only met with Dr. Rothenberg a couple times, as she went on maternity leave after we started treatment...specifically gave my partner (transfemme) such kind, compassionate care...not ovulating on my own...10mg of Letrozole each day for 5 days...HCG shot...shot was followed by timed intercourse at home. For the third, it was followed by an IUI.
[Pacific NW Fertility] is very kind and sweet, from the nurses to the doctors...are all knowledgeable and not stand-offish at all...lab is also very kind...main weakness is the billing department...nursing staff was amazing! I only have positive experiences with them. They were all very kind, gentile, and understanding.
How was your experience with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
We only met with Dr. Rothenberg a couple times, as she went on maternity leave after we started treatment. However, she was very kind and respectful during out conversations. She took the time to listen to our concerns and treated us like human beings and not like patients.

Try to get a meeting with her when she is back from her maternity leave! I wish we saw more of her.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
We spoke to her over the phone twice and she was very kind and warm each time. She specifically gave my partner (transfemme) such kind, compassionate care. She asked trans care specific questions and made sure my girlfriend was comfortable with the language being used and the care plan.
Describe the protocols Stephanie Rothenberg used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
Because I was not ovulating on my own, Dr. Rothenberg had me take 10mg of Letrozole each day for 5 days. This was after blood work and an ultrasound. This was followed by an ultrasound to see my follicle count and size, and to determine when I would do an HCG shot. For the first two cycles, the shot was followed by timed intercourse at home. For the third, it was followed by an IUI.

The nursing staff was amazing! I only have positive experiences with them. They were all very kind, gentile, and understanding.
Describe your experience with Pacific NW Fertility.
This clinic is very kind and sweet, from the nurses to the doctors. And they are all knowledgeable and not stand-offish at all. The lab is also very kind. I don't like that the lab has televisions playing porn in the collection rooms. I did request that the T.V.s be turned off at the time of my partner's collections, as she had a previous addiction to porn, and this was forgotten by the staff by the second collection. The main weakness is the billing department. I have been treated at this clinic for 4 months and its been a struggle to understand and get consistent information/communication regarding billing.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility.
I have not been billed yet, and I've been seeing this clinic for 4 months. This is due to my insurance being unreliable. I am expecting a bill soon, and we do not know for how much.
Describe Stephanie Rothenberg's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Pacific NW Fertility.
We did not do that.
How competent was Pacific NW Fertility at LGBTQ+ care?
Yes! Everyone was very welcoming and kind to me and my partner, who are both trans and have our fertility impacted by our transitions. Every doctor and nurse was knowledgeable and kind regarding our identities and medical transition history.
What specific things went wrong at Pacific NW Fertility?
Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Pacific NW Fertility.
I mentioned this in one of the previous questions, but my partner has a history with porn addiction and we asked for the T.V.s in collection rooms to be turned off, as they are normally on and displaying porn channels and titles. This was ignored/forgotten by her second collection.
There have also been times when the nurses were unsure if I was doing IUI or not, but I was able to resolve this easily.
Dr. Rothenberg's strength is her communications. She clearly explains the process, procedure, meds, and risks. I felt like I knew what to expect and understood what I needed to do as next steps. If I had to choose an area she could improve on it would be her warmness at bedside. I feel like she cares and is cheering me on though...does a good job of not giving too much information.
Everyone that I met at the [Pacific NW Fertility] clinic was very kind and easy to work with. Getting through to the front desk to make appointments was very difficult. There were several times that my message didn't get a response. Most of the time it was best to email my nursing team to get appointments and a response...Dr. Rothenberg's strength is her communications. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
To have a list of questios going into appointments and to take notes. It is a lot of information to take in. However, I feel Dr Rothenberg does a good job of not giving too much information. But it is hard to remember everything. So notes and questions would be helpful.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
Stephanie Rothenberg has been very caring. All of my appointments with her she has been willing to take the extra time to explain things thoroughly. I feel like she has cheered me on in my efforts and progress

Dr. Rothenberg definitely treated me like a human. She was kind in explaining the process of what we could do to make sure we achieved a pregnancy. She listened to my concerns, she helped guide me through the first failed cycle with care and was very understanding of my fears when we first found out I was pregnant...we enjoyed our care with her. She was kind, and patient. And had an amazing bedside manner.
Their [Pacific Northwest Fertility] strengths are they definitely understand their patients are there for a reason. They are so kind and know that infertility is such a devastating experience that their patients have. They treat everyone with the utmost respect and care and are just wonderful...Everyone that we spoke to that wasn’t Dr Rothenberg treated us just as well as Dr Rothenberg herself. They were thoughtful, kind and just absolutely amazing.
How was your experience with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
Dr Rothenberg was absolutely wonderful. She listened to every concern and gave thorough and thoughtful answers. She was very understanding when we wanted to do one cycle of timed intercourse before jumping straight to iui. She didn’t give any push back and I really appreciated that because it was ultimately our decision and she handled it with grace. We had a plan for if it didn’t work. She was very thorough about testing and making sure not only everything was good on my end, but making sure everything was aligned with my husband as well as we also have male factor infertility. She was just amazing. She told me after our first initial visit she was confident that I would be pregnant within 6 months. Which I was skeptical because we had a bad experience with a previous clinic and I wasn’t as hopeful. We ended up pregnant with our second cycle seeing Dr. Rothenberg. She lived up to that statement and we enjoyed our care with her. She was kind, and patient. And had an amazing bedside manner.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
You will not regret seeing her.

Describe the protocols Stephanie Rothenberg used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
I have PCOS. I did not ovulate on my own. I was given 10mg of progesterone to bring on a period. Then I was given 7.5mg of letrozole to take on cycle days 3-7 to help mature a follicle. At 12 days into the cycle we had follicle checks to ensure we had maturing follicles. And mature being at least 18mm or larger. Once we had a mature follicle we did 5,000 units of pregnyl HCG trigger shot to ensure the follicle would erupt from the ovary. Then we did iui the day after our trigger. We waited until 14 days past the iui to take a pregnancy test and it was positive.

I believe after insurance, our out of pocket costs were no more than $800.
Dr. Rothenberg patiently listens and then gives you science. She helps keep you rational...With Dr. Rothenberg and her team I always felt taken care of. I have recurrent pregnancy loss so their professionalism and empathy was really critical for my emotional well-being during treatment. They were exceptionally good with communication about my situation...Dr. Rothenberg entertained every question I could possibly think of and for every scenario
This is a top notch operation [Pacific NW Fertility]...Don’t underestimate how important communication and the simple act of answering the phone is. Other clinics might call you back after almost always having to leave messages, days later. PNWF will actually pick up the phone...Complete transparency and communication from everyone
How was your experience with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
She isn’t a bulls$&77er about what’s happening or treatment which I really appreciate. Infertility can lead you down some dark places and through many rabbit holes of things people swear worked for them and their miracle babies. Dr. Rothenberg patiently listens and then gives you science. She helps keep you rational.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
Research, ask questions, be your own advocate, but listen to your doctor. She gives great information and feedback but you have to ask the questions. Dr. Rothenberg entertained every question I could possibly think of and for every scenario.

Initially everything was on the table for us because our labs came back fine. We elected to do IUI with Letrozole and the HcG trigger shot. We could have started with IVF but decided why use dynamite when a sparkler might work?
We were successful, but miscarried.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Pacific NW Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Team Rothenberg )
My comments for Dr. Rothenberg apply to the nursing staff as well. Complete transparency and communication from everyone.

This is a top notch operation. I’ve since moved to Indiana and every clinic here is a disappointment in comparison. Don’t underestimate how important communication and the simple act of answering the phone is. Other clinics might call you back after almost always having to leave messages, days later. PNWF will actually pick up the phone.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility.
IUIs are, in total, about $900, and meds are $140.
Dr. Stephanie Rothenberg made us feel comfortable and supported. She is very knowledgable and has a great balance in a warm but also direct approach. Her strength was explaining our options and not pressuring us. We felt discouraged when it came to cost, risks and % of treatment working but this is not her fault. A follow up might have been nice to see how they can support us in decision making.
The only weakness I can think of about this [Pacific NW Fertility] clinic is the costs seem to be slightly above average (after doing some research) but everything else was near perfect. The environment and team is exactly what you would want in an infertility setting...The team that supported me during the HSG team was amazing..

To trust her, she is good. But also maybe to check with other clinics that may be more affordable.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
She was warm and considerate and appeared to care about the future of our family. The staff was similar. However, due to financial restraints, we still have not followed through on treatment and we have never heard back from them, not a check-in or anything, which then kind of made me feel like a number.
Describe the protocols Stephanie Rothenberg used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
We did an HSG to see if my fallopian tubes are functioning okay. She recommended 3 IUIs and then IVF.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Pacific NW Fertility.
The team that supported me during the HSG team was amazing, I was so grateful for their support that day. The curse that walked us through procedure details after our first consultation was too upbeat for my liking considering the circumstances of our situation.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility.
I appreciated how Dr Rothenberg dealt with every part of the process...I have PCOS and between myself and husband some other complications as well as medication I'm unable to stop taking, [she] considered it all and developed a strategy to best suit our situation. The most recent stage was fertilization which included lupin injections, estradiol patches (replaced every two days, progressively more over a couple weeks before implantation appointment, then returned to 2 patches every 2 days
Strengths [of Pacific NW] : great location (for me, ~9 minute walk). Majority women-lead, run and in treatment. Pleasant enough set-up and atmosphere, even considering current COVID issues. Offers good safety precautions and guidelines regarding COVID as well. Open on the weekends, and from 7am throughout the week. Weaknesses: really not much of anything - some inconveniences maybe like some procedures or sessions only being doable during the week, or certain times of day, etc. Perhaps a way to directly call/get to your nursing team (even to leave them a message) rather than having to go through the main reception every time
How was your experience with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
Overall I appreciated how Dr Rothenberg dealt with every part of the process.
Some of her strengths: knowledge and ability to relate information as in-depth or simplified as wanted (from the original meet and explanation, to follow-ups and subsequent visits); engaging and considerate (able to keep things light-hearted when needed despite such a tough endeavor); thorough and flexible. No weaknesses really spring to mind, honestly.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
Definitely see her. Also, just be open and honest with her. She's there to help however she can, and she'll be as transparent and realistic with you as possible.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Stephanie Rothenberg at Pacific NW Fertility?
Dr Rothenberg and her team were always kind, thoughtful and personable. I wasn't just another number but a person seeking their expertise which they were happy to share. They made what could have been an extremely stressful, antiseptic experiece not only manageable but somehow even pleasant. Everything explained, with any concerns or questions were further elaborated on to above satisfaction. They were also just considerate and friendly which helped immensely.

Sorry but I couldn't go over it all to be honest. I have PCOS and between myself and husband some other complications as well as medication I'm unable to stop taking, and Dr Rothenberg. considered it all and developed a strategy to best suit our situation.
The most recent stage was fertilization which included lupin injections, estradiol patches (replaced every two days, progressively more over a couple weeks before implantation appointment, then returned to 2 patches every 2 days), and Progesterone injections (first a type in sesame oil, and then changed to a version in ethyl oleate when I had a bad reaction to the first).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Pacific NW Fertility.
The nursing staff were an integral part of the process. They were as kind and knowledgeable as Dr Rothenberg throughout the process - those that I interacted with only once or twice, and those who were regularly in contact with me in person or via email or calls in between sessions. When they were unable to fully address any inquiries or issues, they made sure to get me an answer as soon as possible.

Additional: social distancing, safe practices and care are taken throughout. Unfortunately (if understandably) partners are not able to come in in most cases at present because of health/safety concerns re: COVID.
