Dr. Babcock is wonderful and patient at answering all of my questions...I've requested a few phone and video visits with her to review next steps and results and she was available and answered all of my questions patiently. I feel like I have an advocate while going through treatments...I also appreciate that she is optimistic..
I have had a lot of frustrations at this [NCFMC] clinic, particularly with the support staff. I sometimes feel like the communication is poor. For instance, I was told my first IUI would need to be delayed because they did not request my records from my outside clinic more than 2 weeks prior to my cycle start. The ball has been dropped a few times...First cycle of IUI was $13,900 excluding meds and genetic testing without ICSI.

I feel very fortunate to be a patient of Dr. Babcock. She is extremely patient and kind while still being straightforward. I appreciate her optimism at each visit and her candor in discussing next steps. I've requested a few phone and video visits with her to review next steps and results and she was available and answered all of my questions patiently. I feel like I have an advocate while going through treatments.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Babcock Gilbert at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
Dr. Babcock is wonderful and patient at answering all of my questions. I've requested a number of phone appointments and she is always very responsive and straightforward in answering my questions. I also appreciate that she is optimistic!
Describe the protocols Sara Babcock Gilbert used in your cycles at Northern California Fertility Medical Center and their degree of success.
I did IUI 4 times (one was more as a salvage after a cancelled IUI), 3 were with Clomid. I used Clomid 50mg each cycle and always responded. I had one chemical pregnancy and the other IUIs were not successful. I tried one cycle of IVF with injectable gonadatropins, but I had a very poor response to Gonal-F 225 and Menopur 75. This was unexpected with my AMH and AFC. The cycle was unfortunately cancelled.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Northern California Fertility Medical Center. (Assigned nurse: Susan Pearson, RN)
Susan, my nurse coordinator, is WONDERFUL. She is incredibly responsive and patient. Susan treats me with kindness and respect and I feel like she is my advocate.
Describe your experience with Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
I have had a lot of frustrations at this clinic, particularly with the support staff. I sometimes feel like the communication is poor. For instance, I was told my first IUI would need to be delayed because they did not request my records from my outside clinic more than 2 weeks prior to my cycle start. The ball has been dropped a few times. It's also hard to get in touch with someone in a timely manner when you are not an IVF patient which can be frustrating. The patient portal has a lot of drawbacks (i.e. you can't respond to a message or message your physician) but it's overall functional.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Babcock Gilbert at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
Things are on the expensive side- IUI is $550 and follicle ultrasounds prior to IUI are $425. Initial consult was $250 but I think the price has increased. First cycle of IUI was $13,900 excluding meds and genetic testing without ICSI.
What specific things went wrong at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Lost paperwork
  • Failed to send your chart to another clinic
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
When I was a new patient at this clinic, I signed a record release for my prior labs/workup from my clinic in a different city. I was not given instructions/follow up after my initial consult and just told to call on cycle day 1. When I called, no one had requested records and I was told that they could not start me on Clomid because they did not have the appropriate labs. Needless to say I was extremely upset and had to escalate the situation to a managerial level. I was told this was due to staff shortages and new trainees. I also have had prescriptions not sent to my pharmacy when I was told they were being sent over, resulting in calls/messages. Things just sometimes require more effort than I feel they should.

I was having surgery to remove stage IV endometriosis...[Dr. Gilbert] also wanted to schedule a cavity examination to see if there was anything that could potentially be a barrier for implantation...if there was anything that needed to be removed, it could be done all at once so I didn’t have to go under anesthesia twice and surgery twice...assured me she was very good at what she does and made me feel at ease with the potential plan.
treated with the utmost respect and dignity throughout this process. The clinic [Kaiser Permanente Sacramento] made my husband feel very included and always asked if he had any questions...made it a point to accommodate his schedule when scheduling my egg retrieval...gave us privacy when we needed to discuss some options pertaining to our embryos...[Dr. Gilbert] Seems like a great doctor to be on my side...
How was your experience with Sara Babcock Gilbert at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Dr. Gilbert’s strength is that she is a great listener and makes sure your concerns are heard and understood. I have only met with her once because my primary fertility doc left her practice. She transferred care to Dr. Gilbert who plans on doing my FET. The experience that I had with her so far is great. She was pregnant when I had my consultation, my plan was to do a transfer 2 months after my 3rd endometriosis surgery. She was open with me that she would be on maternity leave but explained her colleague could do the transfer but she would be in charge of my protocol. She assured me she was very good at what she does and made me feel at ease with the potential plan.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Babcock Gilbert at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
To ask as many questions and/or concerns you have because she will listen and take what you say into account.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Babcock Gilbert at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Dr. Gilbert was very friendly and had great bedside manner. She explained what her plan was moving forward with a transfer and showed me my embryo grades. She asked me if I had any questions or concerns and could contact her anytime. Seems like a great doctor to be on my side.
Describe the protocols Sara Babcock Gilbert used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
I only consulted with Dr. Gilbert, but she explained to me what her protocol plan was for me. Since I was having surgery to remove stage IV endometriosis, she said i needed to be on birth control for those few weeks of healing before my protocol started so that we could keep the estrogen down. She also wanted to schedule a cavity examination to see if there was anything that could potentially be a barrier for implantation. She actually wanted to do this before my surgery so that if there was anything that needed to be removed, it could be done all at once so I didn’t have to go under anesthesia twice and surgery twice. She seems like she truly cares about her patients. I found her suggestion helpful and logical.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento. (Assigned nurse: Monica Coltharp)
We have worked with Monica from the beginning and she is amazing. My husband is a police officer and she made it a point to accommodate his schedule when scheduling my egg retrieval. She thanked him for his service and was very nice. Monica made a point to be clear on all paper work and gave us privacy when we needed to discuss some options pertaining to our embryos Incase of death. Monica was amazing.
Describe your experience with Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
I don’t have any weaknesses with the clinic so far. I have had an amazing experience with this clinic and all staff. I have truly felt like my husband and I have been treated with the utmost respect and dignity throughout this process. The clinic made my husband feel very included and always asked if he had any questions. I absolutely have nothing bad to say about this clinic so far.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Babcock Gilbert at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
$4300 was the estimate they gave me for the transfer and meds. She was open with me that depending on the medication costs, could be more or less.
Describe Sara Babcock Gilbert's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
In the clinic I attend, they only do eSET’s unless your over a certain age. Since I am only 33, she told me she would only do 1 embryo at a time.

Doctor Sara is very thorough with explaining all aspects of infertility. I haven’t had too much time with her. Mainly her NPs. But I am looking forward to continue under her care. I have never felt uncared for, and all my questions and concerns are always answered. ... After my consultations I was started with as many as 6 medicated cycles along with my IUI for my last medicated cycle. I conceived on my first round but sadly ended in a miscarriage.
The strength for this clinic [Kaiser Permanente] is high. I honestly have no bad experiences here. They are all so nice and I would refer anyone here. ... I always felt so loved, welcomed and cared for at this clinic. I obviously haven’t received my ultimate want yet but I know through their care I have the best odds ...

Describe the protocols Sara Babcock Gilbert used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
After my consultations I was started with as many as 6 medicated cycles along with my IUI for my last medicated cycle. I conceived on my first round but sadly ended in a miscarriage. As I continued on I was closely monitored through my cycles with ultra sounds along with urine and pregnancy tests before my appointments. They were cautious with medications and I know did they best they could. I am now continuing on with IVF.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento. (Assigned nurse: NP Sharma NP Cookingham )
I saw NP Sharma the most at this clinic. I truly have so many kind words for her. She was very compassionate , explained everything very well and always made me feel like a friend and not just an infertility patient. I had many questions throughout my treatments there and I always was responded to in a timely manner. I honestly enjoy seeing the many nurses and have never had a bad experience; from the front desk to MD
Describe your experience with Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
The strength for this clinic is high. I honestly have no bad experiences here. They are all so nice and I would refer anyone here. Besides not getting a baby yet, and the clinic being a little far from home. I have no weaknesses to share.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Babcock Gilbert at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
I don’t have an exact number through the years but infertility is never cheap.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Very nice and compassionate doctor [Dr. Sara Babcock Gilbert]. Really tries to understand the whole picture...One of the most nicest and compassionate doc there. When I had my first transfer, I had a missed miscarriage. I was in a lot of pain and she sent me to the ER but I didn’t have a ride. I had to call a family member who was 20 min away and she had her nurse stay on the phone with me till they came to get me. Then she had me call her once I got to the ER to ensure I got there ok. She was worried I had an ectopic pregnancy. I will never forget that.
I love this clinic [Kaiser Permanente Sacramento]. Easy to get to and they are very quick to get the ball rolling on your treatment plans. A patients just needs to be honest with the docs and they can treat you accordingly. I haven’t had a bad experience yet with this clinic. I love that they have felt like home...All nurses are very nice and get back to you very quickly...Very nice and compassionate doctor. Really tries to understand the whole picture.
