She [Dr. Shauna McKinney] is very straight forward! She knows what she is doing, very knowledgeable, and is capable of making her patients understand as well. She has paperwork in regards to timeline, information, questions you might have etc that’s sent with you and it’s also accessible via app in the event you have questions or need to refer back to. She is abrupt though and I can see that rubbing people the wrong way. However, I can appreciate transparency and honesty.
I’ve done IUI twice and the protocol was the same each time [at Tulsa Fertility Center]...She [nurse] was always available if I had any additional questions! The team responds quickly via app and was always available to talk on the phone if necessary...IUI insemination costs $600 prior to inseminating. The ultrasounds are $250...after two failed IUI’s with no known fertility issues we have decided to do IVF...The clinics strengths are how readily they are available if you need to contact them for any reason. Their weaknesses are that they do have a high demand of patients because they are the only fertility clinic in Tulsa. As a result, they are very busy when we are there.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Like I had previously mentioned, she can at times be abrupt and that can rub people the wrong way. However, she means well and only has your best interests at heart.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
She’s great! Very personable and realistic. We have done 2 IUI’s unfortunately both resulted in negative pregnancy, but we are continuing with IVF.
Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Personally, I don’t struggle with infertility. As a result, my protocol wasn’t as invasive as others. Initially, we had several labs drawn. I’ve done IUI twice and the protocol was the same each time. Initially we did a baseline ultrasound preparing for ovulation. I took 5mg of clomid daily enhance my chances of multiple eggs. As a result, I would do my second ultrasound that showed if I had eggs. Then, would do a trigger shot at peak ovulation and come in 24-48 hours later to do IUI insemination.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center.
IUI is expensive unfortunately. My insurance covered some of the labs and some medication. etc. However, IUI insemination costs $600 prior to inseminating. The ultrasounds are $250. The trigger shot was not covered by my insurance and was $100. The sperm vials were also $1,000 a piece. Overall, after two IUI’s with labs and miscellaneous charges I spent in total $8,000-10,000.
Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
N/A I haven’t done IVF, yet. However, after two failed IUI’s with no known fertility issues we have decided to do IVF.
Dr. McKinney is very warm, personable and compassionate. She is very knowledgable and communicated at every pivot why we were changing direction or strategy and how it would impact us. There were times however that I felt like she used statistics to support her decisions, even if they were inconsistent or contradictory to things she had previously used to support a decision...She performed by ultrasounds retrieval, trial transfer and transfer
Overall this [Tulsa Fertility Center] clinic does not provide patients with the support resources (mental health, available grants/financing options, etc.) needed. The two doctors very much work independently and patient experience is solely based on the luck of the draw on nurse coordinator and the mood of the receptionist that day.

There were times however that I felt like she used statistics to support her decisions, even if they were inconsistent or contradictory to things she had previously used to support a decision. I have been a patient for almost four years with no success yet. There have definitely been times that I have questioned her ability to get us to the finish line, even going as far as seeking another opinion to validate the path we had taken to date.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Do your research before you appointments. Come with questions written down. She sometimes can get off track and it will be your duty to keep her on topic to get your questions answered. There are several topics that she will not be able to answer (ordering meds, costs, etc.) and she will defer to her nursing and financial team. They are not quite as knowledgable or dependable. Press her when needed.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
By Dr. McKinney, I felt treated like a human. She performed by ultrasounds retrieval, trial transfer and transfer. I never felt like I had a shortage of access to her. However, I definitely felt like a number to the nursing staff.
Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Three IVF cycles for retrieval with ICSI and PGS testing. Two with follistim.
Eight FET cycles (three medicated, five natural) to get to a lining thick enough to transfer on.
One FET transfer of two embryos. Transferred on a 7mm lining. No pregnancy.
One embryo left.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Tulsa Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Nichole)
Nichole was unreliable. I understand that in her role she has to repeat information a lot, but there are efficiencies that could be made as a clinic to provide all necessary information and support to patients. I often felt like I had to follow up frequently and seek information and support resources elsewhere. There was a lot of information that I felt should have proactively been communication in order to properly set patient expectations. More often than not it was assumed that patients already had knowledge of most of the information.
Their communication is primarily through an eIVF portal. Where other clinics have secondary methods to reach patients or at least alert them that new messages are available in the portal, TFC doesn't have any of this. If you are not proactively checking multiple times daily, you will likely miss messages and potentially appointments.

Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
Dr. McKinney was careful to treat it on a case by case basis dependent on all the factors (lining thickness, tri-lam, estrogen and progesterone levels) before she made a recommendation.
What specific things went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center?
she [Dr. Shauna McKinney] takes her time to explain everything. She makes it personal...Your family success is her job and she takes that very seriously. I felt confident every step of the way with her...I am a 34 yr female with a wife. We are doing reciprocal IVF. I was placed on Gonal-f with an HCG trigger. We had 8 eggs at retrieval with two fertilized eggs. My wife will carry...We took the advice of the doctor to use both embryos at transfer. Transfer was postponed because of COVID-19 until June.
We had a great experience with everyone [at Tulsa Fertility Center] but the front office clerk-Kisha. My wife and I both use Community Care insurance. She is a physician and I am a nurse. We were told we couldn’t have an appointment without a prior authorization. This process took months without a response. We went to another doctor with poor consult-Dr. Bundren. He told us we didn’t have any options available for treatment. We finally called Tulsa Fertility back and they told us we could make an appointment but would be self pay. Obviously we can afford that but was never told that it was an option. We wasted a lot of time because of that.

Strength-doctors and nurses are great
Male phlebotomists was very bad at his job.

Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
We took the advice of the doctor to use both embryos at transfer. Transfer was postponed because of COVID-19 until June.
Our consultation [with Dr. Shauna McKinney] was extremely rushed and I didn’t have time to ask most of the questions I had. She mainly told us why we were there (which we already knew) and then sent the nurse in to handle paperwork. We left feeling extremely confused and not sure where to go from there... I didn’t get a chance to truly explain our story and what we’ve tried with other doctors to inform her of our past treatments. I have PCOS and when I tried to bring that up she said that it didn’t matter because it was more about my husband and his fertility issues than mine which made me feel a little put off.
My main problem [at Tulsa Fertility Center] is with the lack of communication between both Dr. and patient and nurse and patient. I feel they should have a little more compassion when it comes to each individual story even tho they’ve heard a million different stories, each story is hard and special that patient and it should be treated as such...They would never give us a straight answer to how much we would have to owe until AFTER it was over and we had no choose but to pay whatever amount they told us. It felt very deceitful and very frustrating...They’re major weakness is communication with the patients. E

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Tulsa Fertility Center.
The nursing staff especially the front desk seemed like they didn’t know anything going. I tried asking a question and was told to multiple questions that she wasn’t sure and I could ask a different nurse whenever we came back for treatment. We didn’t even pick our treatment and our question was about the different treatments! They came across very uninformed! The front desk lady who handles calls and payments was clueless. Every time I called I was told she wouldn’t know how much we had to pay until after our appointment. Once we got there she called us up three different times because she said she forgot to charge us for three different things! Very annoying.
Describe your experience with Tulsa Fertility Center.
They’re major weakness is communication with the patients. Every nurse or staff member there wants to refer you to a different person for a simple question. I don’t know if they truly don’t know or simply don’t care to answer my question. Many of my questions went unanswered.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center.
So far the only cost we had was for our consultation and sperm analysis. But that was a frustrating process. They would never give us a straight answer to how much we would have to owe until AFTER it was over and we had no choose but to pay whatever amount they told us. It felt very deceitful and very frustrating.

every appointment I saw Dr. McKinney. She performs all of the ultrasounds herself. ... Dr. McKinney is energectic and sometimes a whirlwind when talking with her. 4 IUIs, we used Femera, low-dose Follistim, and trigger shot. No positives.
2 retrievals— both used lupron for suppression, first used follistim, second used Gonal-F. Both resulted in 1 embryo.
3-preparations for FET. First 2 used Lupron, estrogen patches, and vaginal estrogen. 2nd one also added sildenafill suppository. Both FETs were cancelled due to thin lining, but 2nd was better. Currently doing 3rd FET with adjustment of injectable estrogen instead of patches.

This is a nice clinic and the staff are friendly and easy to talk to. The only issues I’ve had we’re related to submitting my consent paperwork prior to treatment. There have been a couple times I emailed to them the paperwork, and then received a phone call that it was not turned in. Even with these technical problems, they have been very friendly and understanding.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center.
I think costs were comparable to type rates for fertility in the US. $10,000-$15,000 for retrieval, $3,000 - $5,000 for transfer.
Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
Dr. McKinney explained the pros and cons of each to us, and left the decision completely up to us. There has been no pressure to choose one over the other.
What specific things went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center.
The only thing is miscommunication about me sending in consent paperwork (mentioned in previous comment). This was minor and did not affect my ability to complete treatment cycle
Dr McKinney did a good job with explaining the procedures and what to expect and was blunt about our chances of conceiving natural, with IUI, and with IVF. At only 19-20 years old she never once made me feel as if I was “to young” to be going to her clinic for help. One downfall is that when my first IUI failed and I wanted to begin injections I was told “everything went perfect there’s no need to change your meds” even though in my eyes it did not result in a pregnancy therefore it did not go perfect.
The staff [Tulsa Fertility Center] are amazing but they don’t listen to what the patient really wants. This clinic just uses their basic protocols instead of making each patient an individualized plan of care. The clinic itself was very nice and clean... They told me I was unable to schedule an appointment with dr McKinney in the middle of a treatment cycle and that I would have to hold off on starting IUI #3 and schedule an appointment

They told me I was unable to schedule an appointment with dr McKinney in the middle of a treatment cycle and that I would have to hold off on starting IUI #3 and schedule an appointment if I wanted to discuss changing anything. I felt I already waited enough and if I’m paying for a treatment there should be no reason why I can’t meet the Dr in the middle of the treatment.

Dr McKinney’s office knew who I was the minute I walked through the door by appointment number 2. When I went to the desk to check in I hardly ever had to tell them my name
Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
For both my IUIs I went in once between day 2-5 for baseline ultrasound and bloodwork, then I was put on 5mg of letrazole day 5-9, mid cycle ultrasound between day 12-15, 1st I had only 1 follicle and the 2nd I had 1 good size and 1 that. Plus possibly catch up, day after midcycle ultrasound I would trigger with ovidril at 8pm then go in for IUI 36hrs later, 7dpiui progesterone bloodwork, and 14dpiui HCG bloodwork. Each cycle costed around $800 total. Both cycles failed. I believe due to the fact I ovulated earlier than the 36hr mark but her protocol is IUI 36 hours after IUI

One IUI cost around $900 total with meds, ultrasounds, and bloodwork. That’s a noninjection cycle with no insurance coverage. Our quote on IVF was $12000 down + meds
Dr McKinney never rushed our appointments and she answered every question in a manner we were able to understand. She provided information on all options and allowed us to choose the one that made the most sense for our family. I was afraid we would be required to do several rounds of IUIs before we would be allowed to explore IVF, but due to our diagnosis, we were able to pursue IVF in the beginning. We spent seven months from our earliest blood test to the frozen embryo transfer - making the process much quicker than we had anticipated.
The staff [at Tulsa Fertility Center] reviewed our history and were able to discuss health concerns from the beginning...I was overwhelmed by the amount of medical history that was requested BEFORE my initial consultation. I had no idea why they would need all of that two weeks before my appointment, but I learned after meeting the staff that they want to study and prepare so that the best form of treatment is presented for the couple's specific needs.
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr McKinney is the most intelligent human being I have ever met and her attention to detail was excellent. She never promised success, just that she would do everything within her power to ensure the highest chance of success which made us feel like we were more than numbers or dollar signs. Dr McKinney held my hand and hugged me when I cried at my appointments and she explained everything in a way that was not overwhelming. No one wants to walk through the doors at her clinic, but since we had to be there I am so glad we had her to be our guide through the infertility journey.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Write ALL of your questions down and ask every single one of them. So your research beforehand and be your own advocate. If you do not want to do certain things, be vocal. The doctor cannot read your mind. We knew we wanted to give ourselves the best chance of a successful pregnancy and live birth, regardless of costs and we expressed that in the beginning.

10-12 days of stims: Follistim (50-250u) and Ganirelix (3-5 days) Follistim to stimulate the ovaries and produce eggs. Ganirelix to slow the maturation and allow the smaller follicles to catch up to the larger ones.
Trigger shot of Ovidrel.
FET: Birth control for one month before transfer. Approx 30 days of Lupron to suppress reproductive system. Estrogen patches, 1-4 changed every other day, to thicken lining during weeks before FET and through week 10 of pregnancy. Progesterone in oil 5 days before FET and through week 9 of pregnancy because the pregnancy was unnatural and the placenta had not taken over production.

The nurses were always accommodating at appointments and always passed along any questions or concerns to my doctor. The patient portal allowed me to communicate with the nurses on an as-needed basis and that convenient feature helped ease my mind when I had a question but wasn't sure to whom it should be directed.

Egg retrieval cycle and most tests associated with cycle $13,000-$14,500
Egg retrieval medication: $7,500
FET procedure: $5,000
FET meds: $2,500
Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
TFC has ethical and moral basis for transferring no more than two embryos during a cycle because excessive multiples not only endangers the lives of the fetuses, the mother's safety is severely jeopardized. For those seeking treatment, not in the advanced maternal age bracket, one to two embryos may be transferred.
Very direct and confident in her treatment plan. [Dr. McKinney] Started us off slowly so we didn't overstimulate and explained risks of mulitples very clearly. Difficult at times coordinating with her office though since we are not from the Tulsa area....First IUI - Fermara for 5 days and produced 1 mature follicle. Did not get pregnant with IUI Second IUI - Fermara for 5 days plus several days of FSH injections. Lowest dosage of FSH to encourage two follicles for this cycle.
The office admins [Tulsa Fertility Ctr] were snarky and difficult to work with at times. The receptionist was rude and we always had issues with our insurance. It was the worst part of the whole experience...Communication was limited to their patient portal and sometimes it would take them a long time to get back to you. When you are working with a time sensitive cycle it was stressful and had me worried that I wouldn't hear from them in time.

The office admins were snarky and difficult to work with at times. The receptionist was rude and we always had issues with our insurance. It was the worst part of the whole experience. Dr. McKinney discovered I had a very low ovarian reserve for my age. She told me the most aggressive route would be to harvest as many eggs as I could before trying to become pregnant. This is because eggs can’t be retrieved during pregnancy, and my ovarian reserve would only further diminish as time passes. We went through one round of IVF and retrieved 8 eggs. We are still waiting to hear back how many made it to day 5. We plan on doing 1-2 more rounds of egg retrieval before transferring any embryos.

Dr. McKinney connected eith me and although she was blunt she was very easy to talk to and made us feel like we had a plan we could try....Despite having two failed cycles with Dr. McKinney I had been really happy with her until i saw another dr recently who was shocked that in 2016 she did day 3 PGS testing and fresh transfer since the standard for some time has been day 5 biopsy and PGS testing followed by an FET...we still wonder if this is why only 2 embryos were normal out of 11 tested.
The financial department [Tulsa Fertility Ctr] was frustrating. They would respond to emails and phone calls. The front desk was friendly and accommodating. They have a wonderful person named Patty who draws blood and is AMAZING at her job....Our IVF cycles were about 12-13 thousand dollars. PGS testing was 5,000 with 2500 being paid to the testing place and 2500 being paid to the clinic.

Also my current Dr figured out that I have a rare congenital uterine abnormality (uterine didelphys) and although this wasn't totally Dr. McKinney fault as the radiologist who incorrectlt interpreted the results of the MRI she ordered after having and HSG that indicated a possible mullerian abnormality...I wish she would have pushed a little more and asked for the CD images to look at it herself. I also wish she would have done a hysteroscopy done before my IVF cycles.; my current Dr is doing this and I have been told it helps to show the Dr more of the uterus and what to expect as well as if there is any infection. I wish she would have done one of these...Maybe one of our cycles would have worked then.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Do your own research and ask about other possible tests to be done, advocate for yourself and you can also ask to get her partner Dr. Prough's advice if you want.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?

Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
For my two IVF cycles the medicines I took were follistem, ganirelix, PIO, the trigger shot. One thing i thought Dr. McKinney did well was raising my dose of follistem from cycle 1 to cycle 2 and waiting a little longer before retrieving on the second cycle and we had much better results as far as good eggs etc.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Tulsa Fertility Center.
The nursing staff was wonderful. I did get shamed a little when one of the IVF coordinators (was not a nurse) got upset with me when I was just a little short on my follistem and I had to be given some that was donated. She was angry that we were able to tell the pharmacy that we needed one less pen of follistem as we had some left over from our previous cycle. She said we shouldn't have been able to do this. I understand her point but I also understand where I was coming from since the pens were $1100 each!

Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
Dr. McKinney simply told us they would not transfer more than two. She did say that transferring two increases your odds that one will implant but I have heard conflicting data since then so I'm not sure what to think.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center.
The financial department of the clinic we had some trouble with. The person we worked with was often gone and wouldn't return emails and calls.
We underwent several IUIs, a cancelled IVF, and a failed IVF before Dr. McKinney happened to mention that in addition to advanced maternal age and low AMH (which was normal before the two-month delay we experienced after starting with TFC), we also had a problem on the male side...We worked with Dr. McKinney for over a year, and throughout the entire process, were provided nothing but incomplete information and frustration.
At our initial visit [at Tulsa Fertility Center], we were instructed to complete our lab work and then we’d be able to schedule our treatment. After not hearing back for two weeks, the nurse asked me to schedule a follow-up visit, which we had been told we didn’t need to do. In addition, I was assured that all of our previous records had been received, but in this two-week-later communication, was told that in fact, not all of the records were received.

His test results indicated that he was on the very low end of the range for a particular number (but in the “normal” range according to the report we have), and we were never told that it was a problem until our post-failed-IVF appointment. Dr. McKinney couldn’t believe that she never mentioned it, and just stated, “Well, that’s why we were doing ICSI,” but did not express any sympathy as to why were upset that we weren’t told specifically prior to that point.

Don't go here unless you like to feel like a statistic.
Describe the protocols Shauna McKinney used in your cycles at Tulsa Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I used the Ganirelix protcol with Follistim to stimulate ovarian production. My first attempt only produced 3 eggs, so she adjusted the next round to increase the dosage. I never felt that the doctor was able to manipulate her decisions or set expectations based on my specific situation.

In addition, I was assured that all of our previous records had been received, but in this two-week-later communication, was told that in fact, not all of the records were received. TFC was missing my most recent pap smear and my boyfriend’s test results. You would think that it would be simple for one professional to be in contact with another to ensure that all these records had been received. Instead, I wasn’t notified until two weeks after-the-fact, after being told that everything had been received, that they were missing my Pap smear result. In all, it took 6 weeks and at least 10-20 phone calls on my part to get that last little bit of information transferred, which of course, delayed our treatment for two months. It’s entirely possible that these were my last fertile months; my bloodwork afterward showed a decreased hormone level.
I underwent many IUIs and two IVFs without any significant pain, so I’m not a wimp. However, there was one procedure after which I experienced such extreme cramping, I had tears in my eyes and could barely stand up. I hobbled out of my exam room and asked if they had any Tylenol or Advil, and not one person looked up from their computer or offered to help me up front.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center.
My advice for people seeking fertility treatment in the Tulsa area: go somewhere else. We worked with Dr. McKinney for over a year, and throughout the entire process, were provided nothing but incomplete information and frustration. To be clear, this review and our experience would be the same regardless of the outcome. We did not get pregnant after 2 cycles of IVF, but I’ve been planning to write this review regardless of the outcome.
We had started IUI cycles before we moved to Oklahoma, and our initial impression of TFC was very positive due to their organized process. Unfortunately, that process is not flexible for those who have already undergone treatments elsewhere. Problems with starting their treatment after starting at another clinic was the beginning of our tiresome journey, and I wish we had moved to a different clinic when these problems first arose.
At our initial visit, we were instructed to complete our lab work and then we’d be able to schedule our treatment. Although the staff seems very nice, they are fairly insensitive. I underwent many IUIs and two IVFs without any significant pain, so I’m not a wimp. I hobbled out of my exam room and asked if they had any Tylenol or Advil, and not one person looked up from their computer or offered to help me up front.

Our final IVF cycle failed, and instead of getting a phone call (which they indicate you will receive if it fails), I found out on the portal. Logging into their portal expecting good news (since we didn’t get a phone call), and seeing a blank egg report with the words “no viable embryos” was just beyond words. The only good thing about having completed our cycles with TFC is that we don’t have to deal with them anymore. If we decide to continue treatment, we will travel outside of Oklahoma.
She [Dr. McKinney] is very friendly and personable for the most part. I had one experience that kind of left me feeling disappointed with her. At my final ultrasound before trigger, 15 follicles were counted, however; only 8 were retrieved at my retrieval. When I asked why not more, she did explain that not all were mature but then proceeded to tell me that she wouldn't come to my work and question how I did my job...No rationale was given to me, the patient, as to why certain medications were used instead of others.
Patient education [at Tulsa Fertility Center] needs to be improved greatly. All the info they give you is electronic so you can't really ask questions if you're not sure about something...I almost had to wait till the next month to get started because they did not get my prescription of provera called in to the pharmacy when they said they would.10,740 for the basic IVF with ICSI 4,500 for meds 895 for trial transfer/SIS And probably 2000 more for the Ovarian Reserve test and others test/appts.
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
She doesn't spend much time in the room after the 'important' stuff was done. If you have questions be sure to have them ready and start talking as soon as she gets done. Nothing is explained as to what exactly she is looking for at the baseline/miscycle ultrasounds. She is very friendly and personable for the most part. I had one experience that kind of left me feeling disappointed with her. At my final ultrasound before trigger, 15 follicles were counted, however; only 8 were retrieved at my retrieval. When I asked why not more, she did explain that not all were mature but then proceeded to tell me that she wouldn't come to my work and question how I did my job. I was a little taken aback, but as I was still affected by the anesthesia, I didn't say anything more. I really like her overall but that one comment just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Overlapped BC and 10ui Lupron for 4 days then only 10ui Lupron for 7 days. Lowered to 5ui after that.
Added in 200ui AM and 150ui PM Folistim and Dexamethosone for 9 days.
Trigger at 11pm on day 10.
Retrieval in day 12.
Started Doxycycline and Medrol for 5 days.
I had 15 follicles, 8 eggs, 4 mature, 3 fertilized, 1 made it to day 5 transfer.
Waiting now for beta.

We've gone through 4 IUI cycles [with Dr. McKinney] in which we used follistim and ovidrel. After the 4th, we decided to move on to IVF with ICSI (to help with male factor infertility, low motility) using Follistim...Our first cycle was cancelled due to a cyst. We made it to retrieval during the second cycle but weren't able to transfer after PGS testing deemed the remaining embryos weren't of a good quality. After undergoing 2 surgeries (one to drain a cyst by my gynecologist and one to remove it by Dr. McKinney and her partner Dr. Prough) we started our 2nd official IVF cycle in late March.
They [Tulsa Fertility Center] have all been so kind and understanding. I found out today that most of the employees in the office have gone through fertility treatments of some sort. That means a lot to me because it means they really understand the process...It is very organized. I've been in and out quickly which is important to me because we travel 2 hours one way for appointments. Even though it's a quick process, I've NEVER felt rushed. They always take time to answer any questions we have.

I'll continue to go this week until they are ready to retrieve my eggs.

I thought Dr.McKinney was up front, direct, and a realist, but also had compassion for my situation at the same time. I feel like she cares about me and my family even though we are one of thousands of patients she sees.
I realize the nursing staff [at Tulsa Fertility Center] is busy, but sometimes I do feel like a number to them. They always answer my questions, but I feel like I'm annoying them at times. But they are friendly and helpful....The front end of office isn't that organized. I had a very difficult time getting started because no one will answer the phone when you call and if you miss their return call you end up playing phone tag. But once you get on the schedule and past the intake coordinator, it's better.

Dr. McKinney always had a smile on her face and always welcomed me with a warm hug... I never felt like any question was to small and she always reassured me every step of the way. There were only a few appointments I didn't see her. And only for small stuff like blood draining and sonograms. Every big appointment she was there and sat and listened and answered every question....Dr. McKinney showed she really cared about us during treatment. My body responded very good to the treatment Dr. McKinney wrote up. I started out taking birth control and after a month I started Lupron injections to help suppress my system. After a week or so of that injection we added Gonel-f. I would take an injection in the morning and in the evening. I stemmed for 11 days. At that time I was told I could use the trigger shot. My body responded great. I went in for egg reieval and they collected 16 eggs. Out of the 16, 11 were mature and 7 fertilized. We did a 5 day transfer of two embryos. Unfortunately we miscarried a few weeks later.

We had amazing insurance so I just paid a co pay. But the medication if I didn't have insurance would have been between 5,000-8,000 depending on the treatment plan. I believe the ivf process would have been around 10,000-13,000.

How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
I couldn't have expected any greater experience. Infertility is such an extremely hard and difficult thing to experience, but if any light has come from it, I have had an incredible doctor to treat me through it all. She has was been very informative and given me all the options that I have available. She is always optimistic, but yet never fails to inform me of the risks and reasonable outcomes. Try to ask all your questions in the consult because you won’t really get to ask her [Dr. McKinney] questions or schedule another consult to ask questions during a cycle...During my initial consult I felt very much like a human. She is very personable. I feel like a human during my interactions with Dr. McKinney but otherwise feel like a number when in a treatment cycle...She’s very personable and knowledgeable. I feel like she looks at the entire picture and recommends based on that. She has a very pleasant bedside manner too. I feel a little like the treatment plan hasn’t been super personalized yet but we’ve just had one cycle.
I’m still trying to decide pros and cons as we have only had one cycle [with Tulsa Fertility Center]. Some of it doesn’t feel super personalized with the treatment plan. It may be different for ivf but so far for our iui cycle it’s not super personalized...They [nurses] get back to you at the end of the day. I was a little frustrated initially because I didn’t fully understand their process...Try to ask all your questions in the consult because you won’t really get to ask her [Dr. McKinney] questions or schedule another consult to ask questions during a cycle

Describe Shauna McKinney's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tulsa Fertility Center.
Dr McKinney is warm, caring and knowledgable. She was willing to try various treatments but was unable to help us achieve a successful pregnancy...We immediately went to IVF with ICSI due to male factor infertility and PCOS. We did not initially test our embryos but we were unsuccessful with our first IVF cycle which included a fresh transfer of two embryos and two frozen transfers of two embryos each. We had two chemical pregnancies from our frozen transfers.
This clinic's [Tulsa Fertility Center] biggest weakness I believe to be the lab. The embryologists seem to be knowledgable and well trained, but our embryos did not do as well in the lab in Tulsa as they did in our second clinic in Dallas....This clinic had occasional issues with losing appointments when managing my care as a satellite clinic for my second attempt at IVF at another clinic in Dallas.

Dr. McKinney was so great! She never sugar coated anything and was very thorough in her explanations of each step and what she was looking at and for with each sonogram. She gave us hope after a lot of disappointment and struggle. She not only cared, she really listened to us and didn’t ever rush during appointments. I would definitely go back to be treated by her, if we decide to try for another baby.
It can get very busy in there [Tulsa Fertility Center] , but they get you through very quickly. You’re never in the waiting room too long. Doctors and nurses are very friendly. The nurses were great, and helped me to feel relaxed when I would get nervous before each ultrasound...Dr McKinney was wonderful. She always made us feel comfortable and she was always very thorough. We loved how she always “kept it real” with us and never gave us false hope. She’s very personable and really cares about her patients.

What specific things went wrong at Tulsa Fertility Center?
I had a good experience. [with Dr Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center]. I like getting to the point and straight facts. She was fact driven and I think catered to what I needed in a physician. When I found out I was having twins and started crying she became the caring physician that I needed at that moment....She's works fast so have all your questions written out ahead of time....She knew we needed IVF/ICSI because of my husband's low semen count from the beginning. She had ruled me out as a reason for the infertility. She based the timing of the retrieval on the number of eggs and my lab values.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center.
Dr. McKinney is unprofessional to say the least. She follows a system and doesn't get away from that system... is WAY in over her head. She cannot keep up with the volume of clients... We were fortunate to get pregnant(10 weeks pregnant) and are still very disappointed with how we were treated...will talk for 5 minutes about you, 20 minutes about her personal life, and then charge you extra because you had a complicated office visit.
Tulsa Fertility Center is by far the worst doctors office that we have ever been to. The lack of care for patients is shocking and they continue to stay in business because there are no other IVF clinics in the local area...We have been there for roughly 10 months and were so happy to finally be finished with our care. I have listed a few things that we went through over our 10 months at Tulsa Fertility Center. We were fortunate to get pregnant(10 weeks pregnant) and are still very disappointed with how we were treated at Tulsa Fertility Center. 1. The only thing that keeps patients going to this fertility center is the location and the fact that nothing else is around in terms of IVF treatments.
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr. McKinney is unprofessional to say the least. She follows a system and doesn't get away from that system. You are a number and if you have any questions, she will look at you like you are dumb and then come up with some quick response to get you out the door. She will constantly lie to you, be late to appointments, and be short and quick.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Start acting like a professional. Be courteous to your patients and respect them.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr. McKinney is WAY in over her head. She cannot keep up with the volume of clients. The staff hate working there and it is obvious that there is tension among everyone in the office.
Describe your experience with Tulsa Fertility Center.
Tulsa Fertility Center is a complete mess. We have been there for roughly 10 months and were so happy to finally be finished with our care.
2. You are a number when you walk in and walk out. They do not care about your feelings, they do not know your name, and do not care for the female through the IVF process.
3. The staff do not like each other and it is very obvious.
4. The staff will lie to you about anything and everything.
5. They do everything on their schedule and will keep you on shots and medicine for an extended period of time to fit into their schedule.
6. They get a kickback from the online pharmacy that they use. If you try to get meds at another pharmacy, they will be very mad at you and basically tell you that they will not be correct.
7. Once you find out if you are or are not pregnant, they will start charging you for every service without telling you.
8. For each appointment, you will wait roughly 30-45 minutes to go back to a room and then another 30-45 minutes to see the doctor.
9. The doctor will talk for 5 minutes about you, 20 minutes about her personal life, and then charge you extra because you had a complicated office visit.
10. If you ask questions about the process of IVF, they will take 2-3 days to respond through the portal and then make you feel dumb but an overcomplicated response that makes no sense.
11. They will only contact you through a portal and you DO NOT get notified when you have a message in the portal so you basically need to check it at all times.
12. The most stress throughout the IVF process was not knowing what was happening next, what medicine to take, and really just a lack of communication from the Doctor to us.
If you live in or near Tulsa, you have options. Please go visit other doctors in Dallas, OKC, Kansas City, Wichita, etc. DO NOT settle for Tulsa fertility.

Tulsa Fertility Center is by far the worst doctors office that we have ever been to. The lack of care for patients is shocking and they continue to stay in business because there are no other IVF clinics in the local area.
Dr. McKinney is personable and happy to answer questions. For the most part, I never felt rushed and she always seemed up to date on my particular case and details...Occasionally, she could come off as dismissive or arrogant, but those instances were rare and definitely didn't overshadow the overall appreciation that I had for her time and expertise...We did a total of 4 IUIs, the first 3 with clomid/monitoring/trigger shot, and the last and final one we added injectibles as a "hail mary." They were pretty standard IUI cycles with regular bloodwork and ultrasounds. I have a blocked tube and my husband has slight morphology issues, so we were treated basically as "unexplained" and went forward with regular IUIs, planning on IVF following the 4th IUI.
Protocols
There were a few communication issues [at Tulsa Fertility Center], but overall, the nurses were very responsive through the portal and explained things well the few times I had to call. The staff in general were kind and organized!...Each full IUI cycle was about $1,500-$2,000 depending on how many ultrasounds I needed, and more for the last cycle where we added injectibles. This is completely out of pocket, no insurance coverage.
How was your experience with Shauna McKinney at Tulsa Fertility Center?
Dr. McKinney is obviously intelligent and knowledgeable. It puts me at ease when a doctor quotes current research, which she did multiple times. I loved that I saw her at every appointment, and she did every ultrasound so I could ask questions during and get detailed responses. I'm the type of patient that wants to understand every single step and why decisions are being made! Occasionally, she could come off as dismissive or arrogant, but those instances were rare and definitely didn't overshadow the overall appreciation that I had for her time and expertise.

I highly recommend Dr. McKinney for anyone with fertility issues, and for treatments up to IUI, but I was planning to go elsewhere for IVF. TFC has pretty bad IVF success rates (at least back when I looked in 2018) and I also wanted a shared risk program, so I had an appointment scheduled in Oklahoma City for IVF when I got pregnant with the 4th IUI.
