What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
She is great. She has a great bedside manner. She is warm but will not just tell you what you want to hear. She keeps it realistic and doesn’t try to push you into anything you don’t want to do. Bring lots of questions and be prepared to learn.

Describe the protocols Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
Even though I was a candidate for IUI, we agreed that because I was over 35, the sooner we froze my eggs with IVF, the better quality and number I would be able to obtain and thus increased my chances. After 1 failed IVF cycle and no embryos left, I took Metformin orally for 3 months before prepping for my second cycle to increase my egg quality in hopes of getting more embryos. It worked because we got 3 embryos from my second retrieval, 1 of which became our miracle baby. After my second failed FET, we opted for a mock cycle to confirm that our timing was correct before we were down to our last embryo. Other doctors don’t try a mock cycle until you’ve had 3 failed FET which in my case would have left me with my last embryo before we attempted something different. Unfortunately even though we gained information to alter the approach of my third FET, it was unsuccessful. But, our last and final FET following my natural cycle and God’s timing ended up being what worked!
Describe your experience with your nurse at IVF Florida. (Assigned nurse: I had the same nurse, Mel, at the main office location I went to.)
The entire team became family. During IVF, you have lots of appointments for consecutive days/weeks at a time, so I developed a bond with the team and they helped an otherwise difficult process a bit easier.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida.
The cost of an IVF cycle was about $20K. Luckily I started a new job just before starting and had insurance coverage so I was extremely blessed to only have copays/deductible.
Describe Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.
Dr. Weitzman and IVF Florida do not transfer more than 1 embryo at a time. At the time, I may have considered 2 but I respected the decision and understood the rationale.
Dr. Weitzman is blunt, and straight forward, but not particularly compassionate or warm. She will casually throw out phrases like "during your next IVF cycle" like it is a foregone conclusion that we will throw another$20k into her clinic. Contact with her is minimal, the process at IVF Florida is run more by nurses...We did PGS testing, which the doctor did not reccommend. Two were chromosomally abnormal and would have resulted in miscarriage, and one normal....
IVF Florida is a large practice that operates extremely efficiently, but has all the warmth of an assembly line. Each appointment is blood work, ultrasound with a nurse, followed up by a nurse uploading results to their patient portal. Contact with the doctor is very minimal. In two years there, no one has asked me how I feel, or how I am handling this process. Very impersonal. But, they have great track record, and if they get the job done, who cares if you like the nurses??

Describe the protocols Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
I did 17 days of birth control, followed by a stim cycle of gonal-F and Menopur. Trigger was HCG. Retrieval got 6 eggs (they ever told me how many to expect during ultrasound prior to retrieval). 5 fertilized. 3 made it to blastocyst. We did PGS testing, which the doctor did not reccommend. Two were chromosomally abnormal and would have resulted in miscarriage, and one normal. So potentially I would have paid $6k for an implantation that was chromosomally abnormal and would have resulted in miscarriage, and had to pay another $6k to try again. I am scheduled for implantation on 10/22. I am currently on Lupron, 10 units daily, and estrogen patches.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at IVF Florida.
Each doctor has a team of nurses, so you see that same few. They are nice, but each of them only has a partial picture. None of them oversee the whole process, or speak to you about how you are doing. You see one person for blood draw, walk to another room for ultrasound, and then you get a portal message telling you what medicine to take. Not personal at all.

A few thousand in miscellaneous tests and appointments. $12,000 for retrieval. $1,900 + $980 for PGD testing. $5,000 for implantation. $3,0000 in medication, because they called in double what I needed.
Dr. Weitzman's communication style is very compassionate. Sometimes there is a delay to get someone on the phone. However, they encourage the use of emails and respond within 2-3 hours during business hours. Although they have multiple locations, not all locations have weekend hours or perform procedures. You may have to travel to a location that is 30-45 min from your home (depending on where you live) for tests and procedures. However, the location where our ultrasounds and labs were done, opened at 7am; so it did not interfere much with work.

She [Dr. Weitzman] did not waste our time with unnecessary tests and was honest with each answer. For example when I struggled to get my trigger shot correctly, she personally called me back at 11pm to talk me through it....My doctor prefers to do single embryo transfer...She took the time to really review my file and experiences with previous doctors and procedures. She gave us the good, bad, she ugly all while keeping our best interests in the forefront.
This clinic [IVF Florida] is very busy and tends to run a bit late. However they are extremely worth the wait. They are kind and patient. They walked me through everything and had no hidden fees, or anything that came up...The nursing staff is always available to answer my emails, calls, or questions in person. They explained everything thoroughly and would walk me the process as many times as I needed.
How was your experience with Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
Dr. Weitzman knew she was my last hope. We were on the waiting list for adoption when we met Dr. Weitzman. She did not push us one way or the other but encouraged us to make the decision that we felt best with. She did not waste our time with unnecessary tests and was honest with each answer. For example when I struggled to get my trigger shot correctly, she personally called me back at 11pm to talk me through it. When she’d see me in the hallway for my monitoring appointments she always updated me and hugged me. She got how important this was and what doing IVF meant to us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
Listen to her. She knows exactly what she’s talking about. But also be prepared to make the decisions for yourself. She won’t push you to do something you’re not comfortable with.

I was on birth control pills for 19 days. 4 days prior to birth control stopping I started 20 units of Lupron each night up until I triggered. I took 225 units of menopur daily and 225 units of gonal f daily. She put me on high doses to make sure I would stimulate.

For the total package of 2 IVF cycles with medicines it is about $ 35,000
Describe Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.
My doctor prefers to do single embryo transfer. I trusts her judgement.
As a patient of Dr. Weitzman I felt very well taken care of. There was once a call to be made on my treatment (regarding the time of a trigger shot) when she was not on call. The doctor on call gave his instructions and after she reviewed it, she over-ruled them with her own instructions. She has a warm bedside manner and she is also direct...Dr. Weitzman performed a laparoscopy and came in to go over everything and give me a hug during pre-op. She is also the one to call me with the results of a treatment cycle.
the doctors [at IVF Florida] are on an on-call rotation. If the timing of the procedure can be flexible (for example, a laparoscopy in some cases) then it's possible to schedule it with your own doctor...The practice is very large and it can feel like being a number...There are a few excellent nurses. They are excellent because they are compassionate, attentive, happy to be helpful, and make an effort to remember you. However, half of the nurses, if not more than half do not have these qualities. More often than not, they seem to do just what's required of them and nothing more.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
She is very likeable and and she's a good doctor but the patient should expect that since she works in a large practice, the odds are unlikely that she will be the one performing any of the actual treatment procedures because the doctors are on an on-call rotation. If the timing of the procedure can be flexible (for example, a laparoscopy in some cases) then it's possible to schedule it with your own doctor.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
With Dr. Weitzman, I felt like a human. Dr. Weitzman performed a laparoscopy and came in to go over everything and give me a hug during pre-op. She is also the one to call me with the results of a treatment cycle.
The practice is very large and it can feel like being a number. Also, I saw several staff throughout the process so it felt like only Dr. Weitzman really knew me as an individual.
Describe the protocols Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
The strategy that stands out to me is the timing of the trigger shot. The doctor on-call who reviewed my results that day while Dr. Weitzman was away, gave his instructions for a trigger shot the following night. Dr. Weitzman also reviewed the results and called to override those instructions, saying that the trigger shot should be doe that very night. The rationale was that there were follicles that were a good size but a few that were smaller. Dr. Weitzman didn't want to compromise the mature follicles waiting for the immature ones to catch up. It turned out to be the right call in my unprofessional opinion because I ended up with 8 eggs, nearly twice as many as I had ever had. I don't remember how many fertilized but it was also the first time I was able to freeze an embryo.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at IVF Florida.

Describe your experience with IVF Florida.
Sometimes when the nurse is calling in the next patient, she'll announce whether she needs a urine sample for the entire waiting room to hear. I do not like that. I have waited a long time in that office before. It's usually not too bad but there have been a couple of times that it was a very long wait. I don't like that I'm not able to see the screen during an ultra sound. I've been to offices where there is a screen visible to the patient. Being able to see the screen makes the patient feel included in the treatment rather than in the dark (figuratively and literally).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida.
I think the costs were comparable to the other local clinics. I did not feel like I was nickle and dimed, which I have felt at other clinics.
Describe Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at IVF Florida.
The decision of how many to transfer (one or two) was definitely mine, but Dr. Weitzman strongly recommended one.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at IVF Florida.
I don't remember the exact issue but I do remember that I once received conflicting information from two different nurses. I was also told by a pharmacy that a nurse gave wrong information which resulted in me having to pay for a prescription out of pocket rather than getting it covered. It was hard to verify what really happened. It was a "he said, she said" situation, but that same nurse had failed to give me certain information in the past so I'm inclined to believe it was her mistake.
From the moment I met Dr. Weitzman she always made me feel like I was important. Over the years she has been amazing. I always felt like I had someone in my corner who truly cared. I don't think I could make it thru this process without her...After our initial consultation 7.5 years ago she gave me something I had lost...hope. She is comforting, compassionate, eternally optimistic and the perfect example of the kind of doctor you want in your corner during this process. She has given me one beautiful son and has been there in my seemingly endless journey to #2...
The [IVF Florida - Pem Pines] clinics are beautiful, welcoming and have everything on site at at least one location making not so you never have to go elsewhere for anything. So convenient! The only weakness would be the communication. Both the phone and the portal do not always get answered in a timely manner...The communication is really the biggest issue. I'm glad I am able to contact my Dr. directly whenever I have any concerns about the information I have been given or lack thereof...

The communication is really the biggest issue. I'm glad I am able to contact my Dr. directly whenever I have any concerns about the information I have been given or lack thereof.
She [Dr. Weitzman] is very cold and no bedside manners. She was the doctor who retrieved my eggs twice and I don’t recommend her. Both times my cycles failed with her. How was your experience with Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
Very cold and rude. She was so unprofessional, bragging about her weekend to a nurse right on front of me. I had her retrieve my eggs two separate times and both retrievals were horrible. Both retrievals were so bad I had to recover for two weeks after her and we yielded no embryos. I had two other retrievals done by another doctor, Dr. Christy and I was back to normal after a few days and both times we had embryos. I begged my doctor not to have her do my egg retrieval, but that was unavailable.

We immediately felt a connection with Dr Weitzman when we met her. She is very warm and an extremely good communicator. She takes her time and never makes you feel rushed. She understands how time sensitive the procedures are and squeezed us in so we could make sure and not miss a cycle. Can not speak highly enough about her - she is the best...She remembered details of our personal situation and always treated us kindly and respectfully...Do a lot of research on the PGS before getting to that option. Unfortunately that is the one area she was unable to provide much guidance since it is elective.
IVF Florida and Weitzman only do eSET. We did not have the option to transfer two. However, we got pregnant on the first embryo transfer so I’m glad we didn’t!...is a large practice so you can feel like a number at times given the traffic and amount of people in waiting room. The wait times are petty significant too. However, the expertise of the doctor and nursing staff, wkd hours make up for it...Jackie and the rest of the nursing staff was great...they kept the appointments moving and very rarely got so backed up did you waste your whole morning.

I absolutely loved dr.weitzman... except I only saw her twice-once on my first visit and the second at the review of all my diagnostic tests... Every other visit was with random nurses-never the same and rarely kind.
On 2 different occasions [at IVF Florida] I was doing fertility drugs with timed intercourse and I received a message that they have scheduled me for my IUI the next morning at 8am. I wasn't getting an IUI! I would call back minutes later but it was always impossible to get through because they only do their calls right before they close so if you miss it you get their after hours recording...Waited FOREVER at every appointment, most of the staff isn't very kind and you will very much feel like a number here.

Dr. Weitzman is fantastic at office visits, but I wish I would have received a call when she selected to trigger. I actually only spoke to nurses during the IVF process except when I called. She did call me immediately and to speak once my cycle failed....She is excellent at our consultations and answers all questions. She is conservative and cautious as she gains data. She wants a healthy baby and mommy at they end... Nurses do lots of the tracking during IVF and to IUIs.
Billing department [at IVF Florida] is difficult to get ahold of. They told me to take an inject subq when it should have been IM. They apologized immediately. Having different nurses made the process uneasy....IVF 12.243 plus preservation , storage, anesthesia, ocp start IUI about 2,000...I just wish the practice is setup different. Nurses do lots of the tracking during IVF and to IUIs...Most of the girls [nurses] are excellent, but there is 1 that isn't enthusiastic. Despite their enthusiasm I wish I had one nurse from start to finish.

She is excellent at our consultations and answers all questions. She is conservative and cautious as she gains data. She wants a healthy baby and mommy at they end. I just wish the practice is setup different. Nurses do lots of the tracking during IVF and to IUIs.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
Dr. Weitzman is fantastic at office visits, but I wish I would have received a call when she selected to trigger. I actually only spoke to nurses during the IVF process except when I called. She did call me immediately and to speak once my cycle failed.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at IVF Florida.
Most of the girls are excellent, but there is 1 that isn't enthusiastic. Despite their enthusiasm I wish I had one nurse from start to finish. I interacted with several during IVF.

Billing department is difficult to get ahold of. They told me to take an inject subq when it should have been IM. They apologized immediately. Having different nurses made the process uneasy.
Dr. Weitzman seems like she just has a job. It's routine for her...I can't think of one strength for this clinic [IVF Florida]. Unfortunately, when you don't know where to go and you google search in Florida this is the clinic that pops up because it's so big and they have so many centers. Bigger is not always better and if you are looking for specific care and a relationship with your RE this probably wouldn't be the best clinic to choose.
I never saw my doctor [Dr Vanessa Weitzman] except for our consult everything else was done by nurses. On my second day of my IUI procedure, the nurse [at IVF Florida] said "I think I got it in" it's just a huge disappointment when you lose trust in your clinic and you are literally a number.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
IVF Florida is like a factory, they scream your name out in front of a room full of men and women. It's cold, not organized and you get the feeling no one really cares.
Describe the protocols Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at IVF Florida and their degree of success.
It's very cookie cutter of a protocol they love to just cycle women at this clinic. There was no real plan for us here just to keep paying and cycling.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at IVF Florida.
You never knew who you were talking to, they would call me and it was for another patient. Very disorganized and confusing.

She [Dr. Weitzman] was OK, didn't get a baby so can't rate her that high. She didn't do any of the egg transfers, we didn't talk to her that much either. She was just OK, going thru the typical routine. Don't know how high of a recommendation she would get because we didn't take home a aby even though we know it's not entirely her fault.... Remember they don't guarantee anything.... Always busy, never on time, always an all day event.
Always busy, never on time, always an all day event. It's clean and they [IVF Florida] have the best equipment. It's pretty much the only place in our area and convienently near our house. I would recommend them because frankly there is no one around.... [Cost Of Treatment] 24 thousand. We paid cash... Remember they don't guarantee anything.... Weitzman did speak in a caring manner and took the time to answer the questions that my husband and I had. She also ordered a range of tests rather than going off of bloodwork from a previous clinic, which I appreciate...Despite my young age, she was not willing to allow me try IVF using my own eggs. This made me feel like I was a statistic that could hurt their facility number and therefore wasn't worth trying with
This clinic was well organized and was able to schedule an appointment for us quickly. The [IVF Florida] staff and everyone at the clinic was respectful and nice...The ultrasound was $1,000 and not covered by insurance...The nurses were very sweet and took the time to reassure me, make sure I was comfortable during testing, etc.

Weitzman did speak in a caring manner and took the time to answer the questions that my husband and I had. She also ordered a range of tests rather than going off of bloodwork from a previous clinic, which I appreciate. I have, however, heard from other clinics that they can try ivf with my own eggs. This makes me think that Dr. Weitzman either did not want to attempt it because low success rates hurt her numbers or she does not have adequate experience or research in relation to my diagnosis.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vanessa Weitzman (OB/GYN) at IVF Florida?
If you are diagnosed with POF or DOR, go in expecting to be given the "donor egg" speech.
