My first consult [with Dr. Salih] was virtual which was fine, but I met her in the office later on and she described everything thoroughly. I wasn’t expecting to be there quite so long though but I appreciate her desire to be thorough...If you have a question for the doctor come prepared to ask it at your first appointment with her. The majority of my interactions were with the nurse and ultrasound techs...
The reproductive endocrinology clinic [University of Illinois at Chicago] is down the hallway from the ob/GYN clinic. Sometimes they close the ER wait room and direct people down the hall to the ob/GYN clinic. If I were struggling with infertility I think it would be hard to share a room with lots of pregnant women....$7110.00 for all ultrasound, blood work, and procedure done under sedation. Another $2000 approximately for prescriptions, some of which I didn’t use....

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sana Salih at University of Illinois at Chicago?
I went in for an ultrasound on a Saturday and she called me back into her office to discuss my risk for OHSS at great length and she also alerted me that I probably will have someone pushing down on my abdomen during the procedure because of where my ovary was positioned.
Describe the protocols Sana Salih used in your cycles at University of Illinois at Chicago and their degree of success.
I have PCOS so she prescribed low doses.Month prior to retrieval I was on ordinary prenatal vitamins from CVS; Aygestin 2 tablets daily as primer; Metformin 500 mg 3x/day; folic acid 1 Mg; ovasitol inositol powder twice a day (actually suggested by doc...I thought it was woo woo, but I took it). Day 1 - 8 of stimulation Menopur 75 IU; Gonal F 125 IU (Ganirelix 250 mcg day 6) Day 9-10 of stimulation Menopur 75 IU; Gonal F 100 IU Day 11 - Lupron trigger 100 units.
Describe your experience with your nurse at University of Illinois at Chicago. (Assigned nurse: Joy)
They were always kind and prompt. I had a snafu with the pharmacy in terms of billing that she helped resolve. She also showed me how to inject myself and was in the room during my transfer. It was nice having a familiar face in the room.

Completely out of pocket. $7110.00 for all ultrasound, blood work, and procedure done under sedation. Another $2000 approximately for prescriptions, some of which I didn’t use.
Describe Sana Salih's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at University of Illinois at Chicago.
She said they’d only transfer embryos based on the age I was at retrieval, so it would always only be one at a time.

She [Dr. Shalih] was very pleasant and compassionate each time, however she didn't communicate well and never explained each step well or as to why we were doing it. I did like the fact that I saw her each visit and for my procedure. After my failed IUI she didn't seem bothered and basically said let's do it again. We didn't like that approach at all.... I did clomid on it's own 3 times first days 3-7 which resulted in failed cycles. Then for our IUI, we were on 75 of Gonal F
It's a small office [RMA of Philadelphia] and I was seen super quickly and by my doctor- this I loved! But the receptionist was not pleasant or friendly to me at all which made it a little awkward. They always took me on time though which was another plus... The nurse practioner, Melissa was not pleasant at all and quite rude when I had questions about the injections. It was overwhelming to feel stupid for having questions when dealing with infertility itself is already such a tough thing.

I did clomid on it's own 3 times first days 3-7 which resulted in failed cycles. Then for our IUI, we were on 75 of Gonal F, 100mg clomid and did the trigger shot. We went in every other day for monitoring
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Pennsylvania. (Assigned nurse: Melissa )
When explaining the injections she rushed through the directions and when I asked her to repeat, she was quite rude and confused why I didn't get it. Very bad experience.

Clomid was cheap with our insurance but for the IUI package insurance covered nothing so we spent a total of about 2300$ for that cycle

The nurse practioner, Melissa was not pleasant at all and quite rude when I had questions about the injections. It was overwhelming to feel stupid for having questions when dealing with infertility itself is already such a tough thing. She wasn't understanding or compassionate at all. The receptionist wasn't particularly friendly either which was a shame. Lastly, our doctor just didn't communicate well at all and some vital info wasn't told to us until much later

Sometimes I felt rushed during the appointments - that was hard to experience. I had so many questions and felt like I didn't get the chance to ask what I needed. Dr. Shalih was compassionate, but sometimes I felt like she was too busy to slow down and talk with me.... I did an egg retrieval and FET with Dr. Shalih. This included hormones, injectables and many clinic visits. My husband had a reverse vascectomy that failed, so the only way we were able to get pregnant was through IVF.
[Gunderson Fertility Center is] Very organized!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was extremely important to me as a Type A communicator. I never had any questions after speaking with the nurses about my treatment protocol. That was such a gift to me.... The nursing staff was outstanding. They treated me like a family member and it was very hard to say goodbye to them all when the clinic closed.... $25K for the entire IVF process (included 2 transfers)
