Tia Jackson-Bey

I would say that Dr. Jackson Bay is a nice person calm, but I would say she she is not an expert at Fertility. I went to her explaining exactly what my particular body was like. I just came from having a myomectomy and it seems like she put that in her head and pre-diagnosed me without even going through the proper procedure. I feel she just heard that I said I had a myomectomy and automatically assumed I had everything going. Everything else going on in my body when I saw one of the top fibroid removal specialist and she made sure that I did not have any scar tissue or any kind of issues that will happen with my uterus Dr. Jackson Bay diagnosed me without even trying a sonogram. I would say that Dr. Jackson Bay spoke in a nice manner, but did not explain much. It almost was a lot of talking that was read out of a book. It almost sounded rehearsed.

I would tell the next patient to get a second opinion

Yes I remember that I was told I have high FSH and with a high FSH you have to use low drugs however she did use the load dosage, but she spoke as if I did not know what I was talking about like she was uninterested when she wanted to proceed with the dosage of drugsI explained to her that I’ve had experience with low dosage, giving my body more eggs. Also when I did an egg retreat when I was getting ready for an egg retrieval. I explained to her that I’ve had experience with low dosage, giving my body more eggs. Also when I did an egg retreat when I was getting ready for an egg retrieval they should do a sonogram on a person before putting them under anesthesia. Dr. Jackson Bay did not do a sonogram prior to me going under anesthesia, causing me to go under anesthesia for no reason because my body ovulated the eggs prior to retrieval, which could’ve resulted in something totally bad.

Dr Jackson-Bey is an excellent physician who truly cares about her patients health outcomes. She shares her clinical recommendations in a direct yet compassionate manner. She’s very cognizant of what her patients goals are and that informs her clinical decision making. She truly empowers her patients in their fertility journey.

Ask all the questions you need, she truly wants to empower her patients to understand what’s happening in their health journey every step of the way.

I was on the antagonist protocol for egg freezing. Given my high AMH level Dr Jackson-Bey always monitored my levels and adjust my dosage during the hormone injections monitoring everything closely to ensure I wouldn’t be at risk for ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome.

The finance coordinator Dana Austin sent me a thorough review of cost associated for my cycle/procedure. Thankfully my employer has excellent fertility coverage. Since I already met my deductible I was responsible for co-pays (visit, lab work) and anesthesia.

She was present throughout the majority of my appointments and she always made me feel confident about the outcome of procedures. She was right on point and I trusted her decision making a lot. She was diligent and she made great decisions throughout that resulted in a successful pregnancy after the first egg retrieval and subsequent transfer.

Trust her, she truly knows what she’s doing.

At first we did a lot of testing for my partner and I to determine the reason for our unexplained infertility. She knew I was apprehensive to do IVF and she was never judgemental about that and encouraged me to try IUI’s once everything looked clear and healthy for my partner and I. We tried 4 IUI’s and they did not result in pregnancy so I told Dr. Jackson I would like to go for IVF. She was very attentive during the entire process and she said that she would consider 8 eggs a success and that she is optimistic that we could be successful in the first round. She was right. We got pregnant after our first transfer and I was stunned.

Our insurance covered a lot of it

We never actually discussed this, I just assumed we would do one transfer since we got a grade A embryo and that’s exactly what she did

There are no weaknesses I detected from Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey during my experience. She displayed her strengths and that is first her expertise/knowledge in this area or field. She exhibit that she have mastered the skill of time management not allowing me wait long periods of time despite me arriving late to appointment. She is the fastest doctor I have seen in the health care system who knows where to begin when entering the treatment room and end it by asking if I have any questions for her. Her tone and delivery of information as well as the level of care made my experience a memorable one.

"You are in good hands" as Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey said to me on Friday September 2, 2022 before my egg retrieval procedure.

I did not have the funds and was waiting for the paperwork to be completed with the company RMA contracts to be approved for a loan. The strategy that Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey recommended was take birth control to hold off my cycle and give time for the paperwork to be completed for 10 days and then start my cycle. Or I could wait until the end of August to begin a new cycle. She gave me options to choose. Secondly, after choosing to take birth control and assessing that it did not work at time of appointment. She recommend that I return back to the clinic another week for assessment. By then I was recommend to take one of the injections medication before returning. The rationale for this was so that my paperwork can be completed within the time frame taking the birth control. Second, when the birth control did not work the injection medication was the next option. That did not work as only one follicle developed so waiting for my next cycle to come was the last option which was a success and started treatment.

It was a well-oil machine. I was given appointments for monitoring and the appointments time were convenient for me as I was scheduled to be at my work place a certain time.

I don't understand questions.

I do not have any comments for this question. I am pleased with what I intended to do and Dr. Tia Jackson-Bey assisted me achieving goal.

When I first met Dr. Jackson-Bey I was open and honest about my bad experience from the previous fertility clinic. Going through fertility issues is alot emotionally and mentally. I expressed to Dr. Jackson-Bey my desires to have a child of my own. She went over my previous cycle as well as expressed why the cycle option she selected for me would be beneficial. From my first visit, I immediately experienced positive variations from my first clinic. She gave me 3D sonogram because I had some fibrous. She also was able to explain in detail what additional test as well as prenatal vitamins to help support me with my cycle.

Be positive. I struggled a-lot with not being empathetic. I felt as though I was Dr. Jackson Bey only patient when I knew I wasn't. I would say to also be patient with how fast she responds back to your email. Other than that, in my experience I had a wonderful with Dr. Jackson-Bey and her amazing staff at RMANY

My first cycle that wasn't conducted at RMANY, I did a natural cycle. My first cycle didn't result in a pregnancy. After going over my results, it was discovered I had endometriosis and needed further treatment before going through another cycle. I also have PCOS and low thyroid issues. Dr. Jackson Bey suggested for this cycle I try a medicated cycle. I first started with injections to help me produce quality eggs. On the day of my egg retrieval, I could bailey walk and I didn't know why until my retrieval was over. Dr Jackson Bey was able to retrieve 40 eggs. From the 40, 30 eggs fertilized and 26 turned into embryos. At my previous clinic, my doctor was only able to retrieve 12 eggs and 7 fertilized and 4 turned into embryos . Me and my partner decided to do PGT testing to eliminate not having a successful cycle. We only tested 4 embryos and out of the 4, 1 came back abnormal. PGT wasn't covered by my insurance so it cost us about $2,400 and to have each embryo tested was $150 per embryo. Once we got the results back, we completed our Transfer in May and in 2 weeks we got the positive news that our prays have been answered and Dr. Jackson Bey confirmed that we were pregnant. I still cant believe it. Dr Jackson Bey was able to look at my medical history and determine the best cycle option for me and my partner.

Most appointments were in the am.

My medical insurance covered my cycle. My out of pocket cost were co-pays, cost of medication (varies by cycle), PGT testing ($2400) and embryo testing ($150 per embryo)

Dr. Jackson Bey suggested one embryo transfer due to my age as well as the risk factors that come with multiple pregnancy. Me and my partner did desire to have twins but we understood and respected her expertise.

Dr. Jackson-Bey was very compassionate and responsive. I had tons of random questions in between appointments and she was always quick to respond to emails. She took the time to call me when I got disappointing results (i.e. negative pregnancy test from an IUI). She really cares about her patients and about her work. She is active in advocacy around infertility issues and getting more people access to infertility care.

Be as specific as possible in asking questions. Make sure to be clear on your communication style - i.e. if you're someone who likes blunt direct communication, be upfront about that.

Dr. Jackson-Bey initially recommended IVF from the outset because of my history of anovulation and DOR. I was very resistant to IVF and so we agreed to try medicated IUIs first. She was understanding of my feelings and accomodated my wish for this other path even though she did make it clear that she thought IVF was the best path forward. I ended up doing 6 IUIs because I responded well to them and there was no obvious reason that an IUI wouldn't have worked for me. Eventually I felt very ready to try IVF and so we made the switch. My first protocol was one designed for women with DOR or poor responders. I didn't get many eggs but the results of blasts was very strong. We decided to do another cycle to bank embryos because of our desire to have two kids. The second cycle we used a different protocol that I did not respond as well to and we also had a male-factor issue so we ended up freezing eggs only. After that we took a break as we were pretty shaken up from that experience and decided to switch doctors within the practice purely for a psychological "reset." We are soon preparing to transfer the euploid embryos that we got from that first IVF cycle.

The major procedures were covered 100% by insurance (unlimited IUIs and up to 3 IVF cycles) but we decided to pay for ICSI ($2,000) and PGT testing ($2,500).

I have nothing but good things to say. In fact my husband and I wish she could be our GP. She is really good at explaining what's happening, makes time for questions and is responsive. I never felt rushed, pressured, or like I wasn't receiving the best advice. I always felt like I was her only patient even though I know that's not the case. Truly a gifted physician and gem of a person.

Bring a notebook and be prepared to take lots of notes. There's no such thing as a bad question.

Egg retrieval 1: antagonist protocol. I was a slow responder and stimmed for 14 days. I have slightly low amh and only had 5 eggs retrieved. one made it to blast and came back low mosaic. We changed my protocol for the second retrieval and did the microflare protocol with estrogen priming. I ended up with 6 eggs and 4 blasts. Three came back PGT normal. in between retrievals I had to have a laproscopic hysteroscopy to remove uterine adhesions and fix additional scarring/issues at the fundus. I had my FET two months after my second retrieval and three months after surgery. It was successful.

All in around $30k but we used WIN Fertility to pay. Most of our IVF was paid for out of pocket.

Will only transfer one embryo at a time. She outlined her reasons and we were on board.

To me, Dr. Jackson-Bey felt transparent and patient. She spoke to me with respect and did not automatically assume I understood the medical terminology and treatments she was describing. I walked away feeling a sense of trust in her guidance.

Approximately $2,000 for initial consultation and diagnostics.

Overall, I think Dr Jackson Bey was kind and professional, but unfortunately she completely misdiagnosed me. I was told I would have to do IVF because of FHA. When I insisted we try a less invasive approach first, she was hesitant and said it wouldn’t work. This was all based on one measurement of day 3 FSH and LH, which she deemed low. She ruled out everything else. When we did an ultrasound, she said there was no presence of cysts. When I came for a follow up and my second set of lab results came through, she asked if I had a history of PCOS. I told her no, but that was the reason I was here - for her to diagnose me… I went through a cycle of clomid before deciding to go to another doctor. Thank god I got a second opinion. I have PCOS based on polycystic ovaries and anovulation, something I am still not sure how a reputable doctor could miss. I urge everyone to get a second opinion. I got pregnant with my first round of letrozole with another doctor.

Strengths: ability to explain complex medical issues simply, genuine attention and presence, holistic attention to health and wellness, encouraging to try less invasive methods, awareness of equity issues in medical field I don't have much more to say because I only saw her once.

Absolutely, at no point did I feel like Dr. Jackson Bey was treating me out of formality or just to get it over with. She displayed a genuine acknowledgement of my humanity AND my queerness.

She is competent, has good communication skills and compassionate. She always asking if you have questions and takes time to fully explains the tests, the plan or the next steps. She always sounds welcome and warm.

Trust her

Dr. Jackson-Bey really felt like an ally in our family planning journey. She had great suggestions, and communicating with her team was very efficient which was important given how time sensitive everything is in this process.

$10,000 for Egg Freezing. IUI was covered. Genetic screening was about $750.

Dr. Jackson-Bey was a wonderful doctor. She was warm and professional, and took the time to answer all of our questions, and made us feel heard and supported. One potential downside with RMA in general in my experience, is that they are very by the book, and are not very open to trying or suggesting anything out the box if your have unexplained infertility. When my first transfer failed, no suggestions were made to change the protocol for the next transfer or retrieval. I did my own research, and spoke to Dr. Jackson-Bey about concerns I had about endometriosis. Dr. Jackson-Bey told me that she did not think that endo was my issue, but to her credit, she listened to me, and agreed to try an endo protocol for my next transfer. The next transfer was successful, which may or may not be because of the new protocol, but regardless, we felt heard and appreciated that Dr. Jackson-Bey allowed us to advocate for ourselves.

Advocate for yourself if you have any concerns or suggestions- she will listen if it is within reason

It was generally quick. You had to schedule a time, but if you showed up early/late it usually wasnt an issue

I was not offered a multiple embryo transfer- I don't think RMA does them

I would recommend Dr. Jackson-By and the entire Brooklyn RMA clinic team to anyone. Every appointment ran smoothly and on time, communication with the care team was easy. Dr. Jackson-Bet is down to earth, straight forward, realistic, and easy going. She never rushed our decisions, just presented us with options. I never felt like a number. I am now 9 weeks pregnant and happily transferring to an OB, eternally grateful to this doctor and clinic.
