The [RMA of Connecticut] clinic has a team approach and encourages complete wellness, including counseling, Accupunture and support groups. They aren’t just concerned about the medical aspects of infertility but your mental health as well..I have a high deductible plan... so I’ve spent a around $15000 so far on everything for the medications and procedures.
How was your experience with Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (The Fertility Partners Network clinic)?
I saw Dr. Williams for the consultations and follow up appointments. He also did my egg retrieval. We have only done one so far as when we did the first one... we had the hope we would find sperm when my husband had his procedure. Unfortunately that did not happen. We are currently in the process of using known sperm donors. Dr. Williams was incredibly understanding and compassionate when he had to give us the news that there was no sperm to be found and my husband would never be the biological father. This process is the hardest thing we’ve had to go through... mentally, physically and financially... but Dr. Williams and his team gives us as much support as they can.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (The Fertility Partners Network clinic)?
Don’t be afraid to keep asking questions and options if you aren’t satisfied with the answers. Advocate for yourself and Dr, Williams was always happy to explain everything in detail.

Any discussion we had with Dr. Williams, we never felt rushed or pressured to quickly finish the appointment or hang up the phone. He always knew exactly what our situation was and didn’t have to read of the chart to discuss the options. It feels like he really knows us and our case. We were given the news that my husband had no sperm and it was a shock. In a sense, worst case senario. Dr. Williams was there to talk us through the next steps and was comforting when I was crying and upset.

We went through one cycle of IVF. I was on a combination of Menopur and Gonal F to stimulate egg production... Then Ganirelix to mature the eggs and HCG to release them for the retrieval. They were able to get 9 mature eggs to freeze. With no sperm to create embryos we could not do a fresh transfer. So now we will be going through the process of counseling and a medical work up for his two brothers to be donors to at least our babies will be blood relatives in the future and share 25% of my husbands genes.

Pat is my primary nurse. She is a bit tough but I still really like her. She always returned my calls fairly quickly. She was very straight forward, didn’t beat around the bush with any concerns.

The clinic has a team approach and encourages complete wellness, including counseling, Accupunture and support groups. They aren’t just concerned about the medical aspects of infertility but your mental health as well. They understand how hard it is!

Morning monitoring was between 7 and 8am. It was first come, first serve basis. It was fairly quick appointments as long as you went early.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shaun Williams at Illume Fertility (The Fertility Partners Network clinic).
Out of pocket would have been $15,000 for one cycle of IVF... $5000 for the embryo testing. Cryopreservation is $1200 each cycle. I have a high deductible plan... so I’ve spent a around $15000 so far on everything for the medications and procedures. Using a known sperm donor will be costing us around $8000 (it’s about $4000 per person) but we are using both of his brothers.

He only does single embryo transfers because they said the research shows that multiple embryo transfer only increases your risk of multiples, it does not increase your likelihood of pregnancy.

When my wife decided to take over, they ran the insurance again and found out we actually did have coverage for everything. This has cost us thousands in interest from loans, and would have significantly impacted the treatments options we selected if we had known certain things were covered.

Ask questions. Keep in mind, he tells you the most positive statistics he can, and even if everything is perfect, it can still be difficult to conceive.

Dr. Williams is very sweet and gentle. I feel like he genuinely has our best interests at heart.

I did three IUI cycles with 100mg Clomid, which worked about as good as could be expected. The IUIs did not take. After that, he suggested injectables or Letrazole, but my wife and I decided we would rather try reciprocal IVF instead,since she is about 6 years younger, and we could not know for sure why IUI wasn't working. We are going through that process now.

Judit answered all my emails within the same day. When I had issues getting my medicine because my pharmacy ran out, she put it through to another pharmacy the same day.

2 huge things. 1. We ended up getting an email from our sperm bank letting us know they did not approve our request for reimbursement (which we never requested). Come to find out, the sperm bank mislabeled the vials, and gave me an ICI vial instead of an IUI vial. They used the vial in my first IUI attempt, but never disclosed if they washed the sperm before putting it inside me, and I had pretty bad cramps that time. They did not tell us ANY of this had occured. Had we not received the email from the sperm bank, we would have never known anything was wrong. 2. They initially told us our insurance wouldn't cover infertility treatments and we would have to pay out of pocket. So we took out a loan. When my wife decided to take over, they ran the insurance again and found out we actually did have coverage for everything. This has cost us thousands in interest from loans, and would have significantly impacted the treatments options we selected if we had known certain things were covered.

The out of pocket rate for IUI was 1200 per cycle with no medication included (medication costed about $120 total for Clomid and Ovidrel). Testing was covered by my insurance for the most part. Genetic test was $250. If you did a 3 pack it was $6000 and included 2 injectable cycles if needed. For Reciprocal IVF, I'm pretty sure we will hit our out of pocket max, and our insurance will cover the rest.

I was put on an antagonist protocol [by Dr. Shaun Williams] for my IVF cycle which resulted in 19 eggs retrieved with 15 mature and 100 percent fertilization rate. Then we only ended up with 2 embryos which were both graded B’s. It was very frustrating to only have 2 embryos in which neither worked. I was having symptoms of OHSS after retrieval so he recommended a freeze all and do a frozen transfer

Very good bed side manner and very compassionate but I feel as though he was so busy he did not take the time to research our case and get to the bottom of a diagnosis. I understand sometimes it is truly unexplained infertility but we have been trying to conceive for 3 years and we still have no answers. He always remained very positive about us and our future but the outcome was always different.

As a single mom to be I feel like there are definitely things that should've been discussed. As I'm entering my first IVF cycle with donor sperm, it hit me 2 days before my retrieval that I would like to also freeze eggs (in addition to embryos) if I have a good enough response. This was never recommended by my doctor [Dr. Williams]! ..Strengths include a calm, relaxing demeanor. If you're an anxious patient you would do well with him. But he's very impersonal and I felt like just a number.
Strengths are that it is a top of the line clinic [RMA - Norwalk] with it's cleanliness, technology, and capabilities. They also focus on the whole body and offer yoga, acupuncture, and support groups! Weaknesses are with the lack of compassion in some of the staff...Also would say communication is sometimes lacking...I'm also unhappy and disheartened that there was also a mistake when information that I relayed to a doctor was put into the wrong patient's file. This ultimately caused the lab to not freeze the last bit of donor sperm that I had.

All talk was robotic and clinical. Have seen him for over a year and don't think he even knows what I do professionally. Whereas another doctor knew asked and learned more about me during one monitoring session

No "infertility" issues per say. Just a single female that wants a baby. So started with a clomid/trigger IUI. 2nd IUI clomid was upped and follistim added. Resulted in a chemical pregnancy. 3rd IUI was follistim and trigger and was negative. Just had my first egg retrieval for IVF #1 and used follistim, menopur, ganirelix and hCG trigger. Resulted in 20 eggs retrieved.

My primary nurse was very knowledgeable and organized. But lacked in tenderness and compassion. The blood draw nurses were sweet. And the nurses in the egg retrieval section were amazing!!

They were pretty organized as long as you got there at 7 am on the dot. The closest office is about 30 minutes away and in order to get seen and get out and get to work on time I needed to be there the minute they opened.

As I'm entering my first IVF cycle with donor sperm, it hit me 2 days before my retrieval that I would like to also freeze eggs (in addition to embryos) if I have a good enough response. This was never recommended by my doctor! Thank goodness I was able to relay my desire in time and they were able to adjust the plans. Additionally, I mentioned several times how anxious I was because I only have 2 lifetime IVS and literally bought the last vial for my donor. He is no longer donating. I mentioned it again during one of my monitoring sessions with a different doctor. He said they could separate the vial and freeze the extra. Again, I didn't know this was an option! I said of course I'd like to do that. The information was not put in my chart; only verbally discussed with my doctor. My doctor then put those notes into the wrong patient's file. After my egg retrieval, the extra sperm was not refrozen.

He didn't push me into IVF and allowed me to make the decision for myself. felt cared for by him, like he was invested in my care...He shared more than just clinical ideas on how to improve my chances which meant a lot to me considering I like holistic approached to my health as well...Dr. Williams is a very compassionate and hands on doctor.
The clinic [RMA] had a new office and a clean, modern look...I like the holistic approach and used yoga and acupuncture. I also attended a few free events which helped me through my treatment....I also found the staff to be very friendly and understanding when I had difficulty scheduling an appointment. Whenever I saw a different doctor for monitoring, I felt like even though they didn't consult with me prior that they cared about me... I sometimes had to wait 10-20 minutes to be seen but usually only on the busy days like Monday mornings.

My diagnosis was hard to process and I felt like he was invested in my care. He shared more than just clinical ideas on how to improve my chances which meant a lot to me considering I like holistic approached to my health as well. He treated me like a person and seemed genuinely happy when I achieved positive results. I felt cared for by him and never questioned his competency which says a lot for me since I have had negative experiences with doctors that shook my trust in the past at prior centers. He is soft and gentle in his care.

I came to Dr. Williams with a balanced translocation and he uncovered PCOS as well which meant I would have difficulty keeping a pregnancy if I was so lucky as to achieve it to begin with considering I did not ovulate regularly. He didn't push me into IVF and allowed me to make the decision for myself. I could go forward with an IUI armed with the knowledge that I might miscarry or go to IVF with genetic testing of the embryos prior to transfer. I felt supported completely with whatever decision I made and eventually chose to do IVF which I'm so grateful that I did.

The clinic had a new office and a clean, modern look. It was quite the upgrade from prior doctors' offices that have the old medical building feel. They treat the whole patient and offer so many services which I utilized! I like the holistic approach and used yoga and acupuncture. I also attended a few free events which helped me through my treatment. They have great rates for my age group. I also found the staff to be very friendly and understanding when I had difficulty scheduling an appointment. Whenever I saw a different doctor for monitoring, I felt like even though they didn't consult with me prior that they cared about me.

It was first come first serve. I sometimes had to wait 10-20 minutes to be seen but usually only on the busy days like Monday mornings. They were quick, in and out appointments however I never felt rushed if I had additional questions that day.

I compared pricing for the services that I needed since I needed IVF and PGS testing. They were the most reasonably pricing considering I was a self pay patient. They also offered the only self pay IVF packages that included medications, too. Some facilities made me feel like they were the cheaper option because they had a lower quote but what they don't tell you (and I wouldn't have known if I didn't dig deeper) is that they didn't include meds which added thousands! In the end, RMA was the cheapest option.

Dr Williams had me do the 3 IUIs and when those weren't successful move to IVF. One cycle produced a viable embryo that passed chromosome testing but when implanted stopped growing. The second cycle the embryos stopped developing after day 3, Dr Williams was very up front with me about his reservations with doing another IVF with my own eggs. He suggested I could do another IUI if I really wanted to keep trying with my own eggs to reduce costs since I wasn't getting a lot of eggs at retrieval anyways. I did this but was unsuccessful so moved to donor eggs which resulted in a baby!

I provided a sperm sample. After the embryos were created, we waited a few days. Of the best embryos, Dr. Williams chose two. He implanted them into the carrier. This resulted in one baby. The process was repeated again for a second baby two years later.

The length of time on various meds seems interminable but go with it. If they say 21 days on estrogen before egg retrieval there is good reason for it. Although continuing injections for nine weeks also seems like a long time, it’s worth it if you are successful as I was. Even if you don’t think ISCI is worth the extra cost again, best to use every available option to only have to go through it once.

Dr. Williams knows my name and my face, has called me after hours to check on me after bad news or to answer a question, and has come in on his day off to personally handle my egg retrievals and embryo transfers....He has a very calming personality, which balances with my uptight personality. I feel he genuinely cares about me and my success, and I trust his approach without question...Dr. Williams is fantastic...He may appear reserved, but he will answer any question you have and is definitely on your side.
I actually look forward to appointments [at RMA - Danbury] so I can see the entire staff!...Even on days where everyone showed up at once, or there were more patients than normal, monitoring seems to go quickly and smoothly. I cannot think of an instance where I waited more than a few minutes...My nurse understands my needs, and adjusts her approach accordingly. When I received negative results, I felt that she was genuinely as disappointed as I was.

He has a very calming personality, which balances with my uptight personality. I feel he genuinely cares about me and my success, and I trust his approach without question.

He as been very accommodating to my travel since I am driving 1600 miles round trip for treatment...After talking with Dr Williams and telling him my story and all that we have been through. He suggested I do the ERA testing. Since we do not have any fertility coverage with our insurance he got me into the study with Igenomix to do the ERA for free.
ERA [at RMA of Connecticut] testing was free. FET transfer is $5100...The staff and Drs are very well organized and answer all questions. I really like how you are assigned your own nurse to contact for anything. The billing team is also very quick to get back with questions.
