It’s clear upon meeting him that Dr Singer is an experienced, compassionate doctor with a lot of empathy for his patients. He’s incredibly positive but also pragmatic and direct about anticipated outcomes. He thoroughly explains his decision-making process, and made us feel comfortable and confident the whole time. We were shocked at how well each step of the process went from stims to retrieval and transfer. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dr. Singer to others.
I really liked that everything takes place in the same [Shady Grove Fertility New York] office (egg retrievals, transfers, ultrasounds, etc) and the office is very nice. The staff are also very friendly across the board. Undoubtedly my best healthcare experience in NYC. A con for some may be that your RE may not perform your ultrasounds until towards the end of your stims (for me it was the last 4 days), but I really loved the nurse who did mine so I didn’t mind at all. It is a big practice, so those looking for a lot of 1:1 time with the RE may not like it.

We were shocked at how well each step of the process went from stims to retrieval and transfer. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dr. Singer to others. A nurse at the Ob-gyn practice I go to who referred me to him quipped “you’ll love him - Dr. Singer gets everyone pregnant!” And that’s fortunately been the case for us.
One thing to note is that he does speak extremely quickly, so don’t be afraid to ask him to repeat or clarify. He was always willing to spend as much time as we needed for questions and to gather our concerns. You can tell his heart is really in his work, and that mattered a lot to us.

Write down questions and don’t be afraid to take as much time as you need to feel informed about your treatment plan.

Shady Grove is a very large practice that moves fast. But every person we interacted with including Dr. Singer was kind, friendly, and thoughtful. Anytime we were nervous about something or had questions, they always took the time to answer them. Dr Singer scheduled a check-in without us asking to make sure we had time to ask him all of our questions before proceeding with treatment. He even called the morning of our transfer (he wasn’t doing transfers that day) to ensure us that the doctor was fantastic and see how we were feeling. I highly recommend Dr. Singer and Shady Grove. Our process couldn’t have gone more smoothly
Describe the protocols Tomer Singer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility New York (closed) and their degree of success.
I have PCOS so they started me on a “low and slow” protocol of 75 Menopur and 150 Follistim. I started taking Ganirelix on day 5 of stims once a day, then upped it to twice a day for the last few days and increased Menopur to 150. I had a dual trigger (Lupron and Pregnyl). 25 eggs were retrieved, 21 were mature. I felt back to normal 3 days after my egg retrieval and had a fresh transfer on day 5, which was successful.

Can’t say enough positive things about the nursing staff, care coordinators, and phlebotomists. They were always kind, friendly, and informative. I would always get a phone in the afternoon after my appointments with updates, and they were quick to answer any questions I had in the portal

Dr. Singer is a warm, positive, knowledgable, and patient doctor who cares about you as a person. He knows the statistics behind each stage, knows the answers to your questions, and makes every interaction positive and caring. I had a wonderful experience being his patient...He called me personally, squeezed me in when it was difficult to get an appointment, and was always warm, positive, and personable every time I saw him. He answered my phone calls and helped relieve my anxiety. I know he cares about his patients and their feelings as well as the results.
Everything about my experience was excellent. The [Shady Grove Fertility New York] office is convenient, nice, and easy to schedule with. The phlebotomists were so good at their jobs. I am usually difficult but they got it every time. Every doctor was up to speed on my case and never had issues or frustration with my experience...Mimi is an amazing nurse and person. She will call you every day after a visit and give you all the details. She is so sweet, knowledgeable, patient, and on top of every detail.

Mimi is an amazing nurse and person. She will call you every day after a visit and give you all the details. She is so sweet, knowledgeable, patient, and on top of every detail. She sent in all my meds on time, fixed any insurance issues immediately, and most importantly, answered my late night anxious phone calls when I was terrified about spotting. I could not have asked for a better nursing coordinator. Every nurse at the office who also saw me was so gentle, kind, and patient. I always felt cared for no matter who saw me.

It was covered by insurance but I did have to pay 4,000 for genetic testing.
Describe Tomer Singer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility New York (closed).
Since we did genetic testing, he said we should single embryo transfer.
Dr. Singer immediately stood out because of his warmth, his clarity around the treatment plan and explaining the science to us in ways we could understand, his willingness to work with us (one doctor started pushing donor eggs in the very first conversation) and patience with our many questions...At the end of our three retrievals we had multiple PGT-A normal embryos that we were able to freeze. We then had success on our first transfer...
The entire staff [at Shady Grove Fertility New York] was amazing! You could tell that everyone genuinely cares about you and is on your team. I always felt so supported in the office...The teamwork across the locations was fantastic (and both locations have great doctors, nurses, MAs etc!)... I was thrilled that when the Brooklyn office opened (much more convenient for me than Manhattan), I could go there for monitoring appointments when I wanted to. That flexibility was really helpful when balancing this with my job...

I had multiple consultations prior to starting infertility treatment. Dr. Singer immediately stood out because of his warmth, his clarity around the treatment plan and explaining the science to us in ways we could understand, his willingness to work with us (one doctor started pushing donor eggs in the very first conversation) and patience with our many questions. When the process started I knew I was in the right hands. We had better than expected results in our first cycle. Our second cycle was not successful (no PGT-A normal embryos), and Dr. Singer could not have been more compassionate when he called with that news. Our third cycle we were lucky enough to again have above average (particularly for my DOR diagnosis) results. At the end of our three retrievals we had multiple PGT-A normal embryos that we were able to freeze. We then had success on our first transfer. We could not be more grateful to Dr. Singer for his expertise and guidance every step of the way.

Talk to him! If you have questions, ask. If you have concerns, raise them. I'm a worrier and tend to over-analyze and research things, and he was great at explaining why he was doing what he was doing, and it put my anxious mind at ease.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Tomer Singer at Shady Grove Fertility New York (closed)?
Dr. Singer is such a warm presence. He got to know me and my husband, and called us himself when there was bad news during cycles. When there was good news, he was genuinely thrilled for us. At the time of our transfer, it was during the Omicron peak and my husband was not allowed to attend per clinic policy. Dr Singer made sure to play his favorite music so that he still felt included when he saw the video. Little things like that made us feel like we were being not just treated, but cared for.
Describe the protocols Tomer Singer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility New York (closed) and their degree of success.
I was on Menopur, Gonal-F, and cetrotide for all three retrievals. My dosages were adjusted throughout the retrieval cycles based on how I was responding at each office visit. Our basic approach did not vary because Dr. Singer (and me!) were thrilled with our first round - 7 eggs, 3PGTA normal embryos. While round two was not successful (4 eggs, 0 PGTA embryos), our third round had similar results to the first round. We were thrilled to be in a position where our dream of having multiple children had gone from feeling impossible, to probable! Our first transfer was successful - it was a frozen transfer, using PIO and estradiol for prep (also antibiotics and steroids for prep), and throughout the first 10 weeks, baby aspirin throughout pregnancy.

I was thrilled that when the Brooklyn office opened (much more convenient for me than Manhattan), I could go there for monitoring appointments when I wanted to. The teamwork across the locations was fantastic (and both locations have great doctors, nurses, MAs etc!)

My insurance thankfully covered 3 attempts per live birth. My medicine was out of pocket and roughly 5K per retrieval, and a couple hundred dollars for transfer meds.
Describe Tomer Singer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility New York (closed).
Because I had never been pregnant before and our embryos were tested, Dr. Singer felt strongly that the best course of action for me was SET given the risk of multiples. We agreed completely.
Dr. Singer gave me one-on-one attention that I have never received from another doctor in my life. As someone who suffers from severe endometriosis, I knew I had to freeze my eggs...For as many patients that Dr. Singer had, I felt like I was the only one. He was available as needed and was always there to help guide me throughout the entire journey. He was very involved in the process and wanted to make sure I felt like I was in good hands....
A big strength is the empathy that is constantly shown at SGF [Shady Grove Fertility]. Everyone walks around with a smile and truly has the patient's best interest at heart. All of the doctors and staff there are educated and know exactly what they are doing...My nurse was Grace and she was awesome...She gave me her personal line and was always one phone call away from answering any question that I needed.

Dr. Singer gave me one-on-one attention that I have never received from another doctor in my life. As someone who suffers from severe endometriosis, I knew I had to freeze my eggs. I hate the thought of needles, feeling bloated, having a procedure etc. so it took me awhile to finally have the courage to educate myself. Dr. Singer, my nurse and the SGF team really made me feel empowered to go on the journey. Not to mention, they were very empathetic, which was critical for me. I finally felt like "I can do this" and that is all due to the SGF staff and Dr. Singer. Highly recommend for anyone considering.

My journey started with an in person visit for bloodwork to understand my AMH levels and a sonogram. Based on those results, Dr. Singer was able to formulate the right plan for me, including medication. I started off with two injections and a pill and then introduced a third during day 4/5. I then triggered on day 7/8. I went into the office frequently and Dr. Singer adjusted my medication intake as needed.

Monitoring was super easy - I always expect to wait around at doctors office and I typically get super impatient. I was a little worried about this going into the process knowing how frequently I would need to go into the office for monitoring. SGF never made me wait. I was always in and out and it was very easy. Again, made the process that much more enjoyable (without it actually being enjoyable, haha)

Dr. Singer and his entire team are responsive and caring...delicate and relaxed while still providing the best medical care...During the IUI, I was incredibly nervous. I have PCOS, so Dr. Singer put me on letrozole at the beginning of the cycle. He monitored the follicle growth and decided to wait until he saw more growth so he delayed the ovidrel/IUI piece and provided estradiol in the meantime. Then, a few days later, my husband administered the ovidrel shot and 36 hours later was the IUI. Post IUI, involved progesterone suppositories and estradiol. He closely monitors post IUI if there is a pregnancy.

We have yet to start a treatment cycle with Dr. Singer, unfortunately as we need donor eggs and all donor cycles are on hold due to COVID-19 we are in a holding pattern. We are reviewing their frozen egg bank to see if there is a suitable donor there. He has us re-do all the testing from previous clinics with much additional to determine what protocols we should use including and ERA to determine exactly how much progesterone is needed for a transfer. None of the other doctors even suggested this test, we were planning to ask our last clinic. When discussing previous treatment protocols he is very clear about what is will and won't do based on science and his overall experience, other clinics have been very open to our suggestions which made us feel like we had to do the research and be the doctor.

We have been accepted into the Shared Risk Program with Shady Grove, but as we have not yet selected a donor we have not had to pay yet. If we do a 1:1 donor with the PGT-A testing the cost will be $77k excluding medications and that will cover up to 6 donors (and all the eggs that come from them) and all transfers until we take home a live child. If we don't or choose to give up then we get the $77k back. If we do the 2:1 then it would be $53k with the same as above except we would be splitting the eggs with another couple.

There was a staff change and that resulted in getting results very late or next day and the overload caused misscomunication and emailing to get things done.
I feel doctor singer is very kind and professional. I think he knows what he is talking about and very educated in all things IvF. He is direct and to the point and views the process as common. Although I like Dr. Singer I feel his bedside manner is lacking. I think he could be more compassionate and make a point to see a patient more than just at scheduled procedures. I met him at my first consultations and then not again until he was needed for my procedure.
The strengths of this clinic [North Shore Long Island Jewish] are the many locations. They have offices, 1 in manhattan, 1 in garden city, and 1 in manhasset. The nurses, andrologist, and sono technicians were all very kind caring and helpful. The nyc clinic is understaffed which makes for very long wait times. Each appointment I’ve waited atleast an hour to be seen. The front desk reception girls are over worked and thus can come off as rude. They are also not fully educated on the procedures and timelines. As a whole the office can feel frantic due to the under staffing which leads to less personal care.

I am currently in my first cycle so I am unable to provide results. We will be using my husbands sperm which was retrieved through tese surgery and frozen. I will be taking FSH injections 150 and 150 of HMG. We will then do an egg retrieval and hopefully do a fresh transfer.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Northwell Health (FKA North Shore Long Island Jewish).
Some of my paperwork, like a pap from my obgyn was misfiled. The paperwork was later found but after many phone calls. My husbands tese results were never told to me. I have to call the doctor and office 3 times and was told he would let me know a few days later to then be told I need to speak with my husbands doctor after waiting for the results for a week.
Ask a lot of questions as he [Dr. Singer] is extremely knowledgeable but initially just goes over the more general “summary”...He explained everything patiently and thoroughly. I texted him over a weekend with a question to which he responded instantly. He is very smart and has exceptional bedside manner...is always smiling and enthusiastic but also realistic about the whole process.
All the nurses and staff [at North Shore] were kind, compassionate and helpful...All [nurses] were thorough though some felt a little inexperienced. I never felt they weren’t completely in control...The nurses lost my pap results which were sent over before I started. I was asked several times about if it was sent - to which I confirmed it was in fact sent and reviewed with the nurse - before I was asked to have it resent. A solid week. The retrieval was on a Friday morning. I was told I’d get results on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. No one returned my calls Saturday or Sunday but I did get a call on late Monday with the results.

Dr. Tomer suggested the use of Clomid to increase egg/ follicle size during my IUI cycles. Although he suggested IVF, he supported our decision to try IUI first. He provided what information he had it turns of financial information for IVF but still respected our decision to try IUI...Dr. Tomer Singer was extremely warm and friendly. Although he was very honest and realistic with his expectations and possible outcomes, it was done with empathy and compassion..
Nursing staff [at North Shore] greeted you by name during visits and responded to questions or concerns in a timely fashion. They are very friendly and made you feel comfortable when asking questions or when i called to inform of failed IUI cycle...Location and hours are extremely accessible and convenient. I was even able to reach someone during holiday hours, Christmas eve...Nursing staff assisted in locating trigger shot at a lower price since the shot was not covered by insurance.
How was your experience with Tomer Singer at Northwell Health (FKA North Shore Long Island Jewish)?
Dr. Singer was very candid when meeting with my husband and i . However, he was sympathetic and kind when addressing our situation and gave us all of our options even if success rates were low. As a man, he was able to support and reassure my husband who was reluctant to receive treatment for our infertility or even attend an appointment. He consistently reassured us and gave us support during our failed cycles.

I came in and did blood work and then used the trigger shot to ovulate. Insemination was done about 36 hours post trigger shot the first cycle and about 26 hours post trigger shot the second cycle (my recollection of the timing may be off). Unfortunately both cycles did not result in pregnancy.

Dr Singer was very kind and compassionate. He seemed very overworked and we would wait a long time in the waiting room to see him. But once it was our turn he spent a lot of time with us ...Rather than adjusting my protocol, he blamed the ivf not working on the fact my embryos are abnormal. He pushed for PGS but we never got enough embryos on day 5 for it to make sense finacially. It was very frustrating to go through 3 ivf cycles at 31-32 years old and be told over and over all my embryos are abnormal.
Dr Singers office [North Shore] in NYC is small and crowded. It’s annoying to drive to Long Island for weekend monitoring and all ivf proceedures....The nurses were fine. No complaints. They were nice, seemed frazzled most of the time and overwhemed..... The clinic itself was fine...Seemed understaffed and Dr Singer was running around from patient to patient to the point where he was literally sweating. He needed more help and probably a new set of eggs on my case.
How was your experience with Tomer Singer at Northwell Health (FKA North Shore Long Island Jewish)?
Dr Singer is a wonderful person who seems to really care about his patients. However, he thought Id be an easy case and I was far from. Rather than adjusting my protocol, he blamed the ivf not working on the fact my embryos are abnormal. He pushed for PGS but we never got enough embryos on day 5 for it to make sense finacially. It was very frustrating to go through 3 ivf cycles at 31-32 years old and be told over and over all my embryos are abnormal. When I did switch clinics, I did do PGS for the first time and 7/10 of my embryos were normal. I do not think Dr Singer was willing to look for another answer so leaving his clinic was the right choice for us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Tomer Singer at Northwell Health (FKA North Shore Long Island Jewish)?
I think this goes for any clinic and any doctor, but my advice is know when to move on. Doctor Singer was the first doctor I saw and was convinced if he did not get me pregnant, then no one could. After 3 fresh ivf cylces and 4 transfers I finally went somewhere else and did end up having a child after two ivf cycles there.

I was on very high doses of meds for my age. 300 gonal f, 300 menapur. I have no idea why that was my dose or rational behind it. I got 10 eggs, 13 eggs and 15 eggs during my 3 cycles.

I was mostly frustrated by the results of my ivf proceedures and I think Dr Singer was too. The clinic itself was fine. Certainly not the well oiled machine the way Cornell is. Seemed understaffed and Dr Singer was running around from patient to patient to the point where he was literally sweating. He needed more help and probably a new set of eggs on my case.
Tomer Singer is knowledgeable and extremely caring. I always felt like I was in good hands. He gave great advise and was sensitive to all of our concerns. He had incredible bedside manner. Could not recommend him enough!... [Eset Approach] Singer explained all the pros and cons of both. We transferred two for the first transfer and had a miscarriage. The second round we only did one transfer and it worked!
The nurses [Northwell Health] and Dr. Singer were great. I had a lot of confidence in their advise, knowledge, etc. The facility had open hours in the mornings before work and weekends out in Long Island. The provided car service to Long Island for procedures. The front of the office staff was a little flustered and disorganized.... Dr. Singer and his team were so careful and sensitive with the stresses of infertility and their treatment. They were also all very patient. I never felt like a number.

[Dr. Singer is] a nice guy, but not sure if I trust him enough to go through a cycle with him. He sounds like a car salesman more so than a doctor when he described the procedures....I waited 3 hours to see Dr. Singer. My appointment was at 10 a.m. but I didn't see him until close to 2 p.m. So NOT considerate to patients...I was very disappointed after seeing him and spoke to him during consultation.
RaChel [nurse at Northwell Health] who I had spoken with during consultation was nice, but when I called to get some bloodwork results some other nurses who answered the phone was not very nice...They were not up front about co-insurances and co-pays for genetic testing and radiological imaging tests...The wait time was way too long! I feel like they don't value patient's time. If they valued their patients time, I wouldn't have had to wait 3 hours to see Dr. Singer for a consultation on my first visit. Not to mention their front desk, no one ever answers to make an appointment or to change appointments. How frustrating!!

We had the hardest time getting medical records from this clinic. It took 6 and a half weeks to get them! Also, my thyroid level was not within normal range, they didn't call me about it. I found out after looking at medical records 6 and a half weeks later.

The [Shady Grove Fertility New York] portal is not the best system. Wish there was a better way to contact directly. The portal doesnt allow to select a provider. The messegaing system can look messy when there are alot of exchanges. There should be a option for spouse.to create own account and be linked. The strengths are that the responses are quick...Nursing staff was contacted via their portal. Responses were prompt, but seemed like there were turnovers happening as assigned nurse or coordinator changed during the process.

Dr. Singer is a great doctor, straight forward and pleasant at the same time. He worked with our situation and provided support even when the outcome wasn't what we hoped for...made sure I was always comfortable and well informed and had the support needed during the process...always available and caring...supportive and helpful during and after the treatment.
Northwell is a very welcoming environment, their offices are clean and the staff is professional while at the same time courteous. We had all our questions answered in a clear concise way, and never felt like we had to chase pertinent information. There were, however, a few times when we felt like the front desk staff and the nurses were not fully communicative with one another, and that there were some discrepancies as to what our scheduling and timetable would look like, which seemed to come from a high volume of patients.
