Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Susan Hudson personally called me several times throughout my cycle...explained the plan for future cycles and why she felt those changes needed to be made...We started with a 7 day estrogen/cetrotide prime on day 18 of my cycle (i ovulate early)...We used icsi due to male factor and planned on FET with pgs testing due to recurrent pregnancy loss...She only transfers one embryo if you are doing pgs testing to prevent higher risk pregnancy.
My main concern with our assigned treatment nurse of [Texas Fertility Center] was lack of communication...the best form of communication was to message her on the portal...We did a package through a financing option for her services about 12,000 for all monitoring appointments/imaging/labs, the retrieval, icsi, frozen embryo storage, transfer costs ,etc... I was never told my afc/lab results or follicle count during my retrieval just things looked good or not..So definitely ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS.
How was your experience with Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Dr Hudson was always compassionate but honest in her thoughts on what went wrong with our first failed retrieval. She called me personally several times, and promptly answered messages on the patient portal. She was quick to change medications when things werent going as planned in the middle of my cycle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Ask a lot of questions! She will answer all questions but doesnt necessarily bring them up. For example I was never told my estrogen levels/afc/follicle count or sizes until my last ultrasound.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Dr Hudson personally called me several times throughout my cycle and after when we didnt get the results we were expecting. She explained the plan for future cycles and why she felt those changes needed to be made.
Describe the protocols Susan Hudson used in your cycles at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic) and their degree of success.
We started with a 7 day estrogen/cetrotide prime on day 18 of my cycle (i ovulate early). Then we did gonal/menopur on cd2, added cetrotide on day 6 to prevent early ovulation and did lupron trigger to prevent ohss. We used icsi due to male factor and planned on FET with pgs testing due to recurrent pregnancy loss. We had 10 eggs, 8 mature, 5 fertilize, no blasts. For our next retrieval we plan on same prime, higher doses of gonal/menopur, adding hgh and doing an hcg trigger.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic). (Assigned nurse: Maggie)
My main concern with our assigned treatment nurse was lack of communication. Our first cycle we were suppose to prime and she was out for a family emergency and I guess they didnt have a fill in for her and we were delayed a whole cycle because no one was there to answer our messages on when/how to get meds. I had to call and leave several messages before I would get a call back, the best form of communication was to message her on the portal. The rest of the staff, her billing expert, her receptionist were all very quick to respond and call back.
Describe your experience with Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
Communication is definitely a weakness. I was never told my afc/lab results or follicle count during my retrieval just things looked good or not. So definitely ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS. They are all very compassionate and Dr Hudson was great at getting back to me with any questions.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
We did a package through a financing option for her services about 12,000 for all monitoring appointments/imaging/labs, the retrieval, icsi, frozen embryo storage, transfer costs ,etc that was 12,000. We paid about 500 for anesthesia, 2500 for surgery center (this included retrieval and transfer costs). 1200 I think for pgs testing up to 8 embryos. And $7000 for meds.
Describe Susan Hudson's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
She only transfers one embryo if you are doing pgs testing to prevent higher risk pregnancy.
What specific things went wrong at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic)?
  • Canceled a cycle due to clinic error
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
As stated before, our first cycle we were suppose to prime, the nurse was out. So I did my day 17 progesterone check so I could start my estrogen and no one answered my questions about meds. I called on CD1 and we were suppose to do IVF med education and no one called me for weeks. It delayed us a whole cycle.

Dr Hudson delivered the medical part of the care very well. We ended up with 5 healthy embryos after only 1 cycle of IVF at age 34...asked our preferences and answered our questions...It did seem like Dr Hudson had a lot of patients...IVF I first went on birth control to help to coordinate the two ovaries together....after a few weeks I started on stimulant subcutaneous injections...
The front desk staff [at Texas Fertility Center] is very friendly, approachable, and warm. All the staff respond promptly to inquiries - no evening/night hours however, so make sure you are well prepared ahead of time. The clinic seemed to produce good results in my case where we had 14 eggs which turned into 5 embryos from a single cycle at age 34. However, be prepared for a stressful experience and some logistical hassles with insurance and ordering your medications.
How was your experience with Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic)?
I felt Dr Hudson delivered the medical part of the care very well. We ended up with 5 healthy embryos after only 1 cycle of IVF at age 34, which exceeded my expectations. The whole process was still stressful especially financially and emotionally, as well as logistically getting the insurance and prescriptions situation figured out. For example, we ended up having to go to the hospital last minute to get needles because the medications did not come with any.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Bring a list of questions with you beforehand. Try not to be anxious as this is supposed to interfere with the process. Pray a lot for peace.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Dr Hudson asked our preferences and answered our questions. However, I was very anxious about the whole process so it was still difficult to get all my questions answered. It did seem like Dr Hudson had a lot of patients. I felt like I did not know the right questions to ask.
Describe the protocols Susan Hudson used in your cycles at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic) and their degree of success.
I don't know the names of the treatment strategies, but for IVF I first went on birth control to help to coordinate the two ovaries together. Then after a few weeks I started on stimulant subcutaneous injections. There were frequent labs and US scans to check the progress, and dosages and medication schedules were adjusted accordingly until follicles reached the desired size according to Dr Hudson.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic). (Assigned nurse: Maggie, Rylee)
The nurses respond promptly to inquiries - but the whole experience is still very stressful emotionally, financially, and even logistically. The emotions and finances were expected, but I did not expect the logistical hassles with insurance, deliveries, and needles.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
Expensive as it was mostly out of pocket. About $14,000 for the whole stimulation, labs, embryo creation (we used ICSI), embryo freezing + biopsy process. My insurance did cover most of the medications.
Describe Susan Hudson's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
We never reached the embryo transfer stage - my partner took all the embryos for himself and refused to let me use them.

My experiences as a patient have always been positive, even when my treatment didn’t go as planned. Dr. Hudson always reviewed our previous cycle information and set a course of action moving forward that we were all comfortable with. She answered every question we had openly and honestly and gave her opinions when we asked for them. We think very highly of her and trust her solely with helping us build our family. Because of her we have our son and are hoping to add another child soon.
The clinic [Texas Fertility Center] strengths are that every single visit I get to see the the Dr. she performs every in office ultrasound, procedure, etc. herself. I also think they are very accommodating and make sure that if you need to be seen, they get you in ASAP and most of the time the same day, if needed. The biggest weakness is that they moved all blood labs off site, so now sometimes you have to wait a long time to get lab work and travel to multiple places if you have an appointment and need labs same day.

Dr. Hudson is very compassionate and understanding. I have been a patient of hers for many years and can not say enough positive things about her as both a doctor and a person. She definitely goes the extra mile for her patients.
Describe the protocols Susan Hudson used in your cycles at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic) and their degree of success.
I can’t remember exact protocols from all of my cycles, but when stimming, I used estrace, and estrogen patches, Bravelle (prior to recall) and Menopur, Ganirelix, and Gonal-F. We did a Lupron trigger prior to retrieval. When prepping for transfers I have done a protocol with just estrace and crinone and I have done a cycle with estrace, crinone, and PIO. My latest cycle we tried an immune protocol and added steroids (prednisone, prednisolone, doxy, baby aspirin, and dexamethasone). My lining was always trilaminar for transfer and the latest protocol was used because I have had repeat implantation failure with PGS normal embryos.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic). (Assigned nurse: Jessica )
Jessica is so sweet and always made me feel like she genuinely cared about us and truly wanted us to be successful. I love working with her and all of the staff at TFC New Braunfels.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Susan Hudson at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
I have done multiple cycles with this clinic and when I used my own eggs it was around $35,000 including the cost of medications. The most recent donor egg cycle we did cost us $29,000 for a two euploid embryo guarantee. Each transfer has medication, ultrasound/Dr. Visit fees, and transfer fees associated which were a couple thousand dollars total each time. We also pay 600.00 to the surgery center for each transfer.
Describe Susan Hudson's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
Yes! My doctor prefers to transfer one baby at a time. Her philosophy is one healthy baby and one healthy mama.

Dr Hudson always sat down with my husband and I when something went wrong in our treatment. She let us know when something was wrong or wouldn’t work. She considered that we were paying out of pocket for everything and took that into consideration.... We felt like she was using the latest research to try and get us pregnant, while still personalizing our treatment plan. She was always welcoming and smiling when we walked into appointments.

Describe the protocols Susan Hudson used in your cycles at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic) and their degree of success.
Preparing for egg retrieval- birth control for 1 month, then start stim meds, add in cetrotide to prevent ovulation pretty early in stim cycle. Embryo transfer 1- estrace 3 weeks prior to transfer, crinone 7 days prior to transfer and both after transfer Embryo transfer 2- estrace 3 weeks prior to transfer, adding crinone 12 hours earlier than first cycle due to ERA results. Add 1 shot of progesterone every 3 days. Embryo Transfer 3- same protocol as embryo transfer 2, plus steriods before and after transfer for 6 weeks. The day before transfer I took a mixture of steroids and antibiotics. I also continued to take baby aspirin from start to finish. New protocol for last embryo to help prevent miscarriage.

Dr Hudson has a very warm bedside manner. She went over the information and treatment as though we had never heard it before. She has called me directly to provide answers to questions/lab results and doesn’t push her nurse’s to relay info..... I went for an HSG where it was found I have a blocked left Fallopian tube... This I was told would need to be removed before transfer of an embryo. I was also diagnosed with APLS by both my Primary Care Physician and a second diagnosis from Dr Husdon to help explain my recurrent miscarriages.
The clinic [Texas Fertility Center] is very organized. I have recently switched hospitals for employment resulting is confusion about insurance. It has been a headache for me, as well as for the clinic. They continued to keep me posted and let me know if they had any issues or questions of me.... When I arrive, my wait in the waiting area is very limited. When I’m the exam room, Dr Hudson has a soft manner and gives time for explanation and allows questions to be asked. She has called me several times (herself) to discuss my treatment/ provide lab results.

I am still at beginning stages of IVF treatment with Dr Hudson. I went for an HSG where it was found I have a blocked left Fallopian tube (r/t the ectopic removal I unwent last November). This I was told would need to be removed before transfer of an embryo. I was also diagnosed with APLS by both my Primary Care Physician and a second diagnosis from Dr Husdon to help explain my recurrent miscarriages. Next step is to start my meds. Crinone 8 and Gonal-f RFF
Describe your experience with your nurse at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic). (Assigned nurse: Jessica)
I’m the very beginning of my time with Dr Husdon’s office, I felt like I was not receiving information on what was to happen next. I had to contact the office a few times just to question the plan. I felt like I was being forgotten and wanted to make sure things kept moving forward. I also sent a message to Dr Hudson to express my concerns, and from that point forward, my nurse was on top of everything.

A complete list of all processes and their expenses was provided. Very detailed. We were told that we could pay each as it came rather than paying one big lump sum. If pricing for services was not provided (for other facilities) I was told that that facility would be in contact with me.
Describe Susan Hudson's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Texas Fertility Center (US Fertility Network clinic).
I unfortunately do not recall if Dr Husdon states how many embryos she will transfer. However, I would not be afraid of having twins. With my age, and limited funds, I may only have this one chance to under IVF. This discussion with my Doctor will take place.

The office is small, you know all of the staff and you only see Dr. Hudson. She even does every monitoring appointment. They always showed compassion and kindness...We got three eggs, all three were mature and all three fertilized with ICSI. The three made it to Day 3 and then two made it to Day 5. The two blastocysts were biopsied for PGS and sent to freeze. We ended up with one normal embryo. From the onset she told us these were our chances and it was spot on...Dr. Hudson has a warm and gentle approach while also being completely honest with her explanation of the benefits and risks of any part of the process. She did not over promise on what my prognosis was or the chance of success.
I had the same nurse from start to finish [at Fertility Institute of Texas], she always called when she said she would and promptly answered my questions in the portal...We paid a package fee for the doctor's services which included monitoring scans, bloodwork, retrieval and transfer procedures. It was $5350. We paid a separate fee to the IVF lab for their embryology fees such as handling the eggs, sperm, ICSI, embryo monitoring, biopsy and cryopreservation. This was $8150. We paid a separate fee of $1250 to the surgical facility for retrieval then another $1000 for transfer. PGS fees were separate, paid directly to the lab performing test. The cost for medications were separate and was roughly $7000.

Describe the protocols Susan Hudson used in your cycles at Fertility Institute of Texas (closed) and their degree of success.
When we began our first cycle, she planned an antagonist protocol where I would use estrogen patches and Cetrotide starting on Day 21 for 7 days and then go in for my baseline scan before changing to Menopur and Gonal-F. This was specifically planned to deal with Diminished Ovarian Reserve, my primary diagnosis. That first cycle, I did the patches and when I went in for my scan, we found I had two leading follicles and she decided to check me again the next day to see if they had grown or shrunk. The next day they were still there, and so she advised us to cancel the cycle. She explained that with the two leading follicles, any other follicles would not be able to catch up and my chances for the best outcome were lower, with not having the most follicles as possible. We canceled the cycle, of course we were crushed but because she explained why it wouldn't be good to continue, we felt it was the right thing to do. She also changed my treatment plan for the next cycle, where we would not start with the estrogen patches and Cetrotide. The next cycle I went in on CD1 for my baseline and everything looked okay and we started injections the next night. I did Menopur and Gonal-F for 7 days, then Cetrotide was added to prevent the follicles from ovulating. I stimulated for 12 days and used Lupron for the trigger. The entire time I stimulated I had three follicles. Two were larger than one however she said an egg could be in there and she would try all of them. We got three eggs, all three were mature and all three fertilized with ICSI. The three made it to Day 3 and then two made it to Day 5. The two blastocysts were biopsied for PGS and sent to freeze. We ended up with one normal embryo. From the onset she told us these were our chances and it was spot on.

Describe your experience with Fertility Institute of Texas (closed).
Dr. Hudson works with an IVF lab which is separate from her office. The IVF lab is located in a surgical facility. Dr. Hudson performed the retrieval and transfer but the nurses and embryologists were employees of the facility and the IVF lab. Every interaction I had with the nurses and embryologists were always wonderful. They were professional, warm and compassionate. Having the procedures performed outside of the doctor's own office was different compared to my first doctor where everything was done in-house however it was not a negative experience.

I cannot day enough good things about Dr. Hudson and her staff.... Dr. Hudson is extremely professional. She works very hard to ensure that her patients and their families feel comfortable and understand what's going on. I was so impressed with how she handled herself.... We used a mixed IUI cycle: I took femara and injected medications.... Her staff is just as incredible, professional and well trained: I never once had an unpleasant experience!
This clinic [Fertility Institute of Texas] is extremely organized. I never had a problem getting my questions answered. I did have to wait a few weeks for an appointment when I wasn't cycling, but during my cycling I never had a problem.... I felt comfortable with them and was able to talk openly about my concerns, ideas and needs.... All medical treatments are on par price wise with other clinics. Timed intercourse cycles were about $500 and IUIs ran about $1,200.
How was your experience with Susan Hudson at Fertility Institute of Texas (closed)?
Dr. Hudson is extremely professional. She works very hard to ensure that her patients and their families feel comfortable and understand what's going on. I was so impressed with how she handled herself. I came from a doctor that didn't do these things and it was really wonderful to move to a clinic where all the staff is caring and compassionate.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Susan Hudson at Fertility Institute of Texas (closed)?
Don't wait: if you need to see a doctor for help don't hesitate to see Dr. Hudson!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Susan Hudson at Fertility Institute of Texas (closed)?
I cannot day enough good things about Dr. Hudson and her staff. From the moment I transferred to her clinic I was treated with compassion and respect. Each member of her staff made themselves readily available (as much as necessary) to answer my questions, hear my concerns and worked with my husband and I through each step of the way. I felt comfortable with them and was able to talk openly about my concerns, ideas and needs. Her staff is just as incredible, professional and well trained: I never once had an unpleasant experience! They were all so kind and caring. Of the doctors I have worked with so far, she and her staff are definitely the best!

Dr hudson is a wonderful and compassionate doctor. She has a warm and empathetic bedside manner. ...Dr. Hudson was wonderful. I'm a highly anxious patient who needed a lot of information and reassurance. Dr hudson gave me her person email address and was quick to respond anytime I needed anything...I did a stim cycle using follistem, menopur and ganirelix with a lupron trigger for egg retrieval since I am a high responder. We did a freeze all with PGS. I used estradiol valerate since my lining was resistant and PIO since I had an allergic reaction to crinone.
We absolutely loved Dr. Hudson, her nurse Fredricka and the front desk staff [at Fert. Inst. of TX - SA]. Overall, Dr. Hudson's clinic is very well-organized and compassionate to our situation. Everyone was happy with us and sad with us through the whole process...We had some issues with Julie (a nurse) failing to order a prescription and then ordering it in the wrong strength....Dr. Hudson's nurse Fredricka is wonderful - very experienced in IVF coordination, compassionate and empathetic.

Dr. Hudson's nurse Fredricka is wonderful - very experienced in IVF coordination, compassionate and empathetic. We were assigned Julie for most of our cycle. Although kind, Julie was less knowledgable and made some mistakes when ordering our medications. We felt like we needed to double check everything she did.

Describe Susan Hudson's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Institute of Texas (closed).
Our doctor felt very strongly about an eSET following PGS. With research showing such high pregnancy rates in our age group with chromosomally normal embryos, Dr. Hudson wanted to minimize our risk of twins. Her goal was a healthy pregnancy and she didn't want to add any additional risks to me or the baby with a multiple gestation.

Dr. Hudson is very comforting. She explained everything very well before and after any treatment or procedure. She was compassionate when things didn't go as planned. She listened to our needs in regards to how we wanted to receive treatment, and she answered any questions and addressed any fears or concerns we had throughout the entire process.
Overall, the clinic [Fertility Inst of Texas] was welcoming. They were very kind and compassionate during any and all visits. They were respectful of our time and schedule and were as flexible as they could be. I was in and out for any appointment or consultation and was never left waiting for long periods of time in the waiting room when I had an appointment. They communicated very well.
