Dr. Burns always made sure to take his time to carefully explain what he was going to do at that appointment...he would explain his findings and next steps...made himself available to us 24/7...was ready to change my medications and do a diagnostic procedure if that cycle wasn’t successful, but I ended up pregnant and it was unnecessary
[Dr. Cabell Huntington Hospital] all around great and efficient...They are supportive and willing to work with you to get you the best care possible...were all polite and professional...would do their best to answer them accurately and in a way I could understand...never felt like I was being inconvenient or annoying them, even when I was seen outside of regular office hours

Dr. Burns is amazing. We worked with another fertility doctor for almost 2 years. She would pop into the room after making us wait for hours sometimes, speak maybe 3 sentences, stay for no longer than 5 minutes, and leave. We never really understood what the plan was with her. We switched to Dr.Burns and he was always attentive and made sure to explain everything in detail. He took time at each appointment to talk with us and answer any questions we had. We worked with him for 4 months before we got pregnant.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of William Burns at Cabell Huntington Hospital?
Relax and trust him. Infertility is hard and scary but you definitely have an ally with Dr. Burns

Dr. Burns always made sure to take his time to carefully explain what he was going to do at that appointment and afterwards he would explain his findings and next steps. He made himself available to us 24/7. After a particularly devastating appointment, he called unprompted to check on us. He told me to call him as soon as I received a positive ovulation test and that he would see us the day after that test. I received a positive test on Saturday and figured he would wait and see us on Monday. He had us come in on Sunday morning to run the test he needed to run.

I don’t remember the exact dosing but I was treated with letrozole and metformin. At my last appointment, he was ready to change my medications and do a diagnostic procedure if that cycle wasn’t successful, but I ended up pregnant and it was unnecessary.

They were all polite and professional.

It’s an all around great and efficient clinic. You can tell that they really care about your treatment and success. They are supportive and willing to work with you to get you the best care possible. If I had any questions they would do their best to answer them accurately and in a way I could understand. I never felt like I was being inconvenient or annoying them, even when I was seen outside of regular office hours.

We did 2-3 IUIs that were not successful [with Dr. William Burns], as our issue is male factor only. We did IVF with ICSI and we're successful with our fresh transfer of 2 embryos. We had a singleton pregnancy and she's 2 years old now. We transferred the last frozen embryo 2019 and it didn't take. Dr Burns said we could have a good chance with another egg retrieval before I turn 40...He always tried to get to know me and ask questions about me. He also genuinely listens and shows he cares.
They always worked around my work schedule [at Cabell Huntington Hospital] to help me out...Between 10,000 and 15,000 for IVF, 400 for each IUI...I loved the embryologist and the clinic. They are available 24/7 and we're always prompt to answer questions and always treated me well both in the clinic and on the phone. I felt that the hospital was very attentive during IVF procedures. I did not love the billing process, as all of it was out of pocket and expected up front. There were some billing hiccups, but they were resolved quickly.

He was amazing and compassionate. He was very thorough and meticulous through every procedure. He spent hours teaching me how to do my injections. He donates his time and places effort in to assuring every thing goes exactly as planned.

He is quirky, but that's part of why he is so good at what he does.

Dr. Burns is incredibly generous with his time. His concern with the science of IVF sometimes meant that his explanations were a little hard to understand for a layperson. But he made himself available whenever we needed him, including after hours.... He started out with a conservative approach but was receptive to our desire to speed things up. He also monitored progress and adjusted medication levels as needed. And he used HGH for the IVF cycle.
Strengths [for Cabell Huntington Hospital] are personal attention and compassion from the entire team all the way down the line: Dr. Burns, clinic nurse, IVF lab tech, and IVF nurse. Weaknesses are that this is still a regional lab with one doctor instead of several different specialists. Start here but be thinking about going outside the area if you have a complicated case.

Just listen. Sometimes he talks about a lot of topics and u need to pay attention. He is great to stop and explain but u must ask.

We did a frozen transfer with him. He used no drugs which is completely different from other clinics. He did ultrasounds to track the uterus thickness and I took progesterone but that was a vastly different approach from the other clinic. He used Mother Nature and timing and it worked. I have a 2 year old daughter. He used a specific ovulation kit. He was very specific in all tests and requirements

The embryologist was named Lay I believe. I still have her card. She ultimately made everything possible. Mindy LLOYD was also thourough and easy to talk with. His staff is esstial to the great quality care that you receive. Not many doctors or nurses seen on a Sunday morning.

The clinic is pretty normal. Smaller than some places but so courteous. We had a bad experience prior so they were a breath of fresh air. I only dealt with one dr one nurse and one embryologist so it was very personal which I liked. They got to know me which made the whole process easier. His success rates are the same or better than other clinics. I have a friend now that underwent Ivf and is currently pregnant

Dr. Burns cost were dramatically cheaper with the frozen transfers. Especially all the extra work that was done at no cost to me. His ivf cycle was comparable to the other clinic

This is a great first place to start and for mild cases of infertility he would be the perfect doctor. I would’ve loved to have stayed with him. He was to the point but sometimes a little over my head but I was okay with that because it made me trust in his knowledge.

We had been trying to conceive for 18 months and as far as my gynecologist knew I wasn’t infertile. We suspected it was my husband and doctor burns knew just what tests to run. Even though my husband’s results showed that we would most likely need IVF he was ok with trying a regular IUI and an IUI with clomid so we would know for sure. I didn’t want to continue to go through the disappointment and expenses of tests that had poor chances and we couldn’t afford IVf at the time so we put our dreams of starting a family on hold and he said he would be there when we were ready and able and help us in any ways he could.

He works closely with his nurses, they are but an extension of him with much compassion. They know everything about you and seem well organized.

The clinic is on the same floor as the OB offices in the hospital and it’s in a big open room. Once you get back into the exam room if feels more comfortable but in my opinion this is where it lacks. I can’t remember any of the dosage. I did start out with birth control. I do remember some names (Lupron, gonal-f) The important thing was having a good healthy egg supply to retrieve.

The staff was always super friendly and quick to check patients in. Honestly the only thing I didn’t really like was, the clinic isn’t just a “fertility clinic” it’s a big OBGYN office and multiple doctors so there’s lots of patients, (including pregnant) It’s a little discouraging when someone struggling with infertility and wants to be pregnant more than anything is sitting in a waiting room full of pregnant women. If they had a separate waiting room just for “fertility patients” that would be really nice!

He usually transferred 2 (depending on quality) for my transfer the embryos weren’t great so we went with 3 and only 1 stuck.

He [Dr. Burns] was very kind to us. Very thorough... He was very good at answering our questions . He made us feel like he was always available to help us. I was always allowed to call 7 days a week. It was nice to have a doctor that was always there for you.... We tried fermara and i had depression as a side effect so we switched to clomid. Then he used the unltrasound to see if i was ovulating.
It was a great facility [Cabell Huntington Hospital] . Everyone was very helpful and they always helped in any way possible. They were always nice and clear about what i needed to do. [Dr. William Burns] helped all he could while we was in the office. He took his time and even called on the weekends to check in on you. He was available 24hrs a day 7 days a week. He even called in favors to help cover the cost of the treatments... He is not just an excellent doctor he is also an excellent man...answered all mine and my boyfriends questions...went through everything about how IVF is and how it works. He was all about us having a baby and being happy.

the cost we came across was over 3000 to the Dr before any treatments could start and almost 7000 to the hospital. Due to the 7000 all upfront we was forced to put our dreams of having a baby on hold.

He took a considerable amount of time to go over our history and understand our difficulties conceiving our second child. We haven’t started any procedure because we are working to get the money together...They only transfer embryos ever other month.

Clinic and doctor are two different Things. We haven’t stared anything yet so I have nothing to write about except that parking is free and that’s helpful. We got lost in the hospital and a nurse helped us find the clinic.
