Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Sara Barton is one of the most kind and compassionate doctors...provide the utmost care when I experienced a very long, painful and almost emergency situation regarding my miscarriage...she would recommend only transferring a single embryo...always willing to take the extra time to talk about what I'm experiencing and answers all of my questions thoroughly
Becca is the greatest nurse I could have hoped for. She has the brightest personality and positive attitude, every single time I see her...you're able to do routine appointments at any location (Denver, Louisville, Lone Tree)...work seamlessly together...no doubt pay a premium price at CCRM, but in return you receive absolute premium care
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Dr. Sara Barton is one of the most kind and compassionate doctors I've ever worked with. She sincerely cares about her patients and truly wants to see us succeed in building a family. She's always willing to take the extra time to talk about what I'm experiencing and answers all of my questions thoroughly. She's never pressured my husband and I to move forward with a procedure until we we're ready. She sets a perfect balance of being candid and honest, but also warm and compassionate. It's very apparent how dedicated she is to her work. No matter what our ultimate outcome is at CCRM, I would highly recommend the clinic and Dr. Barton to anyone facing the infertility battle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Make sure to ask ALL the questions, whether they feel silly or insignificant. Always double check medication instructions/dosages with your nurses while going through the IUI or IVF process. It can be complicated and overwhelming, but everyone at the clinic is there to help and support you!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
She's gone out of her way on several occasions to provide the utmost care when I experienced a very long, painful and almost emergency situation regarding my miscarriage. The care she provides is exceptional and she truly makes you feel as if you're her only patient in the world. She dedicates all of herself to her practice and patients.
Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
I've completed 4 IUI cycles with Clomid. The first 3 cycles were unsuccessful, but the 4th cycle ended in pregnancy. However, I miscarried at 10 weeks (undetermined reason, most likely chromosome error). After the 4 IUIs we decided to move on to IVF. For my first egg retrieval cycle, it was a mid-luteal estrogen patch priming - antagonist cycle. I have a mild case of diminished ovarian reserve and 5 eggs were retrieved. 3 successfully fertilized and made it to day 5 (1) and day 7 (2) blastocysts, to be biopsied for CCS testing and frozen. All 3 embryos came back from genetic testing as euploid. They've been graded as 3AA (day 5), 5AA and 3BB (both day 7s). I'll begin a second retrieval cycle next month in hopes of better results! The new medication protocol will be a luteal oral estrogen priming - extended Clomid cycle.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Becca)
Becca is the greatest nurse I could have hoped for. She has the brightest personality and positive attitude, every single time I see her. This is very much appreciated when the fertility process can be so stressful, emotional and frankly scary. She always takes the extra time to thoroughly explain steps in a process or give medication instructions. I know I can call her any day of the week to confirm appointments, answer questions or simply talk to about my experience. Truth be told, all of the nursing staff, technicians and front office staff have been a delight to work with, from financials to scheduling to blood work and ultrasounds. CCRM empowers their patients and provides exceptional care.
Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
A huge plus is that you're able to do routine appointments at any location (Denver, Louisville, Lone Tree) which is very helpful as I live in Denver, but work 15 away from Louisville. All three clinics work seamlessly together, so there's no worry about the back and forth between offices. They're very upfront about costs, which is typically one of the first questions a patient has. You no doubt pay a premium price at CCRM, but in return you receive absolute premium care. The financial team takes care of answering insurance benefit questions if you're billing through insurance and they offer discounts if you choose not to go through your insurance/you don't have fertility coverage. The scheduling team is great at getting you in to see the doctor or for routine appointments on time (depending on your treatment you may find yourself in the clinic frequently).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
IUI - cost approximately $2000-2500 before my co-insurance kicked in. After insurance I paid a 40% co-insurance. IVF (included egg retrival, egg transfer, CCS testing and embryo freezing) - cost approximately $21,500. Blast Banking (included second egg retrieval, CCS testing and embryo freezing) - cost approximately $17,300.
Describe Sara Barton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CCRM Colorado.
Dr. Barton educated us on why she would recommend only transferring a single embryo when it's time for our first transfer, given our young age and health.

Dr. Barton was no available when we needed to discuss timely, cycle-related information. She did not incorporate new data on the fly as the cycle progressed. She was inaccessible and formulaic, in a way which was detrimental to our cycle...Dr. Barton treated us like we were on a conveyor belt, not considering our individual data or adjusting to new information...she will want to use generic, standard strategies on you first rather than understanding your full case and individualizing your care.
CCRM is a very high volume clinic, so their service is extremely formulaic, and aimed at speed and efficiency. They also have many available branches, which is nice for scheduling, however your Doctor will not be available to discuss results with you for months and months after procedures. This introduces a lot of delays into your timeline, as you may be waiting months just to have a phone call before you can start a new cycle.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
We'd already done several very successful retrievals at another clinic before moving to Colorado and transferring to Dr. Barton's care for our final retrieval. We asked Dr. Barton to follow the previous protocol, since they worked so well. However she objected to deviating from the "standard protocol for your age" despite it being nearly double the medication level we'd previously had success on. As the cycle progressed, it was clear by day 5 that the my follicles were growing far too quickly, but Dr. Barton still did not adjust the medication amount down. In the end, we were triggered early and got a quarter the number of eggs we'd had in our prior retrievals. Dr. Barton treated us like we were on a conveyor belt, not considering our individual data or adjusting to new information.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
If you are coming to Dr. Barton midway on your journey, consider that she will want to use generic, standard strategies on you first rather than understanding your full case and individualizing your care.

Your feelings are valid, your confusion is okay and you are not alone in this journey. Ask questions, talk to people who have been through it before, and remember that you're so strong for putting your body and your mind through this.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Dr. Barton was so kind and empathetic from day one. I had seen a previous doctor that just stared at me when I cried about my infertility. Dr. Barton was understanding, compassionate, and assured me that my husband and I would be okay. I wish COVID wasn't a thing because I would've hugged her 30000 times by now, I'm crying even thinking about how much I appreciate her as a practitioner and as a human - even though we've only spoken a total of 6 times. Nobody wants to go through IVF, but if I had to do it over again I would only do it with Dr. Barton.
Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
Went on birth control before starting meds prior to my egg retrieval, this is to make sure they can regulate your period and track your cycle more concisely. Then two weeks leading up to the retrieval I had to administer different shots in my stomach up to three times a day to trick my body into producing as many eggs at once as possible. Cetrotide specifically burned when it went in, can't remember the names of the others but there were three different meds. Leading up to the embryo transfer, you start vaginal meds (endrometrin) up to three times per day, patches on your skin, and projesterone oil shots in your butt. After the transfer, the three medicines were continued for two months. It helps to warm the projesterone oil up with a heating pad before you inject it, and it's best to have someone else administer the shot.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Kate)
Our primary nurse was out of the office for the first few weeks we started out at CCRM. We didn't ask where she was, but we ended up getting passed around a bit in the beginning. There were also issues with our insurance agency coverage, but Ruby was helpful in solving that issue. At one point, we were loaned medicine from CCRM because of the insurance miscommunication. Our nurse Kate was extremely understanding and helpful, but when we talked to Molly (who didn't know our situation) she inferred that we were potentially taking meds away from cancer patients - which was uncomfortable to hear after we were assured from Kate that this wasn't the case.
Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
Clinic was clean, everyone was spaced apart appropriately during COVID. You got a call back 95% of the time when it was expected, sometimes I had to follow up the next day because a nurse thought I got my question answered. Responses were incredibly timely through their online portal.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
Total was roughly $13k for CCRM services. Medicine was $300. Our insurance covered a lot of the meds.
Describe Sara Barton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CCRM Colorado.
Dr. Barton said it was safer to just transfer one at a time (for both the baby and the mother). We had no issue just putting one embryo in.

I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Sara Barton...and I am so grateful that I did! She was kind, understanding, and professional. She listened to my experience, had me get retested at CCRM to confirm my AMH (1.3)and FSH (10.5) #s, and walked me through all the possibilities with egg harvesting - both good and bad. I made the decision to go through the egg harvesting process in February and was able to freeze more eggs than I expected (11!). Throughout the entire experience, I felt super supported by the entire CCRM staff, especially my assigned nurse, Britney, who was available via phone or email any time I had a question (and I had quite a few!). Definitely recommend to anyone who wants the best of the best helping them in their fertility journey.

Be honest and open!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I had the best experience at CCRM. In July of last year, I went to a different endocrinologist who gave me a pretty bleak fertility outlook and who presented the news in a very unprofessional manner. After grieving for a few weeks, I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Sara Barton at CCRM, and I am so grateful that I did! She was kind, understanding, and professional. Success w/ Doc Too early to know
My doctor personally called me after getting the negative pregnancy test after our first IVF transfer. She has made me feel hopeful and we look forward to our next transfer. ... Dr. Barton has been compassionate and always answered all concerns and questions. ... We did three IUIs and with each IUI my clomid doses were increased as my eggs were not maturing fast enough.
The ladies [at CCRM Colorado] who schedule appointments are really helpful and even learn the patients names which always makes me feel like I matter. They are always able to work with my schedule and get me in to the early appointments so I can make it to work. ... My nurse is very helpful and is quick to answer all questions and concerns. She was able to move around my schedule to accommodate my cycle that is a shorter luteal phase. Then, I misread my calendar and she worked with my doctor to get my schedule back on track so I didn’t need to skip a month.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
It’s been tough not knowing why we aren’t getting pregnant, but Dr. Barton has been compassionate and always answered all concerns and questions. We didn’t have her for the transfer or the egg retrieval, but the other doctor was positive and had great bedside manner.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Make sure to have all your questions written down. I would forget things I wanted to ask the doctor later after we had just seen her. I could always ask the nurse through email or my next appointment.

We did three IUIs and with each IUI my clomid doses were increased as my eggs were not maturing fast enough. Then, we decided to move to IFV. Again, we increased my dosage of medication to extract more eggs. We got 16, but only three matured for our fresh transfer.

We liked that we got to talk to her [Dr. Sara Barton] directly about test results and make plans with her directly instead of a nurse. I never felt rushed in our meetings and she always made me feel at ease and hopeful at the end of our conversations...I had a hysteroscopy to clear the scar tissue from my uterus. After the surgery I had a balloon in my uterus for a week to prevent reoccurring scar tissue. I was on estrogen for 30 days and progesterone for the last ten of that 30 day period following the surgery.
The initial tests for my husband and I were around $3k total [at CCRM Colorado]. The surgery and pills were around $5k. The pregnancy tracking and ultrasounds were around $200 a visit for the first two visits and $400 for the final visit...The clinic is beautiful, welcoming, and comfortable. All of the staff is wonderful. I felt like they were always using the newest, best equipment, which made me feel very comfortable. The only weakness I would give CCRM would be their high prices, but I guess I can't fault them for charging higher prices than most since they provide such exemplary care. I have never recieved such wonderful healthcare.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
We saw another RE before going to Dr. Barton at CCRM that ran some blood tests, led me through failed Clomid trials, and then wanted to start IVF treatments. Since we didn’t feel like the first RE was very through, and knowing that CCRM has the best IVF success rates, we decided to start over with CCRM. Dr. Barton began by running much more through tests and immediately found the issue – my uterus was filled with scar tissue from my c-section and therefore I couldn’t get pregnant. Dr. Barton performed a surgery to clear the scar tissue in their beautiful surgery center and I got pregnant naturally months later. We liked that we got to talk to her directly about test results and make plans with her directly instead of a nurse. I never felt rushed in our meetings and she always made me feel at ease and hopeful at the end of our conversations.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Don't go to anyone else first and waste your time - start with Dr. Barton. She is smart, kind, and capable and will help you achieve success.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Dr. Barton took the time to explain every detail of every procedure and every diagnosis with me. She also explained everything with care and empathy. I felt like I understood what was going on, which helped me feel empowered.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Barton was very clear and took time to answer questions. She outlined different treatment options so that we could make decisions about how to proceed. She comes across as very knowledgeable of recent studies and best practices.... Our first attempt was with a fairly aggressive protocol, but I had a poor response and the cycle was cancelled. Dr. Barton changed the protocol for the next attempt, and it was more successful.
CCRM is large, but everyone from the receptionist to the nurse recognized us when we walked in. All the people we interacted with were friendly, patient, and compassionate.... CCRM has great results, but I wouldn't consider them patient-centered. They have quite a few rigid policies about things that do not allow for patient input. For example, some clinics will work with patients to decide together about visiting family in Zika zones and taking precautions

CCRM is large, but everyone from the receptionist to the nurse recognized us when we walked in. All the people we interacted with were friendly, patient, and compassionate.
Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
Our first attempt was with a fairly aggressive protocol, but I had a poor response and the cycle was cancelled. Dr. Barton changed the protocol for the next attempt, and it was more successful.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado.
We interacted with several nurses, including our main nurse. All were friendly and helpful, but they tended to report test results as "fine" instead of giving specifics numeric results.
Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
CCRM has great results, but I wouldn't consider them patient-centered. They have quite a few rigid policies about things that do not allow for patient input. For example, some clinics will work with patients to decide together about visiting family in Zika zones and taking precautions; CCRM has a rigid policy that forbids treatment within so many months of a visit.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
CCRM has a discount for Colorado residents and is also part of a discount program with United.
Describe Sara Barton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CCRM Colorado.
CCRM follows ASRM guidelines for embryo transfer based on age and PGS testing. The lengthy consent form we went over with the nurse covered these limits.

I can to Dr. Barton struggling to conceive had a uterine polyp removed and suffered one loss. We started with a variety of tests on my husband and myself. No explanation could be reached from all of the tests. We decided to move forward with an IUI treatment and we got pregnant. Unfortunately at 6 weeks there was no “yolk” found in the sac on our ultrasound. We suffered another loss. Dr. Barton said she’d be willing to try another round of IUI, but due to our history IVF would lessen our chances of a loss greatly. We moved forward with a round of IVF. We did an egg retrieval with PGS testing as we had come to the conclusion that genetics were a factor.
All of the office staff at CCRM - Louisville are awesome! It’s a small clinic and they know me simply by my name when I visit or call. They are friendly, kind and caring and have always been professional.... Carolyn [a nurse] works part time but I would have never known because her colleagues were always able to pickup where she had left off. She must have impeccable notes.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
We began working with Dr. Barton when she was at an office close to us and since then doesn’t visit that office, so we drive a little farther. It is completely worth it. Her nurses are awesome and even over the phone, Dr. Barton is able to communicate clearly and effectively and shows us that she really cares. Dr. Barton is compassionate but has always given us all the information and has been straight forward.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Best of luck with everything! You’re in great hands!

We did an egg retrieval with PGS testing as we had come to the conclusion that genetics were a factor. We retrieved 14 eggs, 5 embryos made it to blastocyst and 3 were genetically typical. We did an FET with our top embryo and while we got a positive Beta, this FET ended in a chemical pregnancy. Moving forward Dr. Barton is suggesting we follow a antihistamine protocol. We were in the very beginning stages when in an ultrasound they found a polyp in my uterus. So frustrating but I’m so glad they found it before it was too late. I’m planning on getting it removed and starting again! Dr. Barton has been honest with us through this entire process and we are looking forward to taking these next steps with her.

Our insurance paid partially for our IUI and didn’t cover any of our IVF cycle. I don’t recall what the out of pocket costs were for IUI, for IVF including an FET the cost was around $21,000 without medication.

Dr. Barton suggested we transfer 1 embryo, but she would have been open to discussion.

At first I wasn't entirely sure how the process would go because Dr. Barton began by spending most of her time managing expectations/verging on discouraging me. ... And she really took seriously my past history with autoimmune disease and extreme sensitivity to hormones in the past. ... She really advocated for me, whether that was regarding lab use of donor sperm or by retrieving a very small number of eggs.
They [CCRM Colorado] messed up a number of things for me during my IUI cycles (and didn't let me know when my referral was no longer valid, even though I had no other way of knowing that it had expired). So I ended up paying for two full IUIs when I was entitled to an insurance discount. ... The main challenge with this was not the lack of knowing about certain circumstances I discussed, but that she didn't always admit that she didn't know, and just gave me inaccurate information (which I would have to double-check later, and sometimes it didn't always match up with what the doctor said or what the current peer-reviewed research said)
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Sara Barton is clearly very knowledgable and well-trained. She isn't afraid to set your expectations realistically, but I found that once she did, she was very open to trying new things and working with some auto-immune issues. I really appreciated that she didn't push me to give up or force me to cancel a cycle when I didn't respond well (and I wanted to move forward). I found her to be very compassionate, and she treated me like a colleague instead of talking down to me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I would be prepared knowing what you really want to do and don't be afraid to speak up when she may be steering you one direction. Be sure to request as many regroups/phonecalls/communication directly with Dr. Barton as you feel is necessary, as some of the nurses weren't the best at communicating accurate information
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
At first I wasn't entirely sure how the process would go because Dr. Barton began by spending most of her time managing expectations/verging on discouraging me. I was afraid that she would be too negative and wouldn't let me try, but once she gave the stats and such, she really listened to me and to my desires, independent on the "stats of success." She really advocated for me, whether that was regarding lab use of donor sperm or by retrieving a very small number of eggs. And she really took seriously my past history with autoimmune disease and extreme sensitivity to hormones in the past. I felt like she was very caring and very thoughtful about what treatment might work best for an unusual case like mine.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Katie)
Katie is very wonderful, warm and compassionate. And I never experienced her "dropping the ball." She generally got everything in on time and had good follow-through. I was disappointed as some lack of knowledge that she had when I asked her questions. The main challenge with this was not the lack of knowing about certain circumstances I discussed, but that she didn't always admit that she didn't know, and just gave me inaccurate information (which I would have to double-check later, and sometimes it didn't always match up with what the doctor said or what the current peer-reviewed research said)
Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
Runs like a well-oiled machine. Very efficient, clean and friendly. The billing department was terrible. They messed up a number of things for me during my IUI cycles (and didn't let me know when my referral was no longer valid, even though I had no other way of knowing that it had expired). So I ended up paying for two full IUIs when I was entitled to an insurance discount.

Her [Dr. Barton] medication list is geared towards better egg quality. She will not do a fresh transfer, highly suggested testing embryos with my history of failed transfers. ... She’s straight forward which I believe every RE should be and honest. Not harsh in at all, just confident and honest. She was open with cost and how to save. For example, I am not big on the cost of genetic testing for myself and my spouse, it was her idea just to test one to see if the other needs to be tested.
Billing is always a weakness of CCRM. When I was seeing them for monitoring, they told me the price of ultrasounds for monitoring, charged me for it. I had no idea that I needed to paymore money until after my first failed cycle and I went back in for monitoring of my second cycle. ... [nurses] Attentive and nice. I have not had too many interactions with them at this time. My original nurse went on maternity leave. Everything has been good so far.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Too soon to know how this ends up but with all of the doctors/offices I’ve been to (at least 5) this is the best that I’ve felt with an RE. She’s straight forward which I believe every RE should be and honest. Not harsh in at all, just confident and honest. She was open with cost and how to save. For example, I am not big on the cost of genetic testing for myself and my spouse, it was her idea just to test one to see if the other needs to be tested. She also didn’t feel that I needed to do the hsg test again. The clinic I went to for the original x-ray closed. We have the report but no x-ray to show CCRM.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Be prepared with how relaxed you’ll feel. I’m argumentative and opinionated, she handled it with grace.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Honest, caring and no bullsh*t.
Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
My first IVF procedure with her will be in two months. The last clinics, I’ve only ended up with one blast, most if not all arrest on day 5. Her medication list is geared towards better egg quality. She will not do a fresh transfer, highly suggested testing embryos with my history of failed transfers. Everything she listed for our cycle together, I was asking my previous doctor about but he did not see the need.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CCRM Colorado.
Attentive and nice. I have not had too many interactions with them at this time. My original nurse went on maternity leave. Everything has been good so far.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
Roughly $125 to see the doc, everything else seems to be listed on their website. I’m not 100% sure of what my total cost will be for IVF yet.
Describe Sara Barton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CCRM Colorado.
She’s open to both, suggested we transfer two but I refuse to do so at this time.

I met with [Dr. Barton] during our initial visit. During the remaining 10 months or so I worked with the clinic testing and doing labs, adjusting medications, I never saw or heard from Dr. Barton...She seemed knowledgable and listened to and addressed all of my concerns during the initial meeting. As the works up and labs progressed, when it became clear that I needed medications for a sub clinical thyroid, I never received calls from Dr. Baron, only ever the nurses.
I check my EOB from the insurance, and at one point it shows communicable disease labs, which were never ordered by Dr. Barton [at CCRM Colorado], and never performed, but my insurance was charged and paid 100% of the $500 labs. I really lost confidence after speaking with the director of patient services who was unable to resolve the issues. Ultimately, my insurance had to open up an investigation. I don't know where it landed, and it may have been a series of administrative mistakes, but it felt like an undue burden given the challenges of undergoing fertility treatments.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I only met with Dr. Barton during our initial consultation. She seemed knowledgable and listened to and addressed all of my concerns during the initial meeting. As the works up and labs progressed, when it became clear that I needed medications for a sub clinical thyroid, I never received calls from Dr. Baron, only ever the nurses.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I would advise a patient to have a clear understanding of the treatment plan from Dr. Barton at the initial meeting, and also understand what plan B might look like.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?

Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
Dr. Baron adjusted a thyroid medication a few times, and the brand, but I never spoke directly with her about it, only ever to the nurses. I never heard about next steps or the timeline.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Bridgette)
Bridgette was helpful, able to answer my question, and always called back within a day or so, or had another nurse call me back to answer my questions. I was discouraged that she never reached out when we stopped seeking treatment at CCRM, and surprised they never called to follow up on my next lab. Overall, Bridgette was a good and knowledgable nurse.
Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
The clinic is very spa like, and has a primary care coordinator assigned to you, so you initially feel like special and cared for. The weaknesses for me, were less about the patient care and more about administrative and billing practices. I had a lot of difficulty and frustration with the Billing Coordinator and was ultimately forced to change clinics because the damage had been done. My insurance company filed an investigation into their billing practices because we both were paying the charges at 100%.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
I don't remember, and had so much back and forth with my insurance and their billing coordinator, I am not really sure what the costs were. My advice would be to keep a close eye on your EOBs.

I was repeatedly charged different amounts for the same labs--for instance my TSH lab was $15 one time, and the very next time $70. Dr. Barton is overall kind and direct. She seemed to remember me and my case fine. She expressed her condolences for our difficult year of recurrent early miscarriages...is a very smart doctor. She was not the right doctor for us as we do not want information shared in an overly blunt manner. Infertility is hard enough. We left multiple appointments confused and feeling very hopeless. As a couple in our late 20s with unexplained infertility, there should be a lot of room for hope and varying options of treatment.
CCRM is a gigantic practice. People come from all over the country to visit it... I'm glad we left as we were able to find a great practice that is a bit smaller and more personal...CCRM was not the right fit for us. It's the most expensive option and there are just so many patients that you can feel lost in the shuffle...Once you select a doctor at CCRM, you cannot change...I really loved how I was always able to talk with a nurse when I called, even if mine was unavailable. The nurses were all very kind and helpful. It was clear they could look up my case and talk through it on the phone which was very helpful. I was able to email or call.

I wish I would have looked up more reviews before having Dr. Barton as my doctor. Once you select a doctor at CCRM, you cannot change. As other reviews state, Dr. Barton is incredibly direct. I selected a female doctor as I felt they would be able to relate more but I was left wishing for more bedside manner. Some patients may view her directness as an asset and prefer it but it was not the right fit for us.

CCRM is a gigantic practice. People come from all over the country to visit it. However, there are other great practices in Colorado that people from all over the country also come to. [Dr. Sara Barton] is more than willing and able to answer questions...We also did treatment for endometriosis for the fourth cycle. Although we weren't able to fully test for endometriosis, due to an abnormal ovulatory schedule, we treated it prophylactically and it worked! We also considered an endometrial receptivity testing but did not end up doing that test due to timing and other issues. The other treatment that was generally helpful was a hysteroscopy to scratch up the lining prior to the transfer. This seemed to make a difference on the times when the embryo implanted versus when it didn't.
Katie [nurse at CCRM Colorado]...is great. Empathetic, thoughtful, responsive and supportive. Appreciated the ability to send a message to your nurse online via a portal versus trying to call and always having to leave a message... a well oiled machine. The doctors and nurses I worked with were fantastic. Paperwork is sometimes a challenge (thought you had signed all but then turns out you didn't). The only other downside is the business office is hard to get ahold of at times but they started using e-mail which was much easier than playing phone tag. I think the strengths are their expertise, proven outcomes and resources - as well as their people.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Sara is patient, kind, but extremely good at her job - the perfect balance of amazingly smart, but with the human touch that is hard to find in a medical professional. She took time to explain things thoroughly. We were kind of a challenging case, and she was skilled at finding solutions and new ways to navigate our infertility issues. She was collaborative and always listened to what we wanted while gently offering suggestions.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Sara is more than willing and able to answer questions - don't hesitate to reach out if something seems unusual or different or if you just need reassurance.
Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
We underwent 4 FET cycles, although our embryos were retrieved at a different facility (not CCRM). The first and second cycles were unsuccessful, but the third resulted in a pregnancy, only to find no heartbeat at 6 weeks. The fourth was successful. For 1-3, we only transferred one embryo. For cycle 4, we did two. We also did treatment for endometriosis for the fourth cycle.

Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
CCRM is exceptionally skilled at what they do. They have an excellent reputation globally and are a well oiled machine. The doctors and nurses I worked with were fantastic. Paperwork is sometimes a challenge (thought you had signed all but then turns out you didn't). Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
I want to say that the transfer only was in the ball park of $7K, not including prescription medication.
Describe Sara Barton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CCRM Colorado.
They have a chart that indicates their suggested approach - generally just one, unless you are of a certain age or have a history of failed transfers or your egg quality is not ideal.

I loved Dr. Barton. I felt like she knew us and was invested in our success. She took the time to walk us through every step of the process and answered all of our questions in detail. Dr Barton was the best part of working with ccrm. Even though we did not always talk to her or see her on visits the nurse assured me she reviewed our case. Often times the nurse would say “let me check with dr Barton” before directing us which I appreciated.
They [CCRM- Lone Tree] get results. They are a busy clinic and at times I felt like a number but I wanted a clinic who had good experience with many patients and CCRM has that. Billing was confusing at times so be diligent about reviewing every charge and understanding what you are paying for.... They [the nurses] were wonderful! Although I did not always see the same nurse during my IVF cycle the staff I did see was aware of my case and knowledgeable. It was sometimes difficult to speak with someone on the phone the nurses were very quick and responsive via email. At one point my GC had some bad bleeding and we were able to get a hold of our nurse and sr quickly which was comforting.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I loved Dr. Barton. I felt like she knew us and was invested in our success. She took the time to walk us through every step of the process and answered all of our questions in detail. Dr Barton was the best part of working with ccrm. Even though we did not always talk to her or see her on visits the nurse assured me she reviewed our case. Often times the nurse would say “let me check with dr Barton” before directing us which I appreciated.

pick her! She is wonderful!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Sarah was wonderful! I never felt like a number when speaking with her. She knew the details of our situation. She was warm and kind but also knowledgeable and direct. I loved her! I knew from the moment I spoke to her that she was our doctor. That being said the clinic is large and treats thousands of people with great success. I chose this clinic because I would be a number. She [Dr. Sara Barton] was very confident and made me feel that we will be able to get pregnant. I liked that she would be able to answer my questions and reword the answer if I didn’t understand. I liked that she never hesitated in her plan and always reminded us of the final goal of making us parents. I was lucky enough to have her do my hyperscopy, my egg retrieval and my transfer. If I found out a friend of mine was starting in there infertility journey I would tell them to seek out Dr. Burton right away. She’s blunt enough to inform you of everything going on however has such a kind way of saying it. Ultimately I always just felt better after talking with her.
Overall CCRM was very impressive. From the one-day work up to egg retrieval and embryo transfer. The only thing that was a little sketchy was the sperm deposit. After hearing the story from my husband I had to laugh because it sounds like something you would see in a spy movie. The lobby and the upstairs operating rooms were outstanding but when we went down to the lab area in the basement it was kind of scary. You would think somebody was going to murder you down there.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
We live six hours from our fertility clinic. I spoke to Dr. Barton a couple times on the phone before I finally got to meet her in person. She was very confident and made me feel that we will be able to get pregnant. I liked that she would be able to answer my questions and reword the answer if I didn’t understand. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I would tell someone looking into Dr. Burton that they should just do what she says. I kept trying to curve her plan into my plan but ultimately I should just have listen to her and we wouldn’t of wasted two months. She really knows what she’s doing.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
We had to do a lot of weekend blood draws. I hated those because of the staff at the clinic made me feel like they were just moving us through like cattle. But every time I worked with Dr. Barton specifically she talked to “US” and explained everything thoroughly even when I asked the same question three or four times
Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
I’m sorry I’m not very good at remembering all the protocols dr. Burton used but I do know I was injecting Menipur and Gonal-F followed by a trigger shot. Before my egg retrieval for my fresh transfer. Then she had me on endometrium after transfer
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Angelica )
I loved my primary nurse Angelica. I wanted to be her friend at the end of our IVF journey I was very sad that I wasn’t going to get to talk to her on the phone every day anymore. I really hope that she is there when we go back to do our next cycle. As far as the rest of the nursing staff they all seemed very nice however whenever we came in to get my levels checked on Saturday and Sunday you could tell no one wanted to be there and we did not get very good treatment sometimes they just gave us a thumbs up and went on not even giving us our numerical results for the day.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
We did a sperm analysis, a hypercopy, a HSG, blood tests, an IUI, egg retrieval and fresh transfer costing roughly $23,000 which includes anywhere from $6,000 to $8,000 in meds.
Describe Sara Barton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CCRM Colorado.
Dr. Burton didn’t seem too concerned about transferring multiple embryos we always planned on transferring to then we freaked out and transferred one at the last minute she did explain some risks of transferring more than one but ultimately she let us decide

Dr Barton took the time to review our options and discuss our diagnosis with us. I was lucky enough that I had Dr Barton on the day of transfer and she made me feel at ease and explained what was occurring...Dr Barton takes the time to answer your questions, I never once felt rushed when I was meeting with her...Was on CCRM protocol 3 (no BC, primed with cetrotide). Had a diagnosis of DOR, so drugs were increased over the stim period as expected. Husband has a small morphology problem so we did ICSI and IMFI. Resulted in 5 embroyo's, and currently 28 weeks with twin girls.
The billing and back office [at CCRM] is horrendous. If it weren't for my near constant follow up, I don't think we would of been paid back or gotten proper claims to insurance. ...The entire nursing staff at CCRM, including lab people are awesome - and really what make CCRM. You will rarely if ever talk to your doctor, and don't expect them to be the one to do your procedures as they rotate through. However, each and every nurse or lab were awesome to be with.
How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I came to Dr Barton and CCRM after failed IUI's and feeling less than important at another local Denver clinic. I don't think we were a typically challenging case for CCRM, but Dr Barton took the time to review our options and discuss our diagnosis with us. I was lucky enough that I had Dr Barton on the day of transfer and she made me feel at ease and explained what was occurring.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Even though she hasn't been at the clinic a long time, give her the chance to be your doctor. There is a reason she's at one of the best clinics in the US and is easy to get appointments with!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?

After seeing them day after day during stims you start to build a great relationship.
Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
The billing and back office is horrendous. If it weren't for my near constant follow up, I don't think we would of been paid back or gotten proper claims to insurance. Furthermore, check your insurance policy - CCRM has a "policy" to require prepayment, or what they think your co-pay amount is (even if you've met your deductible and out of pocket max) and in same cases is outside of their contract with the insurance company. Causes a lot of additional work when you're already dealing with the emotional side of getting pregnant.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
With medication, and procedures (including one day workup), we spent just under $35K for one IVF cycle. We are local and did not have added travel costs with that.

Based on a diagnosis of unexplained infertility, and a relatively good prognosis, we have not yet met very often with Dr Barton, but in our few interactions she seemed caring, determined to put us on a path towards live birth and seemed to handle my course of treatments through the 3 IUIs as I expected...Her "bedside manner" gave me the sense that she truly cared about our personal infertility journey, how it impacts us from a whole-person (not just physical) perspective, and that she wanted to see us succeed.
They [CCRM] are very responsive and helpful with all of your questions and concerns. I was treated like my case was very important the entire time I was being treated...My trigger shot for the first IUI procedure was not called in timely. Also I had to go to both the lone tree location and denver location back to back to get labs done before starting treatment because they forgot to order all necessary tests...I really appreciated having one.l nurse assigned to me that was familiar with my face and case

Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
We did ovarian stimlation with clomid (100 mcg) for 3 cycles on cycle days 3-7. Beginning with Ultrasound to check for cysts prior to beginning medication each cycle. Follicle check ultrasounds on approx cycle day 10-12. Triggered ovulation with Ovidrel for IUI scheduled 36 hours after trigger. Semen collection was scheduled for 2 hours prior to IUI. When lining was less than 7mm at follicle check, vaginal Estrace was given to help with uterine lining, and continued until 2 weeks after ovulation. No pregancy was achieved through these 3 cycles.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Erica)
I really appreciated having one.l nurse assigned to me that was familiar with my face and case. However, Erica left CCRM during my treatment and I was reassigned. Some of the nurses made the IUI procedure more comfortable than others. I especially liked the nurse that used IUI with sonogram to help guide.

Dr. Barton was considerate and compassionate. She approached my diagnosis of DOR pragmatically, but with optimism and support. She was Very nice and polite. She was helpful and provided all the info I asked for. Would recommend her to anyone and everyone I know. Had a very successful transfer because of her. She told me that we had a high chance of success with my embryo and we did...I just did transfers with dr. Barton. We used BCP, minivelle patches and PIO shots. A pretty typical protocol which worked for me the first time and worked again for me with the transfer Dr. Barton did
CCRM Is the best. Their lab is 2nd to none. Their business office isn't the most put together .....but I didn't find it that bad (not at all so bad that I wouldn't go to. CCRM)....[Nurse] She was great! The nursing staff was always on top of it! I never had any issues. And Ruby who does the blood draws is PHENOMENAL. I love her so much!...She [Dr. Barton] is very sweet. I felt that she had thoroughly looked at my file....She was helpful and provided all the info I asked for.

I really enjoyed working with Dr. Barton. She was a great mix of empathetic and straightforward...Anytime I had a question, someone was available to answer, either Dr. Barton or her nurses...standard egg retrieval cycle, HSG, FSG to check for blocked tubes and endometriosis. Post-er, standard frozen embryo transfer schedule and the first one stuck...
It [CCRM Colorado] feels like a well oiled machine. The nurses all help each other and any nurse could be answering the questions I sent through the CCRM portal. I always received a prompt response...Lots of locations, doctors, nurses. Definitely felt less personal than the other clinic I went to (which had 1 dr and 2 nurses) but I liked that better. More people means more experience. The DR who did my transfer was the original dr from CCRM, and the embryologist was also the original embryologist...

We were told we would never be able to have children and Dr Barton and her staff made our dreams come true on our first round of IVF. She was able to combine tradition medicine with acupuncture!... We have never received such amazing personal care before meeting Dr. Barton and the staff at CCRM. The entire process we felt like we were their only patents.
Both Gina and Amy [at CCRM Lone Tree] followed us through our entire journey. they called daily with test results and were so supportive through everything. She [Dr Barton] has been friendly and informative...The clinic [Heartland Center for Reproductive Medicine] was always very helpful and did their best to accommodate scheduling. They were good about explaining everything so you could understand.

2 embryos were suggested to transfer. [Dr. Barton] Had planned to do a day 5 transfer but with low fert rates we did a day 3...took the time to answer all our questions thoroughly and honestly. She was realistic and honest but she always left hope on the table, b/c she let us know she had seen anything and everything happen...When our IVF cycle did not go as well as we all predicted, she changed the course of our cycle and it worked. I know this doesn't work for everyone, and we got lucky, but I felt she acted in our best interest to get us pregnant. I will always be grateful that she was willing to do something that wasn't very common (day 3 fresh transfer) and that it worked.
[CCRM Colorado] will not hold your hand a ton like a small clinic. But I didn't care, I wanted my doc to get me pregnant and that is what they did. How was your experience with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
I believe it is because of Dr. Barton that I have my children. When our IVF cycle did not go as well as we all predicted, she changed the course of our cycle and it worked. I know this doesn't work for everyone, and we got lucky, but I felt she acted in our best interest to get us pregnant. I will always be grateful that she was willing to do something that wasn't very common (day 3 fresh transfer) and that it worked.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Sometimes it is hard to hear the things a RE will tell you, but you should listen closely and make the best decision for you to build a family.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado?
Dr. Barton took the time to answer all our questions thoroughly and honestly. She was realistic and honest but she always left hope on the table, b/c she let us know she had seen anything and everything happen.
Describe the protocols Sara Barton used in your cycles at CCRM Colorado and their degree of success.
Protocol 3. Day 3 fresh transfer of 2 embroys since our fertilization rate was poor.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CCRM Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Brigitte)
Brigitte was great!
Describe your experience with CCRM Colorado.
Their success rate is unparallelled. They will not hold your hand a ton like a small clinic. But I didn't care, I wanted my doc to get me pregnant and that is what they did. CCRM is so expensive. But I felt like hopefully I'd have luck on the first try there, as opposed to going somehwere else and needing multiple transfers.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sara Barton at CCRM Colorado.
$25,000
Describe Sara Barton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CCRM Colorado.
2 embryos were suggested to transfer. Had planned to do a day 5 transfer but with low fert rates we did a day 3. My twins did come prematurely and that was very hard, however, I understood that the probability of us actually having twins was low. We just got lucky.

Dr. Barton is smart and direct, and conveys information clearly. However, there aren't many opportunities to interact with her. I've only had one 30 min initial consult and one 30 min regroup to go over my test results, and they both felt pretty quick and rushed...Come in with your questions written out. Take good notes (she talks quickly!)...There is a long wait time to get an initial appointment (often multiple months) so call to set one up sooner than you think!
CCRM seems like they have good facilities and they are top-rated for their results. There is a long wait time to get an initial appointment (often multiple months) so call to set one up sooner than you think! They are pretty advanced in their field and even have some options (e.g., an acai berry supplement) that is only available to their patients...Very responsive nurse (via an app) but infrequent doctor interactions

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
We just met [with Dr. Sara Barton] for our initial consult - she was very comprehensive and shared just the right information with me - based on records I set over- and using her knowledge and background was able to review my previous diagnosis of unexplained and update it to something that made sense from the labs. I appreciate the initial review and look forward to working with her more...heard what I had to say - if it was a joke or if it was something serious and she listened and then responded. She didnt talk at me but with me.
It was really helpful to review all the doctor bios [at CCRM Colorado] and pick a doctor that worked for us. The locations are accessible from all over the city. We just had our first visit and everyone was nice and knowledgeable and there was appropriate follow up.... to date...We just met for our initial consult - she [Dr. Sara Barton] was very comprehensive and shared just the right information with me - based on records I set over- and using her knowledge and background was able to review my previous diagnosis of unexplained and update it to something that made sense from the labs.
