As a patient younger than 40 and older than 35, I was told the best treatment plan is to transfer a single embryo...Dr. Scott Slayden was very understanding of my questions and my concerns pertaining to my egg retrieval. If I needed to schedule an appt to see him, he would find the time to accommodate my schedule to get that going, whether it was in person or on a virtual appointment...I felt like I was treated like a human because there were consistency in the communication about how I would feel and what I needed to do if I felt uncomfortable in any way during the process
There were some discrepancies [at RBA] with when my procedure would take place and what the insurance would cover. I had a designated nurse/nurses who assisted my planning or communication of my medications and when to make the changes...The worst thing about the office is the phones and people answering the phones. As a patient, I found it to be very frustrating not being able to get a hold of clinician or staff when you need assistance with your medication or need to communicate to the team in reference to your care
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr. Scott Slayden was very understanding of my questions and my concerns pertaining to my egg retrieval. If I needed to schedule an appt to see him, he would find the time to accommodate my schedule to get that going, whether it was in person or on a virtual appointment. He truly had confidence in my case and his expectations were high and it turned out to be amazing results for me. On the day of surgery he made me feel comfortable and at ease letting me know that it was going to be ok and the procedure it self was approximately 30 minutes and before I knew it, I was in the recovery room waking up to my boyfriend (future husband), and Dr. Scott Slayden by my side making sure I was ok.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Make sure you understand you understand your procedure because if you do not it would be advised to speak to your doctor about the whole process, which the nurses will be able to assist as well. Know your insurance coverage, and keep track of every single detail of the whole process. Keep records of communication, medication delivery, cost of medication, and take notes.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
I felt like I was treated like a human because there were consistency in the communication about how I would feel and what I needed to do if I felt uncomfortable in any way during the process. Elizabeth the nurse always made sure to call me back if I left a message for the team through the portal.
Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I was on a standard antagonist IVF protocol treatment. I was on the two main gonadotropins: follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones can also be synthesized or purified in a laboratory and given by injection as fertility medications. HCG was used to trigger my final egg maturation, then The egg retrieval procedure was scheduled around 36 hours after the trigger shot. Quality control throughout the entire process was very important to me with in vitro fertilization. One of the ways they improve quality control in the program is by using highly specialized ultrasound equipment. When I went in for my scans, I was measured and the follicles were growing as indicated by my scan. When it was close to my procedure, I was so ready for my procedure because I felt so bloated and wanted to burst. I was able to retrieve 20 eggs and froze 15 mature eggs. In summary, my doctor chose this protocol because it is particularly useful for those at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Elizabeth)
Elizabeth the nurse definitely helped me with communication and planning of my appointments. One of the biggest issue I had with the team is the coordinator's communication/ mix up of my procedure which caused some issues with my insurance and authorization for my procedure. There were some discrepancies with when my procedure would take place and what the insurance would cover. I had a designated nurse/nurses who assisted my planning or communication of my medications and when to make the changes.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
Very prestige, clean, professional staff, several locations to meet the patients needs, and appointments were very flexible. The worst thing about the office is the phones and people answering the phones. As a patient, I found it to be very frustrating not being able to get a hold of clinician or staff when you need assistance with your medication or need to communicate to the team in reference to your care. I've had to file a couple a complaints with the business manager and it was very hard to deal with the communication and answering of the phones. They should do better with their phones. Its definitely one of their weakness.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
It was efficient and I had no issues with my monitoring appointments. My technician was thorough and explain the procedure and what would be the next step in the process.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
My treatment cost was mostly covered by my insurance and my out of pocket expenses were about 2K.
Describe Scott Slayden's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
Since my eggs are frozen, I did not have an in depth conversation about the eSET options of transfers. As a patient younger than 40 and older than 35, I was told the best treatment plan is to transfer a single embryo. If I had to pick my options, I would prefer to a multiple embryo transfer to include two embryo transfer. He recommended a single transfer but I would love to have twins and start a family in a shorter period time frame in order to create a sense of a large family.
What specific things went wrong at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
  • Lost paperwork
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
Communication, inconsistency with insurance and clinical communication, and coordinator not following up appropriately.

Our consultations went very well with Dr. Slayden. He was easy to talk to, humorous, and always explained risks and benefits associated with each procedure and medication...He has an analytical and conservative approach...whoever is on call for the week does your retrieval and transfer so you might not receive direct physical care from your assigned doctor
While getting into RBA can be a communication challenge, once you are "in" as a patient you receive top-notch care...whoever is on call for the week does your retrieval and transfer so you might not receive direct physical care from your assigned doctor...communication has been very fast and effective once you are officially an RBA patient. There were no mishaps and all calls/portal messages were returned promptly
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Our consultations went very well with Dr. Slayden. He was easy to talk to, humorous, and always explained risks and benefits associated with each procedure and medication. I never felt pushed in any way and was actually given the option of what protocol I wanted to pursue for transfer. I obviously trusted his judgement and went with his first suggestion, but I appreciated him giving me options and fully explaining risks and benefits that went along with it. He has an analytical and conservative approach which we appreciated.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Do copious amounts of research and education on your own so your time during consultations can be spent talking specifically about YOU and not general info about IVF that you could already learn about on your own time. Have your questions written down beforehand.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
While getting into RBA can be a communication challenge, once you are "in" as a patient you receive top-notch care. I do remember trying to get initially scheduled took some time but communication has been very fast and effective once you are officially an RBA patient. There were no mishaps and all calls/portal messages were returned promptly. I really felt like all nurses, doctors, and office staff cared.
Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We were dealing with MFI so I had a very textbook and normal straight-forward protocol. BC for 2+ weeks, low dose HCG + Follistim for a few days, and then added in daily Ganirelix for the remainder of stims. Triggered with Lupron and had retrieval 2 days later. 21 eggs retreived, 13 mature, 9 fertilized, 6 embryos, 3 PGS normal. All frozen for a FET 2 months later. Transfer protocol was BC for 2+ weeks, daily Lupron injections ( I am a normal ovulator so this was added to prevent my body from ovulating on its own, resulting in a cancelled cycle), combination of Estrogen tablets + patches, and progesterone in oil injections. 1st FET was successful and I continued all FET meds until week 10 of pregnancy.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Shelby and Lizzy)
Nurses are the MVPs of this place. My nursing team (Lizzy and Shelby) was incredibly compassionate, great at communicating, organized, prepared me well, and I knew they were cheering for us. I also had a great experience with the blood draw nurse (I can be a hard stick and she was always gentle patient and kind) and ultrasound techs.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
Strength: high end technology, large and can take many patients, top-notch nursing and office staff, lots of resources, helpful online portal, good location, industry leaders, never a long wait time for appointments, was comfortable and well taken care of in surgery and procedures. Weakness: would be nice to have met our doctor in person but we know this is due to Covid (whoever is on call for the week does your retrieval and transfer so you might not receive direct physical care from your assigned doctor, this was not an issue for me though)
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
Retreival was $14,100, stim meds were $4000, genetic testing was $100 per embryo + $250 shipping cost (this was a 3rd party expense), FET was $4250 per transfer and transfer meds through 10 weeks of pregnancy were about $1200
Describe Scott Slayden's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
RBA is a supporter of eSET due to their high success rates weighed against risks of multiple births, we were in agreeance with this

[Dr. Scott Slayden] seemed to care about my husband and I growing our family whenever met with him. He did not perform my egg retrieval and I was not aware that he was not going to be there. I had a lot of unanswered questions and felt he didn't follow-up...my protocol seemed to be very generic...didn't seemed tailored for me and my fertility issues...I didn't feel important at all...
the different locations they [RBA] provided and the appointment time are convenient to my work schedule...[nurses] didn't communicate...always losing my paperwork and that seemed to be the focus everytime I came to appointment...never organized...had to remind them where I was throughout my process...they double book patients...always rushing to get me in and out.

I was never followed up with written documentation throughout the process and I alway had to remind them where I was throughout my process or they would loose my paperwork and went multiple nurses and was giving different procedures. Felt very rushed!

you can tell they didn't communicate during my process. I would multiple nurse and they were always losing my paperwork and that seemed to be the focus everytime I came to appointment and never organized. It was a frustrating process and always rushing to get me in and out. They knock on the door during ultrasound sessions rushing the sonogram technician.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
Some of the strength of this clinic is the different locations they provided and the appointment time are convenient to my work schedule. Some of the weaknesses include not the waiting time in the waiting room is sometime longer than normal because they double book patients. For anyone looking to receive services from this clinic have you questions ready and get ready to have multiple nurses. I wish you well!!

He [Dr. Slayden] met with me and my husband and gave us the time and energy to understand everything...He is a clear communicator, although I am in medicine, and his nurse told me that many people don't understand him, so she went through everything again. There were a couple of comments that were difficult to hear, particularly an analogy of my eggs having rusty rails, but I like that it kicked my partner into gear to say that. His clinic staff have followed up with me comprehensively, even during the coronavirus outbreak. I also liked that he didn't try to mess around with IUI and got right to IVF since I had recurrent pregnancy loss.
clinic staff [at RBA] have followed up with me comprehensively, even during the coronavirus outbreak...[nurses are] Very compassionate, upbeat and comprehensive. Great communication...They also offer a guaranteed baby program starting at $19K, but given my age (37), my estimate, before review by the board, was around $29K...It's a lovely office in a nice building. There were no other patients there before or during our visit (to the best of my knowledge), which was really nice. They practiced excellent sanitary and confidentiality procedures. I was expecting them to draw blood during my first visit, but instead they sent me to Quest. Not a big deal, but it's good to know that they didn't do any diagnostics during the first visit.

Dr. Slayden always made me feel welcomed and heard...Take plenty of notes when you go to appts, bc he does talk fast...We decided to do IVF with low dose HCG, Cetrotide, and Gonal F...Due to my estrogen being too high, we had to nix the Fresh transfer protocol and move to a complete FET. He believed I was on the verge of having OHSS....currently 18 weeks, 3 days pregnant with our little girl!
I really enjoy the satellite sites compared to the main clinic [for RBA]. I feel like they were more personable compared to those at the home base. I went to Marietta and Cartersville satellite sites. I had to go to Sandy Springs (main clinic) for husband's appts, retrieval/transfer, and during the beginning of pandemic. The main clinic just has a lot going on, esp bc it is attached to a large hospital.
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
As a patient, Dr. Slayden always made me feel welcomed and heard. He listened to what I had to say and what my needs were, then planned the best course of treatment to satisfy everyone. He was positive during every appt. I did not feel like a number under his care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
He is very energetic, so be prepared. But he is willing to do what is necessary to get you pregnant. Take plenty of notes when you go to appts, bc he does talk fast. He will answer every question you have to the best of his ability.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr. Slayden always asked about my husband when he couldn't make it to appts (esp during the pandemic). He would always take the time to ask about work, etc. He was always so caring and wanted to make sure we would become pregnant. He answered every question we had and made sure we understood our options. He also let us pick what WE wanted.
Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We started off with MFI. We were recommended to Dr. Slayden by my husband's urologist, who is also at RBA. We decided to do IVF with low dose HCG, Cetrotide, and Gonal F as the medications for retrieval. Due to my estrogen being too high, we had to nix the Fresh transfer protocol and move to a complete FET. He believed I was on the verge of having OHSS and didn't want to risk anything. Then the pandemic hit, but we were able to have our FET in June 2020 (successful) and currently 18 weeks, 3 days pregnant with our little girl!
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Lacie Bean )
Lacie was an actual saint. She held my hand every step of the way, esp when my husband couldn't be there. She did everything she could to help the pregnancy along. She always called to check on me, held my hand when I cried, and made sure that I always had what I needed. I couldn't have gone through this without her. The other nurses and staff were great, too! Always friendly and willing to help!

Whew. With any fertility treatment, it is expensive. Luckily, SOME things were sent to our insurance, but not all. Most everything was paid out of pocket (esp IVF treatment, meds, FET)
Describe Scott Slayden's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
He explained to us the difference and due to my age, size (fairly small in weight and height), and the increased chance of having twins (or more), we all agreed that a single embryo transfer was best.

He [Dr. Scott Slayden] explained everything very well. I had to have surgery initially which turned out to just be a uterine polyp but he was awesome and very personable. When was pregnant but my HCG levels hadn’t increased as they should he called me to tell me and did it in a very compassionate but factual way so I understood exactly what was happening. When I had the miscarriage the ultrasound tech was out so he personally did the ultrasound. He remains positive but realistic about the treatments.
They [nurses at RBA-Marietta] are great- always get back to me quickly when I call, appointments are on time and efficient...Clomid check $470...Mid cycle ultrasound $200...IUI $600...I love that they have several different office locations and I can go to anyone for the ultrasounds and bloodwork. I wish there was more of a support network while in treatment. I think they have a group at the main office but it has never been mentioned. This process is hard physically and emotionally and wish they had more to offer in the way of a community feeling.

I am currently in the middle of the last cycle of IUI we can do before having another consultation and moving to other treatments. It’s been straight forward so far: Clomid check- iltrasound, clomid 2 tabs x 5 days then a mid cycle ultrasound and then IUI the day after positive ovulation test.

Scott Slayden takes an extraordinary amount of time with his patients. He listens, he talks with you as an informed patient who has a huge stake in their treatment, he offers up different solutions and paths to consider, and, above all, he is kind, compassionate, and caring while not sugar-coating the truth of the situation. He delivers news in a gentle, straightforward manner that gives you hope while also keeping a grasp on the reality of the difficult circumstances.
Their [RBA] absolute strength is the excellence of the embryo lab and it’s director, Dr. Nagy. It is world-class and has incredible results. Their multiple Atlanta-area locations are also a big plus. They are very willing to coordinate care with out-of-state patients. At one point, I was out-of-state and they were willing to have me do as much of the testing and monitoring possible with my local Dr before traveling to be seen at their location. During retrieval rounds this helped a lot.
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
I recommend Dr. Slayden every chance I get. He is very smart, up on the latest news, trends, and treatments, but not afraid to reach back to something tried-and-true if it might help the patient. I was a patient with a lot of complications, that kept getting worse. He was always kind, encouraging, helpful, and compassionate. More importantly, he is EXCELLENT at his job. He seems to enjoy the challenge of a patient who is not cookie-cutter and he has an amazing success rate. He is willing to go outside the box, willing to listen to patient’s ideas, will discuss different options at length, and will fight for a patient to have success. He stuck with us when other doctors may have given up or told us to stop trying. We regularly thank God for him. I recommended him to my best friend after she had failed attempts with an out-of-state clinic. I believed in his care so absolutely that I convinced her to travel to see him. And it was the right decision that resulted in a beautiful baby.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Even if you don’t live locally to his office, it is more than worth it to travel to be under his care. He is very willing to manage out-of-state patients. He is worth it.

Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I had had a failed fresh transfer cycle at another clinic and transferred to Dr. Slayden upon the recommendation of several friends who had had success with him. He recommended being strategic and aggressive with getting the most eggs and embryos possible, as quickly as possible. I had a very low ovarian reserve and had only 4 eggs retrieved at my first cycle with the first clinic, with a failed transfer of the one resulting embryo. He wanted to back-to-back retrieval rounds to get as many embryos as possible, freeze them, and then do a frozen transfer when my body was as ready as possible. We did that, got many more embryos, and then did a day-3 transfer that resulted in a pregnancy that unfortunately later miscarried. While my body healed from the miscarriage, we did another retrieval and froze all embryos to add more to the “bank”. We did another frozen transfer but my lining wouldn’t prep correctly, so we cancelled that, and he tried multiple rounds of different therapies and medications to help get my lining to respond. We attempted a “natural” transfer with a frozen embryo, timing it to my body’s cycle. That resulted in a good lining, but a chemical pregnancy. We took a break, attempted another frozen embryo transfer with a natural cycle and got our miracle boy. We had 3 more frozen transfers after him, all with “natural” protocols that times it to my body’s cycle (which doesn’t always work with the lab’s schedule, or our schedule, and we had to try different cycles before they would line up, but Slayden was willing to go that extra mile to get us our babies). That resulted in our daughter, and current healthy pregnancy.

All of RBA staff are kind and compassionate, take time with their patients, and have genuine joy and heartache for you. I have not had a single bad experience.

How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr. Slayden is pretty easy going and gives patients room to make their own decisions in most cases unrelated to safety. He also was compassionate when delivering bad news or change or plans during a treatment cycle. Some of the information comes at you pretty fast so be sure to take notes and do your own research!

After going to another top clinic in Atlanta where we felt like a number we were pleasantly surprised by RBA. Although my initial doctor left the clinic midway through the year Dr. Slayden picked up right where she left off and continued treatment.
Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We started with Dr. Slayden right from egg retrieval. We followed the plan set out by my initial doctor which he agreed with. Stimming was rather uneventful as I was only on Gonal-f and ganirelix towards the end and triggered with lupron. From that cycle we ended up with 11 genetically normal embryos. We met with the doctor to discuss plans for an FET and created a plan about a moth after egg retrieval. I started on the course of medicines prescribed (lupron, estrogen patches) but on lining check day my lining was still quite thin a week out from scheduled transfer. Dr Slayden called me personally and explained why he wanted to cancel the cycle and do a hysteroscopy before proceeding just to make sure nothing in my uterus was preventing my lining from thickening after having a D&C earlier in the year. While extremely disappointed we agreed and were able to get the surgery scheduled within a week. We were able to start the new more intense FET protocol the next day after surgery (uterus was all clear). We transferred at the end of November and I am currently a week away from my second trimester. Can’t thank Dr. Slayden enough for letting us make informed decisions along the way.

RBA went through a tough time in 2018 with a few doctors and staff turning over midway through the year. I still never felt like a number here.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
At RBA at the time a full cycle of IVF was about $14,000 not including medications and a frozen transfer was about $4000 not including medications.
Describe Scott Slayden's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
For my age and number of embryos we were both pretty adamant about transferring one. I had done my own research and was uninterested in doing more than one embryo. Dr. Slayden and I agreed and the discussion around this topic was minimal.

During a Follicle check, [Dr. Slayden] determined I had too many to proceed with an IUI cycle. This was such a big deal because my egg reserve is so low...he did not want me to lose my eggs and strongly recommend IVF. The decision to transfer to an IVF cycle was not easy...He gave me hope, he gave me support, he gave me a sweet little boy.
The first thing I noticed about [RBA] was parking was not free but thank God they validated it for you...clean and easy to navigate...operates with a level of privacy which I found comforting...accommodating to working women and men with appointments beginning as early as 7:20am...I can’t say enough about how much I love this office.
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
I always knew I wanted to be a mother, so I was completely devastated after my first miscarriage in 2013 and again in 2014. It was at that moment that I knew that I needed answers, and not just from books or online, but from a licensed professional. I chose Dr. Slayden for a number of reasons but ultimately I believe it was his confidence, knowledge, and gentleness that sealed the deal for me. And I needed that because I was completely lost emotionally. I expressed my strong desire to become a mother and Dr. Slayden was thorough and honest with me and my husband about our challenges. He gave us several fertility options but it never felt like he was trying to sell us. While he was in favor of IVF because of the success rate, he also understood the cost associated with this procedure so he recommended more cost effective approaches. In 2015, my husband and I decided to try and treat our infertility with IUI. I was excited but nervous. But what I loved about Dr. Slayden is he did not give us false hope. He was honest, but not brutal, about our chances and when my pregnancy test was negative he encouraged me not to lose faith. I think that’s what kept me going because for me, some days were really hard but I knew I had a doctor committed to my dream. In 2017, we tried IUI again but this time the results were different. During a Follicle check, he determined I had too many to proceed with an IUI cycle. This was such a big deal because my egg reserve is so low. And still committed to my dream, he did not want me to lose my eggs and strongly recommend IVF. The decision to transfer to an IVF cycle was not easy but after, what felt like an hour call with Dr. Slayden, I was convinced and completely optimistic. One thing that always stands out to me about Dr. Slayden was a conversation he had with me and my husband. My husband asked what are chances were of getting pregnant via IVF and Dr. Slayden answered by saying it’s either 0% or 100%. And I just loved this because he had faith when mine had wavered. He gave me hope, he gave me support, he gave me a sweet little boy born 5/22/2018.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
I have actually recommended Dr. Slayden to other women who dreamed of becoming mothers but could not do it naturally. I always tell them to never give up. That even if it does not work at first, to hang in there. To not lose hope. That Dr. Slayden will do everything he can to give you what you are desiring.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr.slayden and his entire staff goes above and beyond for their patience. Not only did everyone in the clinic know me by my name, but after every visit, Dr. Slayden always took time to speak to me and answer any questions I had. He spoke to me warmly but honestly. He was sad when I was sad. He was excited when I was excited. This interaction and emotions can only occur when you are treated like a human.
Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
I understood what IVF was but that was all. I learned so much from Dr. Slayden that I’ve often considered a career change from management to an IVF consultant. I struggled with a thin uterine lining so Dr. Slayden took this into consideration When writing my protocol. Instead of clomid, he prescribed follistim. After my egg retrieval came the hard part. Every single day I took L Arganine, female viagra, vitamin E, baby aspirin and progesterone. He also performed a procedure to scratch my uterus. This was done to Increase my chances of success. And last by not least, I did an estrogen injection, with the longest needle in the world, every 3 days. On September 4, 2017 i did my embryo transfer and 2 weeks later I was pregnant. I continued to take baby asprin and estrogen until I graduated at 12 weeks.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Kimmy)
I loved Kimmy. Of course when going through something like this, you often prefer the doctor treat you but after meeting Kimmy, that changed. Kimmy had twins born via IVF. Kimmy was nice, funny, gentle, forthcoming and sympathetic. These are hard qualities for 1 person to have but she operated with empathy because she understood what this meant to me. I was always nervous before every single appointment but I felt better the moment I walked through the door. Their front desk coordinator, Heather was friendly and I just loved that she knew me by my name. I can’t say enough about how much I love this office. After I had my son I had the opportunity to take him to the clinic and I just thanked every single person for helping me in some way. Sometimes it was words of encouragement and other times it was a friendly smile.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
I visited the Lawrenceville location as it was closer to my house. The first thing I noticed about this location was parking was not free but thank God they validated it for you. The clinic is clean and easy to navigate. This clinic also operates with a level of privacy which I found comforting. They are also very accommodating to working women and men with appointments beginning as early as 7:20am. This was a huge deal to me since I knew it was going to be difficult to juggle work and appointments. However, for me the biggest weakness was this office is located on the 3rd floor and I’m really scared of elevators.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
Unfortunately, I don’t remember everything. Before I began my IVZf treatment, they got me in tough with their finance department who went thoroughly went through everything with me. My total cost of the procedure with medicine and testing was close to 30k

Dr. Slayden and his nurses were respectful and caring during a very emotional time in my life....Don’t let his straightforwardness turn you away. He really cares and will do all he can to help you have a baby....He’s very straightforward and doesn’t leave any detail out. Very through in his meetings with us. We knew exactly what to expect. He showed compassion when things didn’t turn out quite like we hoped....He suggested we transfer two at a time. The first transfer resulted in a failed cycle. The second transfer resulted in a precious baby girl.
We love our clinics [RBA]. Very inviting and professional. We used the office in Lawrencville more than the main office. The office staff there was expectional. I especially love my ultrasound tech, Kimi. She was amazing and so friendly. I love how she shared her story with me. I didn’t feel so alone....Becky was our nurse and she is AWESOME!! She emailed and called frequently to give us updates and keep us on track. I could always call her with questions and concerns and she always got right back to me.

All along the way Dr. Slayden and his nurses told us what to expect. We did a egg retrieval in the summer and two transfers in fall and winter. My husband and I felt great about our doctor choice, [Dr. Slayden], at the beginning- however as time went on, it became evident that nobody at the doctor's office had our best interest at heart. We have the overwhelming feeling that this is almost like an IVF factory...all treatment plans are the same- patients are just looked at as data, not individuals with individual needs and circumstances...
RBA has 3 offices. I have been to 2- the main office in Atlanta and Dr. Slayden's office in Gwinnett. The main office is very nice. The appearance is upscale and the staff is professional. This is where most of the procedures and surgeries take place. Dr. Slayden's office is older and more run-down. The nicest thing about this office is that they validate your parking...I was always able to go first thing in the morning to get my ultrasounds and blood-work done. I rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes. The ultrasound tech is efficient and knowledgeable...
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr. Slayden makes a good first impression. He is friendly and comes across very personable. I now realize, he is a good salesman. Many of the facts and numbers he gave us were confusing. He used a bunch of metaphors that really downplayed what we were going through. ("If we were playing football and I were the quarterback, here's what I would do...") This is a turning point in our family, not a football game. My husband and I consulted with Dr. Slayden after 3 consecutive unexplained miscarriages. We were looking for options. Dr. Slayden explained to us that IVF with genetic testing was our best option because he felt 99% sure that genetic abnormalities caused our miscarriages. Dr. Slayden all but guaranteed us we would find success through IVF. After running all of the tests, he compared my chances to that of an 18 year old. My husband and I were thrilled. We completed the egg retrieval, genetic testing, and embryo transfer without success. Dr. Slayden called to tell me the pregnancy test was negative and said, "I'm ready to try again." I had JUST found out our time (6 months), money ($25,000), and emotion (inexplicable) had been wasted. I was not ready. We decided to take a break to let my body and our bank account adjust from the whole ordeal. When we were ready after a few months, Dr. Slayden suggested we try a natural/non medicated cycle. We first did an endometrial biopsy (I'm not exactly sure why). Unfortunately, we tried for 2 months- but my cycles were inconsistent so we weren't able to do the transfer. Each time, Dr. Slayden suggested we move to a medicated cycle. My husband and I weren't sure why the change of treatment plan was so quick. We felt very confused about what our best option was. For 5 months after our first transfer, my cycles remained inconsistent. Most were upwards of 35 days. I spoke to Dr. Slalyden about this and he casually said, "That is common since you have PCOS." He had NEVER mentioned PCOS in any of our communications. I questioned him and his reply was, "You COULD have PCOS. It can develop over time." He then told me he thinks I should move forward with a surrogate. That was so absolutely confusing since he always seemed so confident in our chances of success through IVF on my own. His reasons for why he said that was even more confusing...I can't begin to explain it here. He scheduled me for some blood-work and the resulting diagnosis is I "may possibly" have PCOS. That diagnosis is frustrating in itself, aside from the fact I certainly thought we would have tested for something so common prior to this point in my treatment. Especially something that can be treated without IVF. My husband and I are now more confused than ever. We did all of the initial work to make as many embryos as possible and now they are 'owned' by Dr. Slayden and RBA. We feel very helpless and it seems like our only option is to move forward with another medicated cycle. There is no change in the treatment plan although our first attempt was unsuccessful. I now "may possibly" have PCOS. We aren't sure if a surrogate is a better option. We are out of money and our patience is running thin.

Egg Retrieval Protocol: Birth Control with start of cycle for 25 days (regulate my cycle) Ultrasound and Blood-work Gonal F after BC for 5 days (produce eggs) Ultrasound and Blood-work Gonal F and Ganirelix for 5 more days (produce eggs and then ovulate) Ultrasounds and Blood-work every-other day Egg Retrieval Surgery (39 days after staring BC) Frozen Transfer Protocol: Lupron on Day 21 of cycle (not sure what the purpose is) Estrogen Replacement on Day 1 of next cycle (prep body for pregnancy) Begin Baby Asprin, Progesterone, and Medrol (prep body for pregnancy) Decrease Lupron, increase Estrogen Antibiotic for 5 days prior to transfer (in case of infection) Ultrasound and Blood-work (determine if lining is adequate for transfer) Embryo Transfer (approx 30 days after starting Lupron) Negative Pregnancy Test 7 days after transfer
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
I was told I was assigned to a particular nurse, Tracy. She seemed knowledgeable and friendly. However, I spoke to a number of nurses throughout my phone calls and appointments at this office. My first cause of frustration was when we began our first cycle and it wasn't clear why I was taking the medication. I may be unusual- however I like to understand the purpose of medications I'm putting in my body. Common answers were, "This is what Dr. Slayden wrote on your chart." ...or... "Don't worry about that, it will be fine." Most frustrating was when I saw the warning label on my progesterone medication mention DO NOT take if you have a history of miscarriage. I called the nurse to address my concerns since I have had 3 miscarriages. She told me, "Just ignore that part...don't even look at it." I also find it frustrating that the nursing staff rarely calls with test results. I can only remember 2 times (out of probably 15) that I have gotten a call with my results. I always have to call them or wait until my next appointment so I can ask about my results. The most concerning issue is that the nurses have (more than once) miscommunicated the medications I have taken or am currently taking. For example: When I first started treatment, Dr. Slayden had me on a thyroid medicine because my number was slightly higher than average. I asked the nurse how long I needed to take the medicine and she said, "For a long time, probably until another doctor down the road tells you to stop." (I prefer my medical staff to be more specific than that.) When I started my most recent cycle, the nurse told me I needed to come in and get my thyroid checked because it had been 6 months since my last check. She then (mistakenly) corrected herself and said, "No you're actually fine since you have never had any issues or had to take medication for your thyroid." I have taken medication for my thyroid...prescribed by them. The overall feel of the nursing staff is that they just want to get me out of the office, or off of the phone. It seems like they just want me to stop asking questions and do as I am told. Unfortunately, I don't have the trust in Dr. Slayden or his nurses to stop asking questions. My gut and their history of mistakes lead me to believe I am the only one being diligent about the quality of my care. I will mention one nurse, Becky, who has been helpful and informative every time I have spoken to her.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
The nicest thing about this office is that they validate your parking.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
I was always able to go first thing in the morning to get my ultrasounds and blood-work done. I rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes. The ultrasound tech is efficient and knowledgeable.

I love dr slayden, he was not just my dr, he was my friend. He knows his stuff and is very educated and experienced. He properly diagnosed me from the beginning. If we had some bumps in the road, which we did. He always was compassionate n always had a great plan. His beside manner was wonderful...They [RBA staff] are amazing, they will listen to you and explain the situation in hand and set a game plan that works the best. Even in the tough times they are a shoulder to cry on and the comfort you need to move forward. They are really the best in my eyes. We had seen 3 Dr's before him and none of them made me fell so comfortable the way dr slayden did. They also all liked compassion

Dr sladen was the 4th dr n 3rd fertility offices. We had some horrible and heartbreaking experience before we came to him. We instantly felt like family. He properly diagnosed me when I had been missed diagnosed for 3 years. He would always make me feel special especially when things were going ruff. He would call us on holidays, after hours and even on vacation if we needed. He was wonderful
Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
1st I had to have surgery to remove a uterine septum n endometriosis, a month later we had our 2nd Ivf , 1st with dr slayden. Had brithcontol n injection. Had a egg retrieval n 5 day transfer. This resulted in a pregnancy, I had a heterotopic pregnancy, I also had a hematoma with this pregnancy which caused premature labor and our twins being born to soon at 21 weeks. 2nd we had a hsg, which came back with issues, then I had to have surgery again to fix the septum n clean out. I then had a scarpe and our 3rd ivf, 2nd with dr slayden with injectables which resulted in a negative pregnancy test. I tried injectables again but the cycle was canceled because I fromed a cyst. Dr slayden suggested we take a brake for a few months and we did. We did a another hsg, come back prefect. Did the same brithcontol n Injection protocol. Had another scrape. Had our 4th ivf and 3rd with Dr slayden it was successful n great pregnancy and resulted in us having our wonderful gifts from God our twins.

He [Dr Slayden] seemed happy to continue unrealistic treatments for us (IUI) either because it would bring more revenue or because he knew we would eventually need to do IVF. The problem with this was that for every year and dollar wasted our chances of a pregnancy with even IVF would have been more difficult. Be prepared to ask him hard questions to make your treatment something worth your time and energy.
RBA is a large practice which can be daunting, but overall their physicians stay on top of the latest research in reproductive endocrinology & embryology. Their embryology program (where your eggs/sperm/embryos will be taken care for IVF cycles) is outstanding.
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr. Slayden is a technically proficient physician. And he can be charming to most patients. However, the charm (his primary bedside manner) masks a lack of personal interest in helping patients understand treatment decisions. He seemed happy to continue unrealistic treatments for us (IUI) either because it would bring more revenue or because he knew we would eventually need to do IVF. The problem with this was that for every year and dollar wasted our chances of a pregnancy with even IVF would have been more difficult. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Educate yourself before any visits/treatments, ask him hard questions every time, demand clear answers about chances of success, and make sure you understand the window of time you have to be most successful with your goal to have a family. Do not rely on him to be in the driver seat for you to get the best care.

We started off with metformin and femara, and then moved to an iui [with Dr. Slayden]. We were unsuccessful. The next cycle we planned for ivf with gonal-f and an estrogen drug and crinone for progesterone. I didn't have enough eggs for retrieval, so we switched to an iui and that was successful...He has an excellent bedside manner, he explained things carefully, made sure to answer any questions we had, and kept our expectations realistic. He did a great job keeping us comfortable during any actual procedures we did.
ivf [at RBA] - we got two cycles for about 20,000, and we able to get a refund if they were unsuccessful - minus the cost of medications...We went to the Lawrenceville location and it was very nice. For anything that had to be scheduled over the weekends or during holidays we went to the large downtown office, which was also great. Everyone was friendly and warm... They would always communicate back quickly and they were willing to work with you if you had an scheduling problems.

He [Dr Slayden] treated us for our infertility, one time ending with tubal pregnancy (which he himself performed the operation to remove the tube - in fact he insisted upon it!), and the other two pregnancies ended with two sets of twins. He rejoiced greatly with us when we were able to get pregnant, and often told us of other cases that gave him great hope from his past. His staff, especially Nancy, were caring with all of our questions, and were certain to get back to us as soon as they could about any questions that we had. They never blew us off even with the silliest of questions.
They [the staff at RBA] are extremely passionate about their work, and want you to be just as passionate. They are very loving, and are easy to work with. One downside is that there are very little credit options or payment options, at least when we were there. This made is somewhat hard for us to pay everything, although we did. Second cycles are much cheaper, and freezing embryos is very very inexpensive.
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr. Slayden was very straightforward about the expectations and realities of our particular infertility. He made sure to tell us the risks that were inherent with our treatment, but was also optimistic about our chances of pregnancy. We almost always saw Dr. Slayden for appointments, and during transfers, he was present and was in complete control of the room. He also made sure to state his success rates versus the national average. Also, he made us feel at ease with him from the first visit.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Be open and honest with Dr. Slayden. He can see through hesitancy or lies.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
Dr. Slayden and his staff always treated us as a family member would do. We always felt more than just a case. He always was fair and straightforward without being mean or painful. He treated us for our infertility, one time ending with tubal pregnancy (which he himself performed the operation to remove the tube - in fact he insisted upon it!), and the other two pregnancies ended with two sets of twins. He rejoiced greatly with us when we were able to get pregnant, and often told us of other cases that gave him great hope from his past. Describe the protocols Scott Slayden used in your cycles at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic) and their degree of success.
We used clomid at first to see if we could get pregnant that way. This ended up not being successful in getting pregnant. We ended up doing a full egg retrieval using various drugs that were very successful (38 eggs retrieved). We ended up using progesterone shots for four weeks before transfer, then for the next six weeks after implant twice per day. We also used a steroid shot before implant.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Nancy)
Nancy was the best. She always was compassionate, but also stern to make sure we were following our care plan. She wanted us to have the best chance of success. She also made sure that we were coordinated with the pharmacy, as well as the business office.
Describe your experience with Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
The office does have pay to park at their facility in Sandy Springs (the one we went to). There is sometimes a bit of a wait for your nurse and doctor, but not long. They are extremely passionate about their work, and want you to be just as passionate. They are very loving, and are easy to work with. One downside is that there are very little credit options or payment options, at least when we were there. This made is somewhat hard for us to pay everything, although we did. Second cycles are much cheaper, and freezing embryos is very very inexpensive.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic).
We had costs for various procedures. Per our insurance, they covered everything UNTIL we had the prognosis of infertility. This was not a problem with the clinic, but rather our insurance. Dr. Slayden put off a full diagnosis until the last possible moment to allow insurance to pay for a great deal of our treatment. We had costs for the operating room for embryo retrieval, as well as for our embryologist. This was covered in a 'down payment', which was used up by the time we were finished. Costs for freezing was very low per year, and the second cycle was much cheaper than the first. There were no additional costs outside of treatment for the second cycle.

He [Dr. Slayden] was very caring. He took his time to listen. He explained everything very thoroughly...Compassionate, caring, great listener. Intelligent and the first doctor that was able to diagnose my condition. His knowledge and his experience gave us our family that we desired for. I had the best experience in such a short time with him & his staff... I started BC pills on day 2 of my period for 3 weeks. 2 Weeks after I started the pills, I started Lupron. I took 10 units of lupron daily for about 10 days then decreased to 5 units up until 6 days before my transfer.
RBA is very organized. They care for there patients with compassion and kindness. Great communication. They have created a frozen donor egg bank, called MyEggBank North America and an embryo donation program. They offer financing.... My nurse Jennifer was the best! She was always there to answer any question I had. She was very organized. And caring... He [Dr. Slayden] was very caring. He took his time to listen. He explained everything very thoroughly

After those 5 days I increased the Estrace to 1 tab 2x daily then increased again 4days later to 1 tab 3x daily. 5 days before my transfer I added in PIO 1x day Doxycycline 2x day & Medrol 1x day. From transfer day on I continued Estrace & PIO. I don’t remember when I stopped the Estrace. The PIO I stopped taking at 12 weeks pregnant. I delivered a healthy baby girl!!

Dr. Slayden has an easy, optimistic, and relaxed personality. This can be wonderful in the early stages when you want reassurance about the steps ahead... However, after 4 miscarriages with him as my doctor, I wanted more realism and answers.
It is impossible to get questions answered in a timely manner... Every time I call it seems like I am putting the staff out, and I am not a high maintenance patient. I felt like I would get lost in the shuffle sometimes.

Be prepared for poor communication with the office staff. If you are a type A personality, this office may not be for you. Everyone seems so relaxed and confident which is great until the protocols don't work.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic)?
I do feel the office knows my name - i have been there nearly every month for 2 years, so I whop they do! - but getting questions answered can be extremely frustrating. Nurses only make return calls after the office closes at 3. If you miss their call, you have to wait until the following day. I feel like my questions are often dismissed and quickly answered away. It feels as if they expect patients to be the expert.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Biology Associates - Atlanta (Prelude Network Clinic). (Assigned nurse: Tracey Wolcombe)
It is impossible to get questions answered in a timely manner. If I make a call at 8am, I won't hear back until 3 pm - if I hear back at all. Every time I call it seems like I am putting the staff out, and I am not a high maintenance patient. I felt like I would get lost in the shuffle sometimes. For example, on my second egg transfer, I asked for the womb scratching like I had with my first transfer. They realized they forgot to set it up in time, so they told me it doesn't really make a difference anyways.

From the first visit to the last dr. Slayden treated us with respect and helped us create our family. When we recieved bad news him and his staff allowed us time to grieve and didnt rush us out to move on with their schedule. He would personally call to let us know results and allowed us to explore all options and testing to determine what steps were needed next.... Medications were adjusted throughout cycle based on ultrasound results.
Very friendly staff [RBA], clean office, easy to schedule appointments, quick responses when called. Major procedures are done through the main office in Atlanta with whoever the on call doctor is so it might not be your main doctor perfroming the procedure. All doctors that we worked with were wonderful and caring during our journey.... With surgeries and procedures it was about $15,000 total over 4 years.... They work well around your schedule and all his staff is very friendly and caring.

Very friendly staff, clean office, easy to schedule appointments, quick responses when called. All doctors that we worked with were wonderful and caring during our journey.

Dr. Slayden was very personal and positive with his words. He was very encouraging and honest. He made us feel right at home while speaking with him about the right plan.... You will meet with his NP a lot, but he is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he does!... We met him once. He was very kind and genuine! He was very passionate about wanting to help us and had the right plan in mind. He also took in interest to our hobby while discussing wanting to know more about us which was cool.
Front desk rep [at RBA- Lawrenceville] isn’t very passionate or friendly. She seems frustrated a lot. She’s straight forward with not much personality. All of the other staff has been very nice and pleasant! The cost are a little high but hopefully it’ll be worth it in the end... Carla is actually the NP. She communicates back very quickly, tells me what I need to hear, listens to all my concerns and answers all my questions!

The tests are long and take forever but I felt confidence in him as a doctor trying to help us grow our family. I had a negative result but I still feel like he will get us there... Lupron after BC, estrogen patches, PI O... [RBA] Seems organized, clean, friendly staff, billing efficient, always return calls.

So our first appt was a phone consultation. We talked to him [Dr. Scott Slayden] for about an hour, and he really got to know us. I was surprised at how well the appt went just having it over the phone...Due to my age (35) he doesn't recommend IUI and recommends IVF for us so we can also freeze embryos and build a larger family later...
It is tough to rate [RBA] clinic during a pandemic. We had our consult, and his MA emailed us right away to contact them the first week of April for updates and unfortunately we couldn't do anything at this point. I have had trouble getting in contact with anyone since then, but all satellite offices are closed and the Main office is open, however I am unable to get in touch with anyone there. Again, we are in the middle of a pandemic and they are not starting anything new.
How was your experience with Scott Slayden at Reproductive Biology Associates - Canton (Prelude Network Clinic)?
We have only had a phone consult to this point due to the coronavirus pandemic. He made us feel pretty good about our chances of conceiving via IVF. However due to the timing of everything we cannot get any tests or start any cycles at this point. So we are just WAITING and it stinks, but I understand.

[Dr. Slayden is a] Good doctor but tends to assume one knows all terms and numbers and doesnt explain unless specifically asked. Given this is such an overwhelming thing already. I feel putting everything as simple as possible is best way to reassure the patient that it is a team effort and they really are on your side...He said, he wouldn't want to do multiple transfers to avoid multiple pregnancies problems and end with healthy babies instead of premature risky births
All [nurses at RBA- Sandy Springs] were outstanding. They made me feel like I personally mattered to them and that my success was theirs as well... The one nurse in charge of drawing blood is too brusque and actually left a mark on my arm (in the many years I've had my blood drawn, it has NEVER happened) other than that, you will be in great care...Standard ivf process, egg retrieval, procedure of fertilization and PGD/S discussed realistic probabilities of success. 12 eggs, 7 embryos at day 3, 3 made it to day 5, 1 was normal

Do your research about potential course of treatment before committing to it. It may push plans a month but it is better to know what you should expect, look out and hope for throughout the treatment protocol chosen.
