through the process. The diagnostic stage can take a bit of time waiting for results. The majority of the process is up to you on how quickly you make appointments, etc.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Dr. Thomas was very kind. She explained things well and worked as quickly as possible through the painful diagnostic procedures.
Describe the protocols Robin Thomas used in your cycles at CARE Fertility Texas and their degree of success.
We have not started the treatment process. However, our plan for moving forward is right on par for what we were expecting. Dr. Thomas used her knowledge and experience to decide the right plan of action for us. She took our history and diagnostic results to create a treatment plan that was right for us.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CARE Fertility Texas.
The nursing staff has been excellent. Our primary nurse has been organized, relatable, and very friendly.
Describe your experience with CARE Fertility Texas.
The front desk clerk can be a bit unfriendly at times. Our very first experience with the clinic, my obgyn had referred us at an appointment and recommended us walking over to see if we could set up an appointment. The clerk very shortly told us we’d have to fill out paperwork online before we could move forward. She made it very clear that we couldn’t get any information or move forward in any way until we had completed the information online. At a later date, I called to double check an appointment time and she gave me the wrong time. Her tone was as if she didn’t have the time to deal with such a stupid question (like, you should know what time your appt is so stop bothering me). In person, at the first visit, she was better. However, she isn’t a very good first impression for the clinic. Aside from her, everyone else has been very kind, friendly, and professional!

Describe Robin Thomas's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CARE Fertility Texas.
We talked briefly about this in our first visit/consultation. Her (and the clinic’s) approach is a single embryo transfer. We also asked about the chance of having multiples with IUI. She explained the risk of multiples has drastically dropped and there really isn’t much of a chance.

After our initial consultation [with Dr. Robin Thomas], we dove straight into testing. I’d previously done 3 medicated cycles with my OB and I had a feeling we had deeper rooted issues. After sharing this with DR Thomas, she understood our priorities laid in trying to get a diagnosis for our infertility so that we could be aggressive in tackling it. She suggested a number of test, all which played a key roll in giving us the diagnosis we were seeking...every time she’s walked in the room, she walks in with a demeanor that implies she recognizes who I am and what my story is.
The front office staff and staff that handles incoming calls [at CARE Fertility] have been nothing less than completely and utterly kind. It’s been obvious to me that the staff understands the sensitive subject of infertility and I feel they’ve gone out of their way to offer me comfort by the way of compassion...The only weakness, and I hesitate to call it that, is the fact that their doctors and nurses sub in the 2 offices run by the same group of doctors. Sometimes this means my drive for an appointment is longer due to having to go out further so that I can see my doctor specifically.
How was your experience with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
The number one reason I chose Dr Thomas was based on her reviews and Testimony’s that highlighted her ability to be compassionate. While I’m not looking for a doctor to sugarcoat diagnosis, I needed someone who would take a completely vulnerable and personal issue in my life and handle it with care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Not specific to Dr. Thomas, but for any fertility specialist. Go in knowing what questions to ask.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
I’ve recently left my OBGYN to see Dr. Thomas and while I’ve only seen her a handful of times, every time she’s walked in the room, she walks in with a demeanor that implies she recognizes who I am and what my story is.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
We are early in our process; she [Dr. Robin Thomas] recently gave me the option of full sedation for my hysteroscopy knowing I am busy and my schedule doesn’t allow much at work; this allowed her to look at my entire repro track and remove a uterine polyp we didn’t know was there. Typically she does this in the office and reschedules for anesthesia and removal at another time but she took into account my work schedule and allowed me to chose my treatment plan.
I love this clinic [CARE Fertility]. Before we were referred there, we did my HSG and my husband’s sperm analysis there and we always felt comfortable and well received. Once patients there, they have a “welcome” bag that has all sorts of goodies and other important information in it for therapists, etc... as they know dealing with this journey can be difficult...They’ve all been so friendly and helpful. They smile and hold your hand, laugh with you or comfort you when you’re upset. They make sure that you understand everything before you leave and if you don’t, they’re always super helpful.
How was your experience with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
I love her - my husband and I deal with difficult issues with humor and I’m not sure she’s comfortable with that, but she is a great communicator and takes the time to make sure everything is understood and all questions answered.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
She is really great - she may seem a little standoffish but she’s amazing once you build a relationship. She’s going to be aggressive when she needs to be to get you your family journey rolling.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
She understood that we were frustrated for trying for 2 years and no help from our OBGYN; we were looking for aggressive care to start our family and she made us feel understood.

My insurance covered most of it, but my hysteroscopy biopsy was not ($353) and we’re headed towards IUI at $1000/medicated, assisted insemination. My husband has tricare and he paid out of pocket for his DNA semen analysis $150

I truly felt Dr Thomas cared about the outcome of our procedures and tried hard to make them successful. She explored different options with us. She made sure that we understood what was happening and what would happen. During the procedures, she talked through them with us, letting us know each step that she was taking.... When our first two transfers didnt work, she tried testing to rule out reasons as to why they wouldn’t be working.
Extremely well put together and organized! Great clinic atmosphere! Good response time! Open on the weekends. One of my pregnancy tests was on a holiday, and while the result was negative, I was thankful I did not have to wait for Monday. I do wish they [CARE Fertility] had support groups and events to meet others going through Infertility.... A couple of times, especially after the failed IVF cycle, that I felt like “just a number” to one of the nurses.

Majority of the time, I felt like their was complete compassion. A couple of times, especially after the failed IVF cycle, that I felt like “just a number” to one of the nurses. However, that was just one nurse who might have been having a bad day. When I had to have an appointment every week, sometimes closer than that, the nurses worked to get me in and out because they knew I worked full time.

The first transfer and retrieval was around $9,000. Medications were around 2,000. Second and third transfer were 2,700 with about $500-$700 worth of meds.

  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Describe the specific things that went wrong at CARE Fertility Texas.
There was just one time where the medication protocol was not explained to me fully. I called to refill my medication and there wasn’t a refill. I had to call the clinic to fix the problem. Things happen, though.

She [Dr. Thomas] is nice but I don’t feel like I’m her focus when she is with me.... I did three frozen embryo transfers and nothing was changed each transfer. We did the same medications, same everything. Nothing changed. She wanted to do a 4th transfer without changing anything in my protocol....I didn’t feel like I was important. I felt like I was just another patient being seen that day, hurry up and get the sonogram over with.
I was never able to talk to the nurses [CARE Fertility - Bedford] on the first try. I always had to leave a message and have them call me back a day later....I was having bleeding during my frozen embryo transfer and I was telling the nurses about it and they told me that everything was fine. This was not being communicated with my doctor.... They lied on their documentation. I was having bleeding right before my embryo transfer and they charted that everything was normal and that I wasn’t having bleeding.

I did three frozen embryo transfers and nothing was changed each transfer. We did the same medications, same everything. Nothing changed. She is nice but I don’t feel like I’m her focus when she is with me. She always has an excuse for everything and always seems like she is distracted. I feel like I have wasted $20,000 at their clinic...

All three of my frozen embryo transfers included birth control for about 2 weeks, and then lupron injections, adding in estrogen pills (6mg/day) and then lastly progesterone 1ml/day. The highest my living ever got was 8mm and nothing was ever changed to help my lining be thicker. I had bleeding in my last two transfers, I was even bleeding 2 days before my embryo transfer and was told that it was normal. We transferred 1 embryo the first time, 1 embryo the second time, and 2 embryos the second time. None of which resulted in a pregnancy. My doctor wanted to do a 4th Transfer and wasn’t changing any of my medications or running any additional tests.

I was never able to talk with a nurse or the clinical coordinator when I called. You always have to leave a voice mail and mostly likely they will call back a day later. A strength is that I never had to wait long in the waiting room or in the exam room.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas.
Clinic fee of $7500 for IVF with $5300 additional cost for medications. Frozen embryo transfer cost of $2500 with $500-700 additional cost for medications.
Describe Robin Thomas's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CARE Fertility Texas.
They do not recommend doing multiple embryo transfers if you are young and have good quality embryos. However after two failed frozen embryo transfers, I was allowed to transfer 2 embryos for my third transfer.
What specific things went wrong at CARE Fertility Texas?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CARE Fertility Texas.
I was having bleeding during my frozen embryo transfer and I was telling the nurses about it and they told me that everything was fine. This was not being communicated with my doctor. After my third failed embryo transfer I asked my doctor if she knew about the bleeding. She didn’t know about it and told me that she would have canceled my transfer if she had known. So not only am I out thousands of dollars, 3 embryos lost, and countless hours spent driving to Fort Worth because things were not being communicated to my doctor.

Overall dr. Thomas has great bedside manner. I don't believe she knew enough about my condition to be able to really help us out. Her explanations were thorough however, when something worked she did not stick with it. I explained to her my concerns our last transfer and I felt I wasn't heard as I know my body. I knew I was starting my period and she didnt listen as well as a yeast infection uti spotting all right up until the day before transfer.
The clinic [CARE Fertility] really knows how to make you feel good in some aspect. They dont listen to you especially the head dr. The compassion is not there when you need it especially. There is a psychologist on site but you really have to push to talk to them. We weren't even offered the service after our miscarriage. They are all about the money and when is the next time they can get it. It definitely lacks compassion and team work.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Make sure that you always go with your gut and don't let your vulnerability get the best of you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
After each cycle was completed and failed even after miscarriage the first thing that was said is "when you are ready it's another x amount of money. Give us call then."
Describe the protocols Robin Thomas used in your cycles at CARE Fertility Texas and their degree of success.
Drug protocol 1st and 2nd time. Just estrace and progesterone. 1 by mouth and 2 vaginally. 2nd cycle ended in a pregnancy but miscarried shortly after. 3rd was lupron protocol which I disagree with. If it's not broke dont fix it kind of thing. The last protocol worked.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CARE Fertility Texas.
It was hit and miss with each nurse. Never had the same one.

Describe Robin Thomas's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CARE Fertility Texas.
She wouldn't let me transfer my last 3 embryos as they were all unfrozen day of transfer due to a mix up.
What specific things went wrong at CARE Fertility Texas?
  • Lost appointments
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Failed to send your chart to another clinic
  • Failed to inform you of changes in protocol
  • Lost results
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to consider drug intolerance
  • Lost or damaged samples
  • Canceled a cycle due to clinic error
Describe the specific things that went wrong at CARE Fertility Texas.
Day of my last transfer I was planning on transferring 2. I received a phone call while I was on my volume and was told that 1 of my embryos did not survive. After going to the clinic to get ready to transfer my embryos they informed me that it did survive in all my embryos were thawer out but some were not great quality. So therefore I had 4 embryos I could not transfer I could only transfer to. They were not kind about it. Also the protocol that was used in my last cycle I don't think was the appropriate protocol and I describe that to my doctor and she didn't listen. I knew I had ovulated many weeks before transfer and they told me that I was making it out. Then I started spotting like I normally would when I start my period. She described it it was just irritation however that was not the case. 2 days after I transferred I started my full flow period.

Dr Thomas was kind and very knowledgeable. Although our IVF was unsuccessful she did explain the risk of moving forward with only 2 follicles. I was unhappy that she did not call ahead of time to notify us that the 1 embryo did not make it to day 5. We drove 2 hours just to be told we had nothing to transfer. It felt insensitive given the drive home was tearful and extremely emotional.... Lupron Flare protocol for low amh & high fsh. We used gonal f but not sure of the dosage.
Original the clinic [CARE Fertility] was pleasant especially Ft Worth location. Once they seemed to be pushing Effortless IVF it became so busy especially in the Bedford location it felt we were cattle. They herded you in and out as quickly as possible. We were much happier in the beginning.... When inquiring on the donor program we got different information more than once. And most importantly they never mentioned not having any Caucasian donors at the time until after we paid a $1500 non refundable fee. Once I brought it to their attention they said it was non refundable. I had to throw a fit to get a call back and eventually a refund.

As with any medical treatments be your own advocate. Dr Thomas seemed to not have much say other than exactly what was set out by the medical director. They have strict day 5 only transfers and will not budge, regardless of how many embryos you have.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas?
Dr Thomas was very kind and spent a lot of time explaining my diagnosis and our options.

Dr. Thomas is caring and honest and does her best to get us the right treatment. It takes a little time for her to warm up and comes off as too "clinical" in the beginning. However, she knows what she's doing and does pay attention to your concerns and tries to address them....Don't expect a warm, bubbly doctor but she's a professional who has experienced a lot of success and we've learned to trust her...I had no overt issues that would prevent pregnancy so we started with unmedicated IUI. Three attempts were unsuccessful so we proceeded to Chlomid with IUI.
[CARE] Strength: appointment availability, nursing staff, 2 locations, good reputation Weakness: IVF coordinator seems too busy. After months of already working with the clinic and having excellent response, we have not found the same to be true when pursuing IVF...We have only had one instance of misinformation- a nurse miscommunicated regarding two procedures and the timing that they would occur...he nurses at CAR have helped to make the process easier and there are several that we look forward to seeing at our many appointments.

Dr. Thomas is caring, listens well and answers questions.
Describe the protocols Robin Thomas used in your cycles at CARE Fertility Texas and their degree of success.
When starting, I had no overt issues that would prevent pregnancy so we started with unmedicated IUI. Three attempts were unsuccessful so we proceeded to Chlomid with IUI. Three attempts were again unsuccessful so she advised moving on to another protocol. We then tried a medicated round with injectables. While I had a significant response to the medication, it was so much so that Dr. Thomas advised that we not pursue additional rounds with this protocol as the response we saw could present additional risks. At this time, the recommendation from Dr. Thomas has been to pursue IVF. During each cycle, we were assertive and asked lots of questions. We would recommend that others do the same to get a full understanding of the possible outcomes and next steps.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CARE Fertility Texas.
We never envisioned that we would spend so much time at our clinic, before we began this process. The nurses at CAR have helped to make the process easier and there are several that we look forward to seeing at our many appointments.
Describe your experience with CARE Fertility Texas.
We don't have another clinic experience to compare to, however we have seen the following: Strength: appointment availability, nursing staff, 2 locations, good reputation Weakness: IVF coordinator seems too busy. After months of already working with the clinic and having excellent response, we have not found the same to be true when pursuing IVF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Robin Thomas at CARE Fertility Texas.
Each cycle we have two major cost categories: Clinic costs which were all inclusive of the clinic resources required for that protocol (ie. sonograms, monitoring visits, blood work, IUI), and our drug costs. We liked that the clinic costs for each cycle were all inclusive and that we were not having to pay by the visit.
Describe Robin Thomas's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CARE Fertility Texas.
We understand that Dr. Thomas follows the recommendations from SART for embryo transfer count.

While the initial visit with Dr. Thomas was nothing earth shattering, subsequent visits were very warm and considerate. She was very careful to explain exactly what each procedure would involved and what might be uncomfortable versus what was no big deal.... She might take a visit or two to warm up, but is very considerate and compassionate on follow up visits... Clomid/IUI didn’t work for us after 3 cylces and so Dr. Thomas recommended moving straight to IVF. We are just starting IVF treatment this week.
I love going to the Fort Worth office [CARE Fertility] because it’s nearer to my house. But it also feels like a smaller and more intimate clinic. The Bedford clinic is so large that it feels a bit more impersonal. The Fort Worth drawbacks are definitely parking and that it’s closed on weekends.... For my first IUI cycle, the pharmacy did not receive the trigger shot prescription. I had time to spare so it didn’t end up being an issue.
